not the most powerful card in your sealed pool, but the one that won you the most games

Pic related saved my skin quite a few times, or let me squeeze in that last bit of damage I needed. Getting a clue out of it isn't a bad deal either.

The card quality provided game-long really helped my otherwise fuck-awful pool, and it also helped me get tricky card types in my yard for delirium.

Didn't do great overall, but when I did win this was a major contributor.
>>
>>46444380
seconding this, also Insolent Neonate. Opened three in my 2HG flight today and I don't think they ever got blocked

I was gonna say Kindly Stranger but Crawling Sensation stacked every delirium card in the deck.

Delirium enabler + fatty = GG

Morkut Necropod, and I know anon won me a good number of matches today. As for OP my great prerelease pull was howlpack resurgence. Didn't even matter that my promo was Thing in Ice

Sin Prodder in a high-cmc deck. I was either getting massive card advantage or bleeding him dry
>>

Aim High was a brilliant combat trick

My three MVPs
>>
>>46446923
Same, I splashed red solely so that I could get a sin prodder in a green white deck with big creatures, plus he helps with delirium which is good for a lot of the big green guys, odric was also in there to give everyone keywords once guys got them from delirium.
>>
>>46447261

I won 7 matches (2 full rounds, even) because I used Triskadekaphobia for shits and giggles and to take up space.

I'd have to say either Westvale Abbey or Topplegeist.

Although the Tamiyo's Journal / Briarbridge Patrol was a sweet combo. Thinking of throwing Ulamog in there for a GW deck.

How would you like to have 5 cards in hand while being at 25+ life in sealed?

Finishing power is a problem for this deck, but my second event I got a Geralf's Masterpiece and shit was gravy.

Went 5-1 and 4-0 on Bant clues and then Sultai clues

>2hg
>opponents on hyper agro
>accurately read their body language and whispers to know they are referring to the double strike card
>both times counter it with -4/-0 investigate spell

Those plays won us the event.

Also in one turn sac'd a clue to flip daring sleuth, cast the -4/-0 investigate spell, and the (g) investigate spell that pumps, triggering prowess twice and blowing the blocks right the fuck up. It felt goodman

How in the fuck do you effectively enable delerium without making a neutered sub par deck? I tried and even when I had it online the bonuses weren't great but I didn't cast that guy
>>
>>46450923
uhh generally just playing magic? Block with a creature, it dies, ok now i have creature, cast an instant and a sorcery, thats two types. Generally you do need a mill effect to get an enchantment, artifact, or land in this format though, but there's lots of them.

you run the good delirium cards, and not the bad ones, as well as running good delirium enablers. Topplegiest and Manic Scribe both have delirium, but Topplegiest is a limited all star with delirium enabled and manic scribe is mediocre even with delirium. Paranoid parish blade is a 4/2 first strike for 3, and all you need to do is enable delirium.

enabling delirium can also be super simple. Vessel of Nascency can get it set up very early, artifact creatures are bananas good triggering it and you will play instants and sorceries and lose creatures at some point.

Don't run bad delirium enablers either, a lot of power in this format is the ability to hold back mana and do stuff when your opponent can't respond properly. Warped Landscape is basically the same thing as Fork in the Road but ones a land and instant speed, the other's a sorcery.

Speaking of Warped Landscape, that card put in work. Going 2 colors and running a warped landscape with the uncommon cycle with an off color activated ability turns them into god tier abilities (pic related, went white green but ran a warped landscape and an island and pretty reliably had bouncing protection enabled. Definitely going to be a plan in draft to try and set similar effects up.)
>>
>>46450990
I thought he looked like Sean Connery
>>
>>46451172
To be fair though, Fork in the road gets you half way to delirium.
>>
>>46451197
it does, and I was running 1 of it myself. I ran across 2 separate decks that were running 3 fork in the roads because they looked at it as a delirium enabler and were sure more if it was better. Running one of fork in the road is fine, you sometimes just need sorceries and lands and it fits the bill. Please for the love of god don't run multiples.
>>
>>46451216
>3
Oh god, I ran 2 because my deck was delirium based.
>>
>>46451256
were you three color as well, or splashing for activated abilities or did you just have trouble getting delirium on otherwise?
>>
>>46451270
I was splashing a third color for removal, and was low on ways to get land in the yard
>>
>>46451287
see that's a fair time to run 2. I ran against a guy with a bunch of moldgraf scavengers and a few red delirium cards that could have gone beatdown but bogged himself down with forks and the red vessel of all goddamn things.

Unexpected from reading the spoilers was how damn aggressive this format is. All the good aggro cards can either get a second life with delirium (moorland drifter going from a bear to a drake nearly cost me a game) or have really heavy reach. You really need to lock down what your gameplan is and focus on that, from what I can tell.

Merciless Resolve won me two games the second one being my last match placing me in first for the whole event.

The card draw was secondary mostly. Instead I used it for the instant speed sac a creature to get around the +3/+1 lifelink booster fucking EVERYONE was throwing around. He threw two on one creature and blocked my biggest threat expecting the lifelink to get him through.

This card is stupid good to play in any Werewolves deck. I used a Bant one with UG for Delirium and clues and it was sick.

This card is key to playing with werewolves. It will definitely see Standard play and it also curves off another great flash uncommon, Howlpack Resurgence.

I went 2-0 on the second prerelease with a human white/green that had avacyn and just left cause i was seriously sleep deprived. Could have gone 4-1/5-0 with it for sure. Avacyn and westvale abbey were definately my most usefull picks
>>
>>46455550

3-1 in Sealed despite a terrible pull (promo Ever After; yuck). Went undefeated until the last round running B/R aggro, but the final opponent was on tokens and was running both Sorin and Nahiri. He beat me 2 out of 3.

Bossest thing that happened to me was attacking for 20 trample damage with Neck Breaker and some other dudes.

Indulgent Aristocrat and Call the Bloodline was a pretty busted combo, but I won anyway before I could get more than two tokens.

Slayer's Plate on anything was a house. I put it on Accursed Witch and went to town.

Sin Prodder saved me a few times from getting land-screwed.

Funniest stories I heard from other players were:
—a copied Startled Awake milled someone to death for 26
—Two Triskaidekaphobia kills
—Someone transformed Abbey into Ormendahl only to have it get bounced

>game one, get absolutely destroyed, opponent gets super fucking smug about it
>game two, terribly opening hand, opponent gets me to 3 with me having never touched him
>stabilize, do some life gain and shit, remove his entire board and win the game
>game three, several awful hands in a row, mulligan to 4, he gets super obnoxious and overconfident
>keeps trying to cut me off being like "My turn? And immediately starts playing stuff when I am obviously in the middle of my turn, ignores negative text on his cards all the time, not recording his own life damage, (not that I let this shit pass, obviously.) Basically plays like the most obnoxious douche in the would.
>in a similar position to game two, down to low health, him still mostly untouched
>get out avacyn, which he has not seen in my deck before

The amount of salty he was could have preserved a cow for a year. Especially after I reminded him that we could have drew to both be in prizes.

Lost horribly.
Little removal, little draw, few creatures, bad rares (for limited anyways).

>>
>>46459748
I had fun with it, it does nice work optimizing your mana. The stuff that triggers off of clue-saccing can get you a lot of value, too.

The secret tech is using it in white in case you're low on permanents to sac to Angelic Purge or Pious Evangel.
>>
I played a green-blue investigate deck. I had the 1/3 flyer that makes you an extra Clue token when you investigate, and the enchantment that mills for 3 whenever you sacrifice a clue token. For the first time in limited magic, I managed to win by milling my opponent out. The best part? He was playing Recurring Nightmare, and was dead sure he would mill me out first. When he got milled, he had to leave the table and scream mentally for a minute before he sat down again.

This right here. In attrition battles it nerfs a lot of your opponent's removal, and basically everyone I played made some sort of misplay against it. Except for the guy running all the dead weights and sleep paralysis, that sucked.
>>

It's suprisingly robust, at least in limited. as mentioned it gives you permanents you can afford to lose, outlets to spend leftover mana, and draws you cards. I think investigate works similarly to morph if you compare investigate to a cantrip and morph to normal casting of a creature. sometimes it costs more, sometimes it costs the same, sometimes it lets you get away with something you otherwise couldn't, but it also allows a level of flexibility that the alternative doesn't. a creature with a 4 mana morph cost can be out on turn four, so it doesn't exactly cost 7 mana in the same way a 7 cmc creature would. investigate gives the standard cantrip cost if 2 mana to draw a card, but you can wait until you have the two mana to spare, so it doesn't just add to the cost.

Both if my decks in the two prereleases I played had very little investigate, but with effects like ulvenwald mysteries or tamiyo's journal that interact with themselves, a little goes a long way. building around it in draft will probably be surprisingly effective with even one repeatable investigate effect, and it might be a playable janky standard deck.

The next time a player tries to strike a deal with you for conceding the game, report him to a magic judge or your tournament organizer. It is considered cheating, and your judge/organizer would immediately disqualify him from the tournament, withdrawing any prizes he may have qualified for. At competitive rules encorcement (Grand Prix Trials and Pro Tour qualificators), if your opponent tries to strike a bargain and you don't immediately report him, you risk being disqualified along with him.

>Get Startled Awake as pre-release Promo
>Mill opponents Avacyn AND Nahiri

I also pulled an Avacyn of my own and ran it to merciless blow out two middle aged probable autists. Felt bad doing that. Really enjoyed playing the format against mentally sound players.

true, but this sounds like a small shop where as long as both sides agreed no one should care
>>
>>46456022
Same, except promo Avacyn. That card with cheap fliers was just ridiculous, went 3-1, the loss was 1-2 in the last round against the guy who came first to my second.

I judge at a small store. Prereleases, Game Days and Friday Night Magic are judged at regular rules enforcement. This means that any mistakes made in the realm of game rules and mechanics, are allowed fixes. Forgot to draw a card at the beginning of your last turn? Draw one now, no worries.
Cheating is part of an entirely different realm of behavior; a realm it shares with violence and theft. As long as you're playing at an event using your DCI number, I would disqualify any cheating player from the event, even if this would leave us with critically few players left. This penalty would be permanently tracked on his DCI number. If I must choose between running events filled with cheaters, and not running sanctioned events due to few honest players, I'd rather not run sanctioned events.

only kinda. nothing makes clues at the rate braid grows mana. it's cute but not exactly world shattering.

well of knowledge was better before m10.

Sanitariun skeleton gave me so much mileage. I fucking love him.

> Condemning players who prize split at the lowest competitive levels when it happens at every level above it, too.
"But the pros don't say the naughty words out loud! So it's okay when they do it!"

Offering packs in exchange of a concession is NOT prize splitting, it's collusion. Prize splitting is completely legal.

Avacyn. Lost two games where I cast her, in one I had no other creatures left and she got killed immediately, in the other she got countered. Other than that I think she won me about 4-5 games. Never got a flip.
Honorable mentions go to Avacynian Missionaries, which won 2 games by itself when paired with an equipment, and to Burn from Within which finished 3 or 4 games.

Sad about the Westvale Abbey that I never managed to flip. When there were 5 dudes out, I was winning anyway or there was too much risk of bounce or exile.

Second for Sin Prodder being awesome. Literally won me half my games in my pretty shitty G/R aggro deck.

My bud played the Jace we opened and we also played against one. For 15 mana 3 creatures were bounced and 4 cards were drawn.

In contrast One of my opponent's decked himself due Nahiri

>>46464781
Yeah, my main problem was the fact that every time I got Jace out, my opponent had a form of evasion so I couldn't block.

So when player A asks Player B to concede, then just "coincidentally" slips Player B a few hundred dollars after the tournament because they are both "such good friends"; that's okay with you?

I've been playing since Return to Ravnica and I only just got my first planeswalker draw from the prerelease box.
It was also my first prerelease, so going 3/1 was pretty good too. Invocation on my uninvited geist was unfair to all opponents.

I went to my local small store. Pretty casual. We pretty much distributed the prere packs between ourselves; passing them down the table etc. I ended up with two in my hand and had to pick one to pass to the guy next to me.

I hand him one, and he opens an Avacyn and a Jace.

>mfw

All I got was a Hypnotoad and some UW garbage, and a Falkenrath Gorger.

Even my promo was a fucking land!

Seconding this, turning those land draws into lifelinkers, with Olivia it was bretty gud.
