What are some semi realistic monsters that should be able to live in cold climates. I m talking about strong motherfuckers that should be a match for a dragon.
By semi realistic I mean that they should not be reptiles, but there is a magic in setting so some things can work. For example a ice dragon for this kind of a setting does not make sense, but giant wolves do (but wolves are scrubs compared to dragons).
Also you can post any prehistoric animal that lived during Ice age because it could be a good inspiration for a homebrew cold monsters.

Have you seen the picture of the hundred-metre long shrimp bursting through the glacier?

I don't have the picture myself but I've seen it posted a few times.

There's another picture set around as well - it's of a cold-climate semi-aquatic monster with its seasonal biological changes illustrated .

Orcas would fit in nicely as well. Considering their intelligent hunting strategies, with a little scaling up a pod might be able to tackle a dragon.

You should probably consider questions like
>What does it eat?
>How does it obtain what it eats?
>What does it compete with when obtaining food?

A truly enormous creature like in your picture would need a truly enormous amount of food to stay functional. Polar bears have enough trouble and they're not much larger than people.

Perhaps it's got the ability to live for years at a time under deep freeze, like the Siberian salamander? Wakes up only when something is large enough to disturb it.

You need some ningens son. They're 80 ft long, blubbery, albino whale-like humanoids. They supposedly inhabit frigid antarctic waters and are rarely seen.
You could probably make them a bit more visible in your campaign though. Visible and violent.

Something with lots of fat and blubber on it. It has to be bulky as shit.
>>

Would love to see it.

>>46463424
I forgot to mention it but I m looking for land creatures. I wont mind a creature that can go in sea but can walk normally on land. I m making sea so filled with wildlife that it made sea inaccessible to pass via ships.

>>46463428
Yeah you have the point. >>46463467
This anon tries to give one solution, Also monsters like pic related would be super rare. Like maybe 3 on this part of continent. While monster who are the size of dragon would be uncommon the food problem still remains. I taught about adding some other monsters of different sizes like wolves and bears that are 2x-3x bigger then on Earth. Also I think about adding more to food pyramid so what is the big reason it would not work. Also there is a magic but I would like to try to use it as the last resort because it might sound like an aspull.

That thing looks smaller than a blue whale, so it wouldn't have to be that crazy uncommon.

There used to be an art contest (not sure if that's the right word to be honest) called Creature of the Week. Each week the mods would post a name or short description and any artist that knew about it could submit a creature based on it. I haven't followed CoW in years so idk if it's still running or remember the specifics of how it worked.

Does that creature have a name or was it only drawn once ?

>>46464168
Source on this ? They may not be exactly what I m looking for but they could have their use.
>>46464147
Same question as above. Though if I add this guy it would probably be super rare.

>but wolves are scrubs compared to dragons
A pack of wolves would be more than a match for a landbound dragon, and if they've been around dragons long enough the wolves will know to go for the wing sockets first.

>>46464120
this looks to be a chimera
>>

Speaking of giant wolves, of course.

Looks more like some sort of cold weather manticore to me.
>>
>>46464120
I'm not sure if Manticores really fit into arctic enviroment.
