So you know the Bronze Age right?

Big kingdoms, silly looking armor, ancient legend, and hugely wealthy palaces and such?

It all collapsed incredibly quickly and violently over about fifty years, with most cities being completely abandoned. Took around two centuries for any major authority to start up again.

Lots of things were happening at the same time. The advent of Ironworking made it easier for anyone to get their hands on enough high quality weapons to challenge central authority, there were widespread droughts and volcanic eruptions, a series of migratory waves by the "Sea Peoples" devastated the coastal regions, there was a rapid decrease in temperature similar to the Little Ice Age, and mass production of war material lead to larger and bloodier battles.

Lets go interesting and say Night of the Long Knives; a purge that took place in Nazi Germany from June 30 to July 2, 1934.

Players are all working class germans with non-nazi affiliations. The campaign is about them trying to leave germany before their purged.

And ill find some way to work in bionic technology. Perhapse one of the purged is a scientist working on bionics. The group have to decide which country to set up in. Probably switzerland, maybe america. Its up to them.

THEN.
Fastforward to modern day. The sons/daughters of these migrants discover the bionic tech in their fathers basment. Along with some old Mp38s / Thompsons. Players eventually become David Sariff from Deus Ex, except in modern times, and guess what? Facism is on the rise again.

Sound good?

You know those oral tales Homer used to yabber on about? Something something the fall of Troy? That period.

Except not really. Historically between ~1200 BC and 1000 BC there's a large change in Mediterranian/Western Asia. A fair number of cultures, particularly the New Kingdom in Egypt, the Hittites and Mycenaeans, collapsed, and a huge number of cities throughout the Levant are razed and (presumably) destroyed.

What follows is a very important "dark ages" era, particularly in Greece, where you have a lot of cities quite culturally and economically isolated from one another, which eventually leads to the "Classical" period 400 years later.

Yes, it was used in the Rhodesian Bush War, which was basically a giant guerilla warfare campaign. The entire design was supposed to be mine resistant (hence wheels out front, angled bottom, etc)

Rhodesians basically won every single battle, sometimes with 1:1000 K:D ratios, but still lost because there were just too many black commies to deal with (also, every non-communist power backstabbed them at the same time)

the result was a genocide of the white Rhodesian population, kek. Rhodesians withdrew because they couldn't withstand the bajillion civilian casualties and daily mass rape-murders

>You go hide in the marshes for a winter, then travel among the peasants, starting a guerrilla campaign while gathering a military force and sending for all of your nobles to come meet you
>Finally kick the barbarians out of your lands
>Rebuild kingdom with a fort system and militia, become major regional power

Sengoku era Japan was pretty crazy. Lots of different factions all bent on conquering the capital and declaring a new age. An exotic, highly mountainous island setting, interesting personal rivalries between the warlords (Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen were bitter enemies, but also pretty gay for each other), lots of suspense (the underdog Odas nearly won it all) and lots of intrigue (backstabbing galore).

The 3 kingdoms period of China and the dying days of the Han dynasty that immediately preceded it is also good for this sort of thing. It was sheer anarchy. Dozens of competing warlords fought it out to carve out a new dynasty for over half a century. It's got all the backstabbing, politicking, war waging, and chaos you'd need for an interesting campaign environment.

France as a nation didn't exist at the time, period.
The normans were as much french as the gascons, picards, occitans, or any ethnicity that populated what is known today as France.
And frog legs were a regular dish in Normandy during that period.
