I love Strike! too, but it's not a pool.

Or...maybe it's a pool of 1, I guess.

I actually really like Burning Wheel, quite possibly one of my favorite systems period.

Yep. West End Star Wars = Best Star Wars.

Or at least the one I have had the best time playing a game of.
>>
>>46442146
Someone made a generic rules-lite RPG and tacked some 4eish grid based combat onto it.

It's okay for what it is, but it attracts some strong opinions because it is often sold on /tg/ as being the successor to 4e when they are actually pretty different games.

It's more like 4e combat with a rules-light RPG tacked on for out of combat.

PF is like 3.5.5 or something. Strike! doesn't even use a d20 or stats.
>>
Grimm. Everyone is a kid, your skills are measured in grade levels.
My favourite part, is when characters help each other, the player who's leading gets a d6 from everyone else, to emphasize the teamwork aspect.

Autists who spaz out over other people touching their dice need not apply.
>>
>>46443559
can you die in this game?
>>
>>46442263
Is Strike! even a role-playing game?

I know you don't need rules to role-play, but reading the rules it's like it's not a role-playing game. Is it supposed to be?
>>
>>46443143
do you have the rules?
>>
>>46444081

Only with d6s.
>>
>>46444134
I guess it depends on your definition.

It's not any less of a roleplaying game than FATE, Mouseguard, Apocalypse World, etc.
>>
>>46444320
I guess I'll have to re-read the rules.

But I remember getting the impression that I didn't even know if it was being presented as an RPG, or a wargame, or a board game, or whatever.

I dig the idea though, since 4E was pretty fun.
>>
>>46441817
I agree, not a lot of people know it (even here) but is really fun IMO.

>>
>>46444081
It's meant to be a lighthearted game, and also, you're fucking 10. So player death is only meant as a super last resort thing. Combat is all about teaming up and out-maneuvering or out-thinking opponents, because one-on-one, even the Bully or Jock archetypes will get rekt. If you lose a fight, it's usually a "Oh, and you all blacked out, and you wake up in one of the few safe places in the world." It's like losing a fight in pokemon.

Kingdom of Ooo.
I've been toying around with it trying to make a more generic set of the rules, also adding in rules for mundane helping and healing that don't involve spending Hero points, so as to enable people who want Bardly and Clericly powers.

>>46444363
4e was fun, except all the powers were made of the same copypaste effects. More than half of them boil down to some combination of giving somebody a +1, moving a particular mini somewhere else on the board or just doing damage.

Those are useful and simple effects to have. Not everything has to be complicated, plus there were still more than enough complicated/unique effects to choose from if you wanted.

RPG: Mouseguard
Miniatures Game: Firestorm Armada(although the new Heavy Gear rules are really pushing hard)

Pokemon Tabletop United
skill rolls are all in Xd6 with X being 1-6 depending on skill level, or 8 if you're a faggot who wants to never fail anything
accuraccy is still d20 though, sadly

So its Dungeon World out of combat classes (but none of the pretentious opaque terminology), 4e Combat roles and classes, and 5e's Advantage/Disadvantage, as well as rules for how to progress the story based on how poorly people did in combat?

Let's see... combat classes seems to be >Necromancer (paths: Undeath/Terror/Vampirism)
>Duelist (a focusfire specialist. paladin smite, cavalier challenge, etc.)
>Archer (Green Arrow)
>Martial Artist (Master of Many Styles)
>Warlord (copypasta)
>Magician (Torment the pokemon move, I prepare my spells at random, I sac health for boosted power)
>Bombadier (think PF alchemist, but no mutagen or extracts)
>Shapeshifter (druid)
>Summoner (exactly what it says on the tin, also I'm drooling)
>Buddies (Pet class. More or less PF summoner without the spell-likes)
>Simplified (I spam basic attacks, because I browse imgur at the table and can't be bothered)

So a character in this system consists of:

Background (i.e. a mechanical one)
Origin (Race)
Kit (Dungeon World class)
Combat Class (see list above)
Combat Role (4e's roles, but splitting Control in two, one that's AoE specialist, one that says "screw this guy in particular")
Feats

and as a part of the background, you have two tricks and complications

Seems like a lot of stuff to decide on, and a lot to take in for a new player. Though at least all its systems seem to be internally uniform.
>>
>>46450829
That's about it, although supposedly the entire tactical combat side is optional (but it's probably the best part of the thing so you'd be kinda foolish not to use it), along with kits. Without it it's kinda like a further simplified DW/Burning wheel.

It is quite a lot to decide upon character creation. Amusingly, I had a really good experience with unique Backgroun/Origin at character creation with a half-new group (50% "never touched a tabletop RPG before" new), just picking out 10 skills, 2 tricks, 2 complications, and a really bad one with an "experienced" group, so it's really up to the individuals.

You didn't mention, but I also really like the Team Conflict rules, and there's some pretty okay examples on building a campaign mechanically (tweaking rules/skills lists/etc) in there.

will antipaladin ever release the full game?

Also, the Thief class is out now. It's a mix of 4e thief/monk, so it's got Movement powers+the option to select between being backstabb-y/poison-y/flurr-y.

Star Wars D6, like others have already said. It's simple to learn, works well with the action-focussed setting and has lead to half a year of great fun for my friends and me.

Strike! also has a psion class now.

Been looking into this lately; looks very neat. Anyone have a download link that isn't dead?
>>
>>46452218
It's not official, technically, and I kinda don't like it's gimmick.
>>
>>46451212
Probably not, but all you really need is the edition they finally came out with and whatever setting you like from old d6.

Mini Six Star Wars would be a glorious thing to run, but I already do FFG.
