I wonder if Theodore didn't direct her to form a relationship with Victor in order to manipulate the FedCom.
>>
>>46392683
Doubtful. That's the sort of thing you'd send a trained agent for, not a amateur. Also, pimping out one's own daughter to the heir of one's greatest foe would be extinction-level dishonorabru. Like, everyone you've ever talked to commits sepukku from the shame of having met you levels of DISHONORABU, so it's pretty unlikely for that reason alone
>>
>>46392683
He wouldn't have ordered her to break off with Victor after asking him to go rescue Hohiro if he did...unless his plan the whole time was for Takashi to order him to let them talk again...

If Theodore didn't ask her to break off communications, then the grorious nippon steer direction Victor went in later would totally support that theory.

Omi's the daughter of the Kanrei/Coordinator, so I presume she got the best education possible. Also, there are other languages spoken in the Combine: the Rasalhagians had their Swedenese (and I can't imagine what that would sound like, probably like a Swedish anime enthusiast), the Azami spoke Arabic, etc.

Also, the Ghost Regt colonel in the Camacho's Caballeros books mentioned having a good education, and her minions had no problem talking to the Caballeros, who presumably spoke English.

On the topic of battle armor I'm playing around with designing a variant for the first time ever, and I have some questions.

For starters, does advanced standard armor have any advantage over regular standard armor aside from the 20% weight savings?
I just ask because it uses up a lot of slots and makes me question how useful it is.
>>

>>46392546

>>46394784

Only really worth it for Heavy/Assault suits that can't make Anti-'Mech attacks any way and where you weren't really expecting speed.

But for those designs, pretty good.

And now everyone knows who I really am :( Curse you, 4chan and your de-anonymising ways.
>>
>>46395389
Nope, it just weighs less.
And welcome to BA creation, or as I call it "this is gonna be so awesome, wait, fuck, no I ran out of space"
>>46394784
Quad turrets are some awesome shit, and don't listen to the guy saying that medium quads suck. They seem to be custom-made for urban environments, where their larger ground MP and inability to jump or mount onto an omni are mitigated by the environment you are fighting in.
Just look at the Rott, with its 5 MP and dat 4 firedrake loadout.

I am feeling you on that one right now as I look at weapon mounts and armaments with regard to weight and slots.

Thoughts on armored gloves and basic manipulators, or the advantages of each? I was working on the "one battle claw, one other" premise when I started.
>>
>>46395389
It's incredibly useful. 90 kg is enough to add that 10th point of armor and a LTAG/Firedrake/bigger gun.

If only the Longinus had gone 10 armor/LTAG over the OSSTM

>>
>>46395008
Someone posted TtS:Bone-Norman last thread.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/x7mmg9
>>
>>46395799
Armored gloves are sick on lights. Humping around an MPPR for no extra weight in addition to whatever else the suit carries is always a plus, and on a suit that small it's probably a significant chunk of your damage output.

Mediums and heavies generally want to go for basic manipulators or a battle claw to let them be all mechanized and shit, and just give up on carrying infantry support weapons by going with the APWM. Choosing between the two is basically just an aesthetic choice (and a measure of how much weight you have left over) unless you're playing the RPG. The specialized manipulator choices do offer small benefits with swarm damage or getting brushed off, but that generally won't come up, or it really won't matter when it does.

Assaults don't give a fuck about what hands they have at the CBT scale.
Well, wait. You could give it the mine clearance hands, I suppose.
>>
>>46396149
I guess I was confused because looking through the TRO for 3058 some BA don't have Basic Manipulators or Armored Gloves listed, they just have "None" whether they have the APWM or not.

When assigning weapons, is the first magazine of shots included in the weapon weight (aside from missiles)?
>>
>>46396272
Yeah, none is a legitimate choice for your manipulator. A lot of the early BA went with the battle claw/none split aping the Elemental.
>>
>>46396272
Oh and you are correct. The first mag of every non-missile weapon is included in the weight.
>>
>>46396374
>>46396404
Gotcha. Terminology threw me with the gloves but it makes sense.

To ape what >>46395669 said regarding space, while I've learned about BA construction my ultimate goal ended up having a really simple fix. I wanted a Longinus that could mount LRRs, MRRs, Plasma rifles, arm-mounted SRMs, etc. I went in doing it like I was building the BA from the bottom up to get a grasp of the basics in design, but in the ended all I had to do was drop the SRM backpack and assign the weapons slots accordingly.
Plus there's the bonus of not having to wait to jettison the SRMs before being able to jump.

Maybe I should call it the Shortginus variant.

Help me out /btg/

Doing augmented lances, battalion is the end goal of 3 augmented lances and an auxiliary mechanized infantry platoon.

I have my light and Command lances figured, its my strike lance I'm having trouble with. Going g for end of succession wars tech, Lyranfag loyalty

WTH-1 Whitworth
2x CLNT-2-3T Clint
COM-2D Commando

What I'm trying to decide is do I want two Saladins? Two Saracens? Is it worth mixing vehicles? Are hovercrafts the best choice? I don't have much experience using vehicles so any tips or experience is appreciated
>>
>>46406015
Are you going to be on the offensive or the defensive? If defending, go with MBTs like the manticore, the schreck, the patton, the bulldog. or maybe LRM carriers.

If you're on the offensive, go with pegasus or drillson hovertanks imo. Or even some warrior VTOLs so you can ignore terrain issues.
>>
>>46406015
Augmented lances are Capellan.

Leaving that aside, because who cares, three augmented lances is not going to get you a battalion. You would have at most a company and a half, plus a platoon of infantry floating around.

Also, you seem to be doing an augmented lance with three mechs and two vees. Which is what the Caps should have been doing, but don't, so if that's how you're using it you may confuse people.
>>
>>46406015
I'd say a hunter to go with the whitworth and a Pegasus or Plainsman to go with the other three; the big speed difference means that you're gonna have trouble keeping a unit like that together, so I'm thinking that the whitworth and Hunter hanging back to lob missiles, while the other three mechs and the hovertank go fast and flank

Thank you for the help, I'll admit to being new to the game and it looks like I've got more research to do. I hadn't taken overall speed into account when I was putting things together. How does drop transport work, in terms of how your unit is distributed across them?

It seems really hazardous to put your CO and XO on the same dropper, a company, or even a battalion, on one. And if you do all your support units on one, same deal.

In other words, how the fuck do people move around and deal with casualties? The universe doesn't seem equipped for it at all
>>
>>46407183

No, because if you can't generate even 1g of vertical thrust you can't even counter the force of gravity to start accelerating upwards.

In the actual Clan war, probably not all that many. Bidding and Clan-style fighting would have kept the death figures pretty low.

After the Clan Invasion... well, the Jaguars were letting plagues and famines run rampant in their OZ, were razing villages on a daily basis, and generally turned the whole place into a shitshow of epic proportions. So for them the casualty figure would have been quite high.

Not much happened for the other Clans though.

I think they even imply in the lore that the Clans would have taken the Inner Sphere back to the days of the early Succession Wars and possibly the Amaris conflict in their bid to rebuild the second Star League (not explicitly, but I believe it's said they wouldn't hesitate to bring war to any world in the Inner Sphere that opposed their efforts).

Well to be honest, they kind of fit one of the concepts they were envisioned with.

Protomechs were (in part) designed as terror weapons also weren't they?

If so, it seems they fit the build.

I imagine few things are as terror inducing as seeing a swarm of Toads and Uglies (Protos) on the field.
>>
>>46419000
That's true, and yes, they were designed that way, as psychological weapons. Something slightly larger than a Battle Armor sucking up PPC hits is terrifying already; make it look like a monster and the IS shits themselves. That's the idea, anyway. That and they were cheap, which was another reason certain Clans picked up on them and others didn't.

Protos also not as vulnerable to Artillery and Battle Armor hunting Mecha like the Kommodo are they?

>>

>also not as

>>46419152
The best way to deal with Protos is massed, accurate fire, because they are tough as hell compared to BA, faster than most BA, and still get the same penalty to shoot at them that BA confer (with the exception of Superheavies, I think. I'm not sure about that so don't quote me). So they can be a problem. They are rare because they require Aeropsace Phenotype pilots, drive you crazy, and aren't "real 'Mechs" so the Clans don't like them as much.

Neg, you shoot at protos normally. They do, however, have a to-hit chart with two "near miss" entries, which cause your shots to miss them. Area effect weapons and some other stuff use the second chart, though, and Glider protos (which can only be made as superheavies, but not all superheavies have to be gliders) take a 1MP penalty on any near-miss result.
>>
>>46419596

FedCom was building the DVS-2 Devastator in 3049. 3/5 with XL engine, near-max armour, 2 GRs with 2 tons of ammo each and 2 PPCs at long range.

It is somewhat more vulnerable than Clan assaults due to the IS XLFE but two headcappers and 50 damage without heat at 18 hexes is pretty much as good as it gets with IS tech until shit like the Stealth Pillager.

But you pretty much need a dual Gauss machine to match the Clan Assaults.

The old books outright stated that the IS was throwing Succession Wars gear at the Clans until after the IlKhan was pasted, then they used the year of peace to shove whatever gear they could on to whatever chassis they could. With the tech retcon, I'd still say most of the border units would be crap tech, but the frontline units would be approaching 3050s gear distribution.

The FedCom's rigidly static attitude in the Clan Invasion is another point of confusion. Hanse should have used the year of peace to send like 200 mech regiments to the front and fuck the Falcon's garrison clusters up.
Instead they moved troops up and... just waited to be attacked singly, like villains in a kung-fu movie.

>>
>>46425246

In the original continuity they were using the time to refit their regiments.

The War of 3039 tech retcon fucks that up since their units were already at the levels indicated in the novels *after* the War of Peace, and also throws out the upgrade speed of publications like the Field Manual series where upgrade rates should have been much higher.

It doesn't make any sense, don't even bother trying to make it.

Kek.

3/5 is the minimum thrust profile to get off-planet. The Behemoth-Class is exclusively used in space because 2/3 isn't enough to exit atmosphere, you need 4 Thrust to do that.

Now, you could build a 2/3 DropShip and use it in atmosphere if you wanted to but it's kinda pointless. You only need another 6 per cent ish of your total mass to go up the extra notch and be able to leave atmosphere for extra flexibility.

By casualties I mean my battalion CO and his XO eating it when their dropper gets shot down, or malfunctions or whatever, and there being no space to spread HQ elements through multiple droppers, if you even have one to begin with.
>>
>>46428974
There's a reason combat droppers are heavily armored and gunned. There's also a reason many droppers have fighter bays.
>>
>>46428974
>when their dropper gets shot down
by and large, people don't shoot dropships down, even when they have the chance.
also, it's standard practice to a): keep DropShips screened with assault ships and fighters and b): land in areas well away from AAA and enemy fighter screens so as to reduce the possibility of a shootdown, since DropShips are insanely valuable and irreplaceable; each costs more than a battalion to a regiment of mechs, and is as rare, maybe more so. easily the vast majority of the time, people would rather chance it to take one on the ground than shoot it down, even if it means fighting more mechs to do so. additionally, ASFs and AAA assets are pretty fuckin rare, so the vast majority of landings are unopposed anyhow.
plus, there's the LosTech factor; simply put, if you shoot down people's DropShips, they'll shoot down yours, and that'll mean basically the end of intersteller war for a good while, and nobody wants that, so nobody shoots at DropShips
>or malfunctions or whatever
also obscenely rare; if you can get your hands on a DropShip, you can afford the mechanics to keep it in top shape, and the parts are next to nothing; a full set of replacement parts, enough to rebuild a dropper from a empty shell is 2-3% of the cost of a new ship. also, Battletech units are built to *LAST*; you could leave a DropShip innawoods for 300 years, find it, refuel it and fly off, no maintenance necessary. shit's tough, man
