How do you pals store your cards for play? What boxes do you recommend?

Looking at this one btw
>>
Those deck boxes are pretty alright for the price. They won't flop open on you and will hold a double sleeved commander deck with a tiny bit of room to spare. They do the job.
>>
>>46491500
I recommend making one out of duck tape and cardboard (mainly the stuff cereal boxes are made out of). Cheaper, more durable, and easier to color code decks.
>>
>>46491522
Would you use them, or do you suggest something else?

I just need a bunch of different deck boxes for a reasonable price. I'm needing storage as I have a lot of latent cards sitting around now.

Those work, but they will eventually break if you use them often. Stiff lastic hinges aren't exactly a great design.

For your favorite deck, I'd recommend one of these. I've had one for years, and it's not only tough, it feels and looks nice.
>>
I'm more of a Monolith/Satin Tower sort of person, those things are solid as a rock, don't depend on magnets or plastic flaps to lock closed, and are a perfect self-contained way to carry cards and dice/counters. They all hold over 100 double-sleeved cards too, though I don't like to push it past 105-6.

I've a growing interest in some of the multi-deck Ultimate Guard boxes though, since I like the soft interior and they use better magnets than most Ultra Pro.
>>
>>46491697
For reference, I have 1-2 EDH decks and my main focus is single sleeve, 75 card modern decks.

What size should I aim for in this case.

You might actually just want a Fat Pack box.

I keep 2 EDH and 2 60 card decks in one, alongside all of my rares (probably about 200 or so). They're unsleaved, but you can easily fit sleaved cards in there.
>>
>>46491853
I think that's more oriented for storage though. I just need two small boxes which hold one deck each, preferably not over 15 bucks.
>>
The UltraPro Pro-Deck box works well for EDH decks but it will have way too much wiggle room for Standard/Modern decks. If you want to carry multiple Modern/Standard decks around then go for the UltraPro Pro-Dual deck box. It will hold two 75 card decks in one container.

Comparable to the UltraPro is the Ultimate Guard Deck Case 100+ and the Twin Deck Case 160+. The Twin Deck Case does not use velcro for closure so it holds up better in hot/humid environments.

>>46491853
If you use a fat pack box, please please please, remove the inner frame insert inside the lid. Your cardboard will thank you for it.
>>
>>46491500
I just kinda threw them into the storage room around a decade ago. Suppose they might be on its floor or elsewhere now considering all the moving that room has seen.
>>
>>46491636
Yeah, but the cost difference between these and the Ultra-prod boxes (especially if you're using them for card-based board-games instead of something like MtG) can really rack-up over time.

What about card sleeves? Are those a meme or legitimate concern?

If they aren't a meme, what quantity should I grab, per deck, and which brand?
>>
>>46492889

You want matte sleeves. They slide better, show less wear, and they make it harder to detect your chinaman proxies.

For FNM/Casual go with UltraPro Matte sleeves. For Competitive/PQs go with KMC HyperMatte. KMC holds up better to abuse and one has to purposely try to cause them to split. UltraPro will do well enough but if you shuffle wrong even once some of the sleeves will split.

If you are a nut, you want to double sleeve everything. Even that Pauper deck. In seriousness, for Modern you should really consider double sleeves so the cards better retain their exaggerated values. Go with KMC Perfect Fits. Nothing else is on par to them, though expect to pay just as much or more for the PFs as you do sleeves.
>>
>>46492889
If your cards are worth anything, even just sentimental value, sleeve 'em.
>>
>>46493080
how do you fold sleeved cards? I'd assume you can't really use the waterfall technique, but, what do you guys use? Mechanical card shufflers?
>>
>>46493080
>>46493104
I'm pretty casual but I play every week or so.
>>
>>46492889
It never ceases to amaze me that people don't sleeve their cards. Like, you spent money on these cards, even if they are valuable and you pulled them so you rationalize them as the cost of a pack, don't you want to keep your things nice and undamaged?

Like, it isn't even a nerd thing. It's just a human thing to keep your objects nice.
>>
>>46493143
pile shuffling or just weaving the cards works too, using a slight riffling method
>>
>>46491583
Yeah I'd recommend them. I've been using em since I started EDH and I still use a few today. Especially good choice if you are looking to buy a bunch on the cheap.
>>
>>46493175
Literally the same line of reasons as "common sense is common" you'd be shocked at the fact that the majority of people don't think the way you do and merely expect things to be super durable even when made out of paper. Just like you'd expect something like common sense to be common simply because its easy for you to see whereas for a surprising majority it simply doesn't exist.

>>
I really like the magnetic deck boxes. I hate velcro because it always falls apart or can melt from heat.

I wish they had one with the new wastes mana symbol. Then I could put my Eldrazi colorless commander deck in it. For now I have that deck in the planeswalker symbol one, but that tickles my autism for how many ways to sunday it doesn't match flavor wise.
>>
>>46494405
This Anon knows the truth. I picked one up in early 2008 and to this day it still works great. Some of the paint has flecked off the bottom but it works amazingly.

>>46493080
I wouldn't recommend ultra pros for anything more than a 1-time use draft deck. They're too vulnerable to splitting and scuff super easily. KMC hyper mattes are great but a bit expensive for the once-a-week gamer. FFG and Legion sleeves are a good middle ground assuming you're not going any higher than a PPTQ or something.

>>46493143
It's not hard to riffle sleeved cards. And automated card shufflers are illegal.

>Deck boxes
>not mentioning legion

Legion deck boxes are perfect. They use high quality Velcro to keep them closed, so they never open, and it's almost like they made them PERFECT for fully sleeved EDH decks. You get a good amount of space with a 75 card or 60 card deck, but you get a free spacer to seperates side board from your main board, and not to mention there is 0 space between the box and the cards. It's like they designed them to be a perfect fir for an 100 card sleeved EDH, I'm telling you. They're also stylish. They look good, they're neat, and they fit well inside of most deck containers. Legion master race for deck boxes, for sure.

I also agree that ultra pro Mattel sleeves are good enough, they're really fine, and if you sleeve a good deck they'll work great. The only time I'd spend more money on sleeves, like KMC perfect fits, if I had a very high quality, top tier deck. I run Kaalai of the vast right now, and that's a $500 deck. I use ultra pros on it because again, they're just fine.

Look at these though, they're great.
>>
>>46493175
Cards are meant to be played with and I will continue to treat them as mere cards, not an investment. Sleeves are nice for using them outdoors and for easier shuffling but I don't really see any other use for them. You shouldn't be playing on a surface that would damage them anyways.

I use pic related. By far the best deckbox I've ever had even if the 'Boxli' has long since worn off.

velcro holds it shut nicely, and comes with a nice plastic divider too which I use to separate main/sideboard.

Shame I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them anymore

I got 2 tin Deck Vaults with fancy art on them that I put my favorite decks in. A couple of plastic cheapies like your pic for other decks. u got a point there. i own several of these and man they are cheap...quality speaking here.

what i was wondering is: is there an aesthetically/quality wise appropriate commercial way to store some hundreds of cards in something like this? does it even exist?
>>
>>46499305
Yeah sure Legion master race, everything is fine until you go and put the deck box near something that could scratch it and suddenly that neat artwork totally rips apart leaving a huge white scar on the deckbox.

Pair that up with constant usage and storage and you are left with a white deckbox in 2 months.

Or just put top loaders with EDH generals/plastic deck boxes on the ends. That way, you can put the bottom of the box inside the lid to save space without it falling in and getting stuck.

i have six of these, and one of the 2-deck boxes. these boxes are amazing - very durable, can easily hold a 100 card deck (sometimes with your commander in a hard plastic sleeve) and they look and feel amazing.

biggest downside is the cost, which hits around the $10 - $15 range, depending on where you buy it.
