New to tabletop games and role playing.
Want to try it out.
But...
I'm bad at learning new stuff and the friend(s) I'd play with are worse.

Is there something with a rule book that isn't long that's easy... But also maybe has rules for randomly generating an adventure since I'm not experienced in that either?

I'll take whatever I can get.

Risus is a system that's 4 pages long:

And this is a contest to make adventures that are one page long:

dungeons and dragons 5e is fairly noob friendly, there are also pre-made campaigns for it, unless you really, really want to make your own stuff

i recommend the lost mines adventure

There always has to be someone that recommends D&D to people who want to poke their head into this hobby.

That's because people start with D&D (because it has name recognition so it's the obvious choice) and assume that, because they started with it and they turned out fine, it might be a great choice.

Barbarians of Lemuria doesn't have a random adventure generator, but you could get that from somewhere else and slap the dirt-simple mechanics of BoL onto it.

>Barbarians of Lemuria,Mythic Edition (current edition) -- https://www.mediafire.com/folder/7llc83r2xf8bg/Barbarians_of_Lemuria_-_Mythic_Edition

>Barbarians of Lemuria, Legendary Edition (earlier edition, fewer details & more minimalist presentation makes it even easier to learn, but the rules aren't as refined) -- http://www.mediafire.com/download/p5w885sa9a869ma/Barbarians+Of+Lemuria+-+Legendary+Edition.pdf

>Barbarians of Lemuria, House Rules / Patches for Legendary Edition (if you want the bare bones minimalism of Legendary, but with the rules tightened up a bit) -- https://mega.co.nz/#F!CtQR2bST!y_awB-GHCiL3CdK4iLCV7A

If you're dead set on fantasy, Dungeon World is a much better start than DnD. There's a free SRD available at http://www.dungeonworldsrd.com/
(SRD means 'System Reference Document' - it's all the rules, but none of the examples)
The game itself is also pretty cheap.

Some people on 4chan don't like it for whatever reason. It definitely has some flaws, especially compared to the game it's based on (Apocalypse World) but it's generally a fantastic introduction to RPGs. It will also give you a clear idea of things you like and things you don't like, so you can play a couple of sessions, give a trip report and we can make better recommendations.

it's because D&D is a great game.

DnD is at least 6 different games. Each edition is pretty much its own game (except maybe ADnD 1e to 2e, which was more iterative).
Some people like some, some don't. For example, I think that both Basic/BECMI and 4e are pretty good, but don't like the rest.

Old school D&D is sort of like a ring species, really. One edition fades into another, but by the time you've gone through several fades, you've introduced enough differences that while they're still similar, they're no longer really compatible anymore. B/X -- Holmes Basic -- Base level OD&D -- OD&D with all the supplements -- AD&D -- 2nd edition AD&D.

And ADnD2e with the Player's Option books is almost its own game in itself. Sort of like how I'd never want to play core only 3e, but 3.5e with the Tome of Battle, Incarnum, Psionics and limited to tier3/4 is interesting to me.
Of course that's a horrible way to introduce a newbie to a game, which is why I'm depressed about Pathfinder being a 'gateway' game.
Also, that's a cool diagram and concept.
