I'm here. Do you have any more pictures of deserts, more reminiscent of the Wild West than the Sahara. Or a picture of a valley that obviously had a big battle take place there.

But nobody is reading it.

I'll dump a few pics I have, but I don't think my collection is as good as yours.

I've always wondered at the context for this one. Like, what is going on in this world for there to be two active settlements divided by only a few hundred meters of river but centuries of technological development?
>>46448123
Disparity is about as old as civilization.
There's not any reason for there to be people homeless or hungry now, but lots of people are.
There's also the matter of deliberate lifestyle choice; just look at the Amish, Catholics, or anti-vaxxers, deliberately abstaining from useful technologies on principle/misinformation.
>>46448123
Have you ever been to a third world country and seen the slums? It can feel pretty close to that when you see a skyscraper on one block and a shanty town right next to it. Sure the shanty town has pirated electricity and a few appliances but the juxtaposition can still be pretty jarring.
>>46448240
At least in the case of the Amish, they live in relatively secluded communities away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. I can't help but think that the people in the medieval village look up at the city and think, "Wait, why are we down here drinking their refuse again?" with frequent regularity.
>>46448459
>>46448307
In theory, the Amish abstain from technology to keep their focus on the community. It's a reasonable point in light of people who've managed to develop smartphone dependency, or who whine about being lonely over the internet (which literally connects more of humanity than has ever before been possible).
I won't pretend to be acquainted with the realities of Amish light so I don't know if the principle measures up in reality, but even so it's probably less contemptible than other forms of technological resistance.

The sheer continuous vertical height (which means hiking out isn't even an option in some cases), and the fact that some of the nastiest whitewater in the US is at the bottom engendered some healthy respect in those of us who visit it frequently.
(I find it looks a fair bit more sinister in the winter)

Not the place for this so I will accept the sage but this tee reminds me of a setting I thought to assemble, once.
>All the world is a tree. A huge, huge tree.
>Branches are like continents.
>Those very few who have followed the trunk all the way to the roots and spoken to the god that dwell there have learned the truth of the world.
>The roots exist in another universe as a single, ever growing machine that has been slowly, mindlessly and relentlessly been consuming the whole of that existence.
>Stars, worlds and souls devoured, processed and reborn as their equivalent in the Tree.
It's edgy as fuck, sure, but I though it was a neat concept.

Anyone have comfy-themed small towns and villages?
In my setting, most people live in 50-ish person villages about a half day's walk from the next village over.
>>46450549
Sort of, I guess? SCP-093 is one of a series of devices that, when placed upon a mirror-grade reflective surface, opens a portal toa ruined world.
Each individual device, when activated, leads tothe same world. They take the user todifferent locations on said world based upon their level of guilt,or something like that. The world was apparently destroyed following the inhabitants encounter with an extra terrestrial entity and their subsequent use of the technology it gave them.I think? Been a while since I read it. The entrant can't see the ghosts mentioned in the report, but they are picked up on camera. Everyone can see the big shambling torso monsters that absorb you into their collective mass, though. They are the most unsavory results of using whatever technological boon that alien granted them.

The Amish also - at least the local Texas version of them - don't hate or shun tech as a concept. Rather, they shun DEPENDENCE on tech. There are many Amish people who actually have things like cell phones and computers - they're just only used when they're needed, as opposed to whenever they want, and they have equivalent hardware to match (like only having a 90's era cell phone, or an extremely basic computer with nothing on it besides internet connectivity and maybe Microsoft Office).
At least, so say some former Amish.
