ITT: We discuss 18th century troll culture while we wait for OP to not be kill, because, my goodness, was that not the greatest concept ever:

"Thing is, the war was never about gnoll rights..."
Ya, there's no way trolls would be the Union.
>>46433793
You mean 19th century?
>>46434464
Why not just trolls on both sides?
>>46435279
The American Civil War was in 1860. I supposed you could call it early 19th.
>>46435286
Because someone made the great suggestion of having dwarfs be the Union.
>>46433793
I know, right?
>>46434464
Mineral rights, man. Turns out the Troll Confederacy struck rich veins in a mountain on their side.
The gnolls just supplied a convenient cover-up for the dwarves to attack while not being viewed as cantankerous little cunts.
>>46435364
Imagine being a dwarven soldier and hearing this coming up from behind the hill in a much deeper and monstrous bellow. It'd be the stuff of nightmares:

>>46435434
Imagine the sheer cacophony of whooping as they down a dwarven airship with bomb-lance harpoons.
The dwarven soldiers watching in abject terror as their resupply falls out of the sky.
>>46435666
Are bomb-lances troll for cannons?
>>46435344
The 19th century was from 1800 to 1899 my dude.
It's the 21st century right now even though it begins 20--
>>46435737
Well, I was thinking actual bomb-lances, but as a generic term for "cannon" among trolls it's pretty good.
Like, you have your basic bomb-lance which is basically just a shoulder-mounted cannon/mortar firing explosive shells, and then you have your bomb-lance harpoon used for precision against armored targets like airships and ironclads.
>>46435877
Huh, what do I know?
>>46435892
On the topic of airships, at what point do we restrict technology? It seems that most people want realistic tech, but do dwarven airships count as tech, or are they magical and naturally come with the fantasy race?
>>46435968
I'd have to say a bit of "fantastical" technology comes with the races. Like, they're still just rigid airships traveling 15-20mph on their own power like the ones that cropped up ~30 years after the end of the Civil War.
>>46436181
For the sake of civ challenge though, trolls would be a bit behind.
>>46436330
Of course. They've been able to survive of their own accord thus far, so they haven't felt that disturbing the status quo was necessary for most purposes.
>>46436565
Until now. The Jotnar will rise again!

We fixed it! I'm dumb!
>The trolls and gnolls are actually living in a mutually beneficial relationship
>If the trolls didn't function as a ruling class to the gnolls, they would squabble among themselves and starve to death
>In order to accomplish this, the trolls utilize physical violence to establish dominance and assign tasks of hard physical labor
>The gnolls actually live decent lives when considering gnolls, the trolls just live even better
>Everyone surprised when the "rescued gnolls" turn on their "saviors"
>>46436769
> "Why would those hyenoids want to go BACK to the plains?! We've offered them civilization!"
