The rails on the collapsed section should be torn up and bent a bit, and the same gots for the ends of the piece still standing just before that segment. Those things twist, bend and pull up/down/sidetoside.

Dark eldar anon from yesterday - adding some shadow spectres to the freakshow, how should I go about colouring them? I ask because I am colour-blind and so am doing it mostly by reading the pots so far.
The help the other day to colour the warriors was really good, and ended up like this, so I'm looking for how to match them while still distinguishing them as another army.

What would look better on my Necron vehicles and such? Silver with green details, or Gold with green details, or Copper with green details?

The colors mentioned are to replace the usual black, and will be painted metallic, the green is going to be the same as normal, however.

If it helps, my Necrons' bodies will be gold, with my Overlord having Silver ornamentations, such as his cape.

I haven't gotten them yet, but I'm trying to decide on how I should do the Triarch Stalker, as I've decided on my Necrons' color scheme, but not if I want to do the vehicles in the usual black and green or not.

This is my current scheme for my space marines, but I want to paint a group of sternguard. I read that the white stripe down the helmet is a sign of veterans, but I am afraid that would look awful against the current scheme. Any thoughts on alternatives?
>>
>>46465441
I'm making my Sternguard all helmetless, because cool guys don't wear helmets.

Tbqh the pimping shoulderpads that the Sternguard kit has can designate veteran status all on their own, or if you wanted something more vanilla you could track down 5 Crux Terminatus shoulderpads for their right shoulders- nothing says 'Veteran' like terminator honours.

>Any thoughts on alternatives?

>>46465531 has the right idea on the Crux Terminatus. That is the official designator of membership into the First Company. There are of course sculpted Crux Terminatus shoulder pauldrons (I count five in the Sternguard kit alone!), but some of the weapons and armour in the Sternguard kit also display them. The original Blood Angel Chaplain Lemartes came with a bolt pistol bit for his left hand with a Crux Terminatus (presumably his Rosarius with the force field generator hidden in it). I bought several of those back when you still could.

Other possibilities include:
-- Changing helmet or limb colours
-- Using greaves or pauldrons reinforced with molecular bonding studs
-- Laurels for bravery on the helmets or other parts of the armour
-- Liberal use of goodies like marksman honours, purity seals, and scroll cases
-- Hoods, capes, tabards, or cloaks
-- Small decorative shields as besagews, worn in the manner of the Grey Knights

Boys, bigmek, dok and warboss piled in on wraiths and slowly wittled em down, melee got reinforced by some warriors and Anrakyr.
Warboss called him a sissy, he accepted the challenge. 2 turns later he snips off the necron's head while simultaneously getting nuked by his own lucky stikk. Shit was cash.

Lost the match 8-2. But orks never lose, you know...

>I'd have to look but my models are metal so I'm unable to change much. It seems like only one has the crux attached as is.

Anon, two of the three models in >>46467511 are metal - the two on the left.

Metal Space Marine veterans - if you have them - don't need a whole lot of adornment; they're already flash enough as it is. If you're just using regular metal squadboyz that take plastic arms, then stealing arms, weapons, and pauldrons from Sternguard, Vanguard, or Space Marine Commander boxes is perfectly acceptable.

Attaching purity seals, scroll tubes, and besagews - assuming you have the bitz from one kit or another - can be done to any model provided you can find the room.

First Edition officers were universally issued a generic "backpack/cloak" that replaced the normal backpack. You might consider adding cloaks, tabards, or pteruges uniformly, whether you have to find the bitz or make them from kneadatite.

If all else fails, you can always paint the Crux Terminatus onto the right pauldron in place of the normal squad/company marking.

i think i could have done it neater, i only have cheap brushes so a fine tip was difficult to do. aside from the vials, the model overall is actually pretty simple to do. most of the layering and highlighting is just on big patches like the hand and skin, and all the fine details are done with drybrushing or blotches, like the rust, necron compound highlighting or the oxidization on the warplock bronze

it's probably been my favourite infantry model to paint, however

So I'm using Army Painter's Matt Varnish spray to seal a model and it seems to be spraying properly, but I'm not sure if it's actually affecting the model.
I expected the model to get slightly wet from the varnish and then slowly dry matt, but it just looks the same as before right away, so I'm not sure if it's actually applying. Can I assume that I'm doing things correctly as long as I don't get the infamous grey graininess? I'm following the instructions on the can and the weather is ideal.

Don't have to be perfect, and I don't mind size, but the guide is a great shorthand to tell people how to take photos that you might actually be able to critique, and there's so little effort involved in actually doing it (have a lamp, a camera and a piece of paper).

The transitions between them are ridiculously stark for blending, you need to do a lot of intermediate mixes of them to avoid a line like that. Go slow, add small amounts of your lighter colour.

>>
>>46478320
Besides what asstights says the first picture was fine, this second one not like so.

>I applied some paint and wiped it away with my finger
You aren't painting a fence man, thin paints with water and give the surface 2/3 thin coats.
Learn brush control, first and foremost. You can't start learning any advanced technique until you can't control your brush strokes.
Use inks/washes for shades while you are learning the rope, they are quick and easy to use, until you feel confortable enough to experiment otherwise.
Next time you paint something like your skaven, glue the staff after painting. That way you ll have an easier time to get around the arm and torso.
>>
>>46478762
Well, I'm not entirely new. I've done a few things, but never tried blending colours like that. Thanks though.

I learned my lesson about painting before assembly with my lizardmen and do so at every opportunity. Unfortunately I got the rats secondhand so there's little choice here.
>>
>>46478733
Basically you use one brush to apply the paint to the model then quickly switch to another moist brush without any paint on it and use it to blend.

Here's a video that shows the technique, although he uses saliva to wet his second brush which I wouldn't recommend: https://youtu.be/g5xy-bNSzQA?t=99
You should consider acrylic retarder if you want really good results.
>>
>>46479097

There we go. That's exactly the technique I'm looking for. Yeah, I'll use my acrylic thinner. Thanks!
>>
>>46478709
