What do you guys think the unbannings are going to do? Will Eldrazi still be a decent decl, is anyone trying it?
Will control finally be able to compete? What do you guys think?
>>
>>46483413
one of the two bigass things it does is drag tezzerator into modern with a vengeance, which if it goes how i think it might go since it got the engine it needed, it might be the thing that pimpslaps affinity around all day every day.
the other thing its gonna do is make U/x control decks viable again with a legitimate draw engine for once from AV.
>>
>>46483499
AV is bad. I'd love for my opponent to play that garbage
>>
>>46483499
Why does tezzerator pimp slap affinity,
>>
>>46483413
Control has been competing since tron became a thing in modern.
>>
>>46483577
because it would be setup for tezzerator to be the grind machine that would flatten both it and infect.
>>
>>46483566
I don't know man, it gives control a serious turn 1 play. Before it had that all it could do was hold up spell snare or bolt or path, but a turn 1 visions is seriously where you want to be
>>
>>46483413
I think Eldrazi will drop to T2
AV won't do much
Esper Tokens will be a thing, now that SotM is freed

to be fair to the memedern players anon, their shitty meme format got slightly less fucked when they finally threw control elements into the game, watch it dominate hilariously and all of them just cry.

>>46483622
Is all that better than stony silence or hurkyls recall or any of the other stuff already was. Chalice for 0 is sweet, engineered explosives is decent, but still, I don't know if it's going to be the best against affinity

Sorry
>>
>>46484112
Personally I don't like it as much in a control shell. I feel if you're going to run 5 to 8 artifacts, you should at least put them to good use in your build. I don't know, maybe it will be amazing, but my little brother just jammed it in his urw she'll and I wasnt impressed. I think it shines in a tezzerator build. I can't say I've fucked around with it too much, the build, but I'm going with an artifact heavier build, with counters rather than Liliana and discard. My list main boards 4 chalices, and due to this I cant run discard profitably. I haven't run the Liliana build yet, but between 3 spellskites, 4 chalices, kill spells, counters, and then the combo, I have not had too hard a time dealing with aggro or burn. Chalice for 1 on the play is just too ducking good, I don't think I have lost 1 time to any aggro deck where I got off a chalice for 1, even on the draw. (Except affinity of course) And the combo comes together fast, and it haseems plenty of time to do it. I really prefer an artifact heavier Tezzerator build, it's performed so well for me. But Lili Bridge builds could be even better, I don't know.
>>
>>46484201
Eldrazi knew this was coming, only people shitposting about eye are Tron players

>>46483413
I am a legacy player and haven't played anything other than legacy since coldsnap. I am thinking that now with the new bans I may give modern a go? What do you think of the meta, is a rock paper scissors type format or is it 1 or 2 decks dominating all the time?
>>
>>46484336
go build tezzerator, drag it into modern, win hard.
you know you want too.
>>
>>46484336
You either play aggro, or you play jund or junk and shot on everything that's not aggro, but have a 44% win rate against the aggro, or you play tron and shit on jund/junk but get absolutely fucked by aggro.

Or you play fairies cause you're a weeb
>>
>>46483499
I was watching LSV play a modern tezzerator brew on stream the another night. He got a volunteer to do a freeform match with him since the unbans haven't happened yet and did very well against abzan company. Grossest moment was dropping to 1 life then using tezz ult to drain for 12 and win next turn

Discussion in chat was talking about how sword + foundry goes infinite with grand architect and krark-clan ironworks.

The deck can also side out foundry & sword for needles/torpor orbs/bridges and play the prison game

Eldrazi is still going to be decent, but it can no longer shit out 4 Mimics t1 into a Thought-Knot t2 or a Spirit Guide/Smasher/Win t2. Strong deck, but not a broken deck. Control will never be good, because drawing 3 cards t5 is good SUPPORT for control, but not actually a way to build control in itself. The chief issue with control right now is that there's no way to stop them topdecking exactly what they need to win. I can see someone throwing Vision in an already-existing Lantern control shell to be cast after the t1 lantern and t2 bridge, but beyond that? No.

On the other hand, I am predicting a hybrid Affinity/Thopters deck, possibly including Bone Saw. Mark my words, Bone Saw will be good. I'm currently brewing a grindy UR artifacts in standard - Thraben Gargoyle, Hedron Crawler, Ghirapur Aether Grid, Thopter Spy Network, and Pia and Kiran Nalaar. Being able to shit out a bunch of cheap equipment that you can just chuck on a creature if you have spare mana to swing harder is nice.

Nice thopter combo, would be a shame if someone were to..... shit it up
>>
>>46484633
You're aware that the combo doesn't make a million tokens at once right? You make like 2-3 per turn depending on what else you are doing. Moonlight would not be very good against thopter sword unless that kark clan infinite is in play, and even then all you do is answer it for one turn.
>>
>>46484577
Nobody is going to break that though. If you want dorks run dorks.
>>
>>46484667
If you sack Sword and don't get a token from it the sword doesn't come back.
>>
>>46484667
You're aware that everyone is already running a bunch of artifact hate in the side
>>
>>46484447

>the ride never ends
>>
>>46484633
Huh. That soft counters aethervial correct? They have to choose to not use the ability they just put on the stack.

Could see play in a tempo build of both merfolk and thopter sword grow in popularity.
>>
>>46484706
ah yeah i guess that's true. You can still sack like literally any other artifact tho but I could see that working vs a deck that only has the foundry + sword. Against something like Tezzerator with a bunch of artifacts that wouldn't work.
>>
>>46484336
>>46484363
The format can't possibly be that limited (no pun intended). Surely there are some fringe decks.
>>
>>46484762
Many. People here are just asshats.Google will serve you better than this place
>>
>>46484762
There are fringe decks but they can't beat Jund or Junk and they probably won't be as fast as the premier aggro of the month. If you want a good fun deck I'd recommend creature toolbox, that's always been fun for me.

>>46485197
nah m8, your deck died between eye going to hell and the rise of affinity/infect, my bet is you guys are gonna also eat complete shit to U/x control decks as well because drawgo will return with a vengeance.
>>
>>46485197
Just stick in Academy Ruins, Breeding Pool and Mindslaver and inevitability's back.
>>
>>46485246
It's not that the deck sucks, it's more that drawing a scrying or map after the critical turn feels pretty bad since they can no longer fetch out more wincons (by grabbing the eye). A major source of card advantage has been lost.
>>
>>46485229
Hopefully the mana efficiency of Ancestral Vision will alleviate that. One of the problems with traditional Teachings decks was that Teachings doesn't help you hit the land drops you need to actual utilize it well, and it takes away deck space from cards like Think Twice. With AV, though, you can draw a ton of spare cards for little mana, then use Teachings to get bullets.
>>
>>46485257
Counterspells will fuck my shit up but surprisingly, tron isn't a bye for either infection or affinity.
>>
>>46485354

Only 20 spells and no spell pierce? that's a 33% chance to flip delver, with no protection, and not a lot for stormchaser. Also 4 helixes is a lot mainboard and are clunky with snapcaster at a low land count.

>>46486896
idk man you need what 4 cards, 3 of which have to remain in play for the duration. Actually it would be like 5 or 6 cards since you need something to do with the mana too.

>>
>>46487294
Depends on the list you're running, personally I'm splashing green for golgari charms and decays out of the board. Also I run skites and plenty of kill spells for scooze, so I could see the matchup being pretty reasonable
>>
>>46487355
I absolutely love Tezzerator, so I don't care.

The shitty part is that the unbans has caused all the cards I'm missing to spike between +100% to 3000% overnight (Thopter foundry, sword, tezzeret).
>>
>>46487355
I disagree. I think the tho per sword combo is better than both those cards
>>
>>46487408
It's only like 300 bucks for a player of all 3 at the moment, and sword is probably best not as a 4 of. Also the prices will drop shortly, at least a bit, and you'll probably be able to pick all of it up for around 150, don't quote me on that though.
>>
>>46485700
1. Only 52 cards main.
2. How has 2 Celestial colonnade working for you? having 2 cipt lands doesn't seem right with an aggressive deck like this. Also, getting to six lands doesn't seem realistic in a 20 land deck.
3. 3 Electrolyze is alot. What is your meta like? Delver decks should generally be as low to the ground as possible. If your looking for that kind effect, Forked bolt might be better for you.
>>
Reminder that mono green eldrazi tron is the future of tron decks. Why play an inferior version of tron that loses to control and midrange when you can play a version of tron with better matchups against control and midrange?
>>
>>46487408
I can't believe how much sword and Foundry have spiked. I picked up sets of both months back because I needed one of each for an edh deck and it was cheaper to buy them bulk. Definitely going to dig those up and sell them off.

I think I see my mistake in reading the card now. I was interpreting "you" to refer to each player individually, instead of just referring to the person who cast the council's judgment..
>>
>>46488837
Usually cast this when you don't control nonland permanents, so the only target is theirs. If you control a creature and they control a creature, you target theirs, they target yours, and both creatures die.
>>
>>46488837
Both players vote on a permanent the player who cast council's judgment doesn't control. That means both players usually select the same card or else the player who didn't cast it is just getting more value. It's a pretty sweet card either way

Ultimately it depends on your meta. Electrolyze has the potential to be a 3 for one while Think Twice will only ever be a 2 for 1 in terms of CA. Electrolyze also affects the board whereas Think Twice does not.
>>
>>46489436
Does illness in the ranks see any play against any other deck? I mean maybe against pyromancers, but still idk if a card that's so single minded will see play in boards, I definitely think if Thopter Sword gits gud we'll just see an added number of artifact hate. >>
>>46489624
>And another thing, sideboard cards do win games, but it hasn't stopped affinity from being tier 1.
It hasn't stopped affinity because:
1. They have to draw their sideboard card.
2. They have to draw it before they die.
3. They have to draw it and have a hand capable of closing the game before Affinity can reassemble their board.

Thopter+sword lacks the speed to close games before the opponent can draw their hate, but they have counterspells, so who knows?

That said, I do hope thopter+sword goes somewhere.

Is thopter sword going to be a combo that you can just jam in every blue deck? It's twin all over again. Except without the instant game over.

Now that you've added a bunch of artifacts and Lingering Souls 4 Snappy is a no-go anon. Even more than usual in Esper.

That makes all the difference. Thopter/Sword is an engine that generates value, but it doesn't instantly lose you the game if you can't respond to it on turn 4. It doesn't give the person on the play an insane advantage.

>>
>>46490373
I don't think you can just jam ThopterSword into a deck - it's not Stoneforge + Batterskull. The cards suck balls on their own and generally are awful if you draw multiples. With each piece of the combo you cast you essentially are wasting a turn doing nothing, which isn't exactly something you want to be doing unless the payoff is more consistent. I think the lack of early plays (Mana Leak or Remand) are offset by the Spell Snares, which can be savage and buy you time. But a sufficiently average aggressive draw I think can shut you down as you have few early answers (basically Path to Exile). There is sufficient dig with Esper Charm and I don't know if the deck needs Sphinx's Revelation.

Ultimately I think your deck looks fine. It's a standard control deck with the manlands and the combo as the finisher. I'm of the opinion that any control deck (consisting of some combination of draw, answers, and inevitability) is playable in Modern with any combination of colors. Yours looks fine.

>Using real cards in an unsanctioned format
Why?

Even if your store holds tournaments just let the proxies flow. Have the store owner charge $10 admission to offset the fact nobody is buying cards.

If the format is sanctioned I can somewhat respect the integrity of wanting to earn Planeswalker Points and legitimate serious prizes like PTQ invites by forcing the use of real cards, but it's fucking EDH.

I have 6 copies of fake Crucibles just sitting around. They cost about a dollar a piece. There's nothing wrong with players being faggots, but it's Wizards' fault prices are like this - it's their job to regulate the marketand they're doing a shit job of it.

Because proxies, while a solution to card availability, do not ultimately solve the problem of getting a format to fire.

The real problem isn't card availability; the problem is that Magic players are fucking lazy. They're so fucking lazy that they can't fire up their Google, find fucking proxies for sale, buy them, and make a deck. Someone else has to fucking take the plunge, spend some money to fucking show everyone that they are prepared to play even though they don't have anybody to play with. And even then players might not be motivated to get the cards. And even then that's an issue because Magic players are fucking so poor that they can't just drop $50 on a fully proxied Legacy deck.

That's the fucking number one problem. Nobody wants to commit. It's the same reason why drafts don't happen - because it's impossible to find 7 people who can commit time or make the efficient purchases to get a box at a discount - two boxes equal three drafts without prizes.

It's never been about prices, Wizards, the store, pros, marketing or any billion other excuses Magic players use to bitch about the state of the game. The core problem, the bedrock problem, is that most of us are lazy motherfuckers - so lazy that nobody can find 7 solid individuals who can commit to drafting once or twice a month or getting together and play Legacy. Any can you blame these people? They probably never played sports or participated in clubs or had regular clubs or exercised on some sort of schedule as kids.
>>
>>46491432
Depends on meta, very good against delver, bug, and creature decks in general. c:. Worst match up is literally any faithless looting deck.
>>
>>46491496
>$50 on a fully proxied Legacy deck

A single set of proxy duals is $100 by itself. Not even counting that literally every modern border proxy is completely unusable.

>It's the same reason why drafts don't happen

Drafts happen literally every Friday night, at least, at literally every sanctioned store.
>>
>>46491496

We are all 19 and have minimum wage jobs we just really don't like the idea of standard or buying boosters (or drafting). I hope your drafting needs get fixed one day anon c:

Why do people say 8Rack is a bad deck?
It auto wins against control and combo and is very hard to deal with for other decks due to bridge and pack rat

Sure, Leyline gives it some issues but that barely sees any play and it fucks burn quite a bit too. It's not hard to splash white or green for permanent removal either.

All I know is it produces mass amounts of salt and rage quits

>What do you guys think the unbannings are going to do?
Make people attempt to play Ux/x control decks again. Delver will come back. Tezzerator will be played more prominently. Time Sieve combo may return. Lantern has an additional win-con maybe? I don't play Lantern so a more adept Lantern pilot could tell you. Cards like Torpor Orb, Tainted Remedy, Stony Silence, Ricochet Trap are now relevant sideboard hate cards. Chalice of the Void on 0 is good still.

>Will Eldrazi still be a decent decl, is anyone trying it?
Sure but less people will play it since it's not brokenly fast anymore. I'm ok with a turn 2 Thought Knot Seer taking a card. I wasn't happy with a TKS taking a card and eating 8-12 damage from 2-3 Mimics.
>Will control finally be able to compete?

People say 8 rack is a bad deck because it is. Yeah you can steal games with a bridge and yeah your matchup is good against combo, but combo isn't big right now, and a good amount of the time you can't beat aggro without a bridge. If you like praying to the Lord that you draw a bridge with zero deck manipulation then yeah, go for it.

They're a little bit of both, but it's mostly that modern doesn't really favor "fair" decks. Lets say you run a zoo deck, the most fair deck in modern, and start with a Kird Ape, followed by two burning tree emissaries and a scavenging ooze. Seems a bit unfair, but compared to the degenerative nature of the format that's a pretty fair boardstate.

Another example is Bant. It's a fair deck, but every creature is a meta creature that costs 50$. You've got your classic turn 1 mana dork (noble heirarch), the best 2drops in the format (tarmogoyf, voice of resurgence), and the best 3drops in the format (geist of st taft, reliquary knight, loxodon). To top it off, the deck may contain a combo to win the game on the spot (knight+corralhelm).
It has a similar gameplan to your deck but all the creatures are insanely good, it has a combo, and it's still seen as a tier 2 deck.

No it wasn't me, but the sad thing is I kind of got excited for a second cause I thought someone was interested in my deck list and I always enjoy having actual discussions about magic rather than the autistic babble that usually goes on in these threads. It's kind of dad really, for 1 second I smiled, thinking "hey, maybe I can show this guy an interesting deck and my experiences with it" and he'll throw some ideas at me, and together we can walk away from the experience more knowledgeable and a little bit satisfied that 2 people from different corners of the world can come together and take some time to work out some cool combos and synergy and strategies. But instead it was just some retard trying to make me look like I was samefagging. So I'm gonna take my name off, I don't know why it triggered him so deeply. I run a 4 foundry 3 sword split and it's been working for me. Discarding it to thirst for knowledge or just having a backup isnt bad, and tezz digs so fast all in all I just like to have that combo as once assembled, and you untapped the games pretty much yours against any deck that can't answer it.

Thanks. I really fucked up by not buying Sword last Sunday after meme-ing it up saying Sword will get unbanned. It was only 2 bucks at my LGS's bargain binder, now it's gone. Finding a way to not get jewed over (much) but yeah at the end of the day the house always wins I guess. I'll try 2 swords first.

Don't kill yourself m8. The suicide deck is just getting to you, don't listen to it.

Do you run postmortem lunge?
>>
>>46492964

Yeah, because people aren't stupid enough to buy/play the garbage that is the typical modern border "proxy"

Put a T a r m o g o y f, a 2/2 Bob, a C a v e r n o f s o u l s, or an Ancestral Visions on the board and you're going to get called. Its not like the Dual fakes that are practically indistinguishable without a high dpi scan.

No I don't actually, it's been a pretty good while since I've messed with any slots in my 75 but I could definitely see that card having some great utility. Where do you find it good?

Right then, I guess I might get into it when I have more cash.

Which cards on that are outdated by the way?

I don't think a single card there outside of Negate sees modern play. But don't worry man there are budget versions of decks you can but into for around 100 bucks and they're not complete shit.

It just combos really well with Death's Shadow. You can play Shadow at 0/0 or less, respond by Dismembering it, then give it haste for a sweet boost, or just bring back the one they Abrupt Decay'd. Seems like a neat and fun 1-of with some cool interaction.
If you run a Dryad arbor you can bring it back for free too (well, 2 life, but that's a bonus)

By "sees Modern Play" do you mean that they're not permitted or they're not worth using?
>>
>>46493396
They're not worth using. Modern is a very competitive format, cards have to be really good to see successful play.
>>
>>46493396
only vampire nighthawk and negate are worth playing at all, and they are not regularly used in competitive decks.

Imo I like it, it works on the other creatures just as well and it kinda acts like a 5th Deaths Shadow. I dunno I'd only use one though since it's not *that* good, but it's a little bit of glue for the deck imo.

>>46493396
Modern isn't just a casual format where you play certain legal cards. There is no point to not just play full casual at that point.

As for what to replace, I don't know your list so I don't know how tight it is but if you run Mishras Baubles you could easily remove one, IMO theyre nice as cantrips and the interaction with swiftspear is cute but they'd be the first thing I'd trim to make room for a one-of Postmortem
