Rainbow Warriors are one of the lost legions.
Their loss of status as a first founding chapter is a ret-con both in the fluff and in real life because their name was so godawful.
Back when GW was funny.
Dubs confirm.

This might be a dumb question, but do Flying monstrous creatures still get jink saves when they are gliding? In the rule book it just said that move like Jump Monstrous Creatures. I'm afraid I missed somethin.

This is a good box. It's also very powerful. Don't know how useful the big spider walker will be but it should be usable in the primary Necron army once you get some more models.

You might run this mini-army permanently regardless, in addition to your primary Necron army since it's so strong. Whenever the warriors or scarabs die they respawn next to the leader.

Read the codices from the Mega in the OP, see if you still like that faction after.

Buy the Firespear, then work your way up to your choice of a Battle Company, Pinion Company, or.. Whatever the fuck the White Scars battle company equivalent is.

Seriously, they're a great, fluffy way to actually build the core of your army. Even if you aren't doing the FULL gladius, having a demi company lying around pretty much solves your issue of what you need for general purposes. Everything else is support and assistance to that core.

I had an Apoc game like... 3 weeks ago? It was at 9000 points, consisting of the entirety of my collection, against two armies mustered up by some of my friends.

We ended up using Planetary Exterminatus, but gave up handling it after 3 turns straight of Virus Bombing required entirely too much of not killing each other, and the 4th turn rolled Incendiary Atmosphere. My space marines ended up gloriously holding the line and killing all of the orks, and my Deredeo; Ancient Valentine, solo'd a squadron of 3 hell drakes. Then the game rapidly devolved into ~6000 remaining points worth of space marines shooting at 6 invisible daemon prince... PLUS Kharne babysitting 20 invisible khornechosen, and not doing anything.

Lysander finished off a Stompa that my oathsworn knight chipped 9 hull points off of. And then he lived just long enough to kill Ghazkhull, before a Black Mace daemon prince cast some kind of toughness draining power, and then he failed his toughness save, then his whole hammernator squad wiped.

Oh my god, it was just.. A huge mess of tiny battles everywhere from a ridiculous number of characters. And MURDERWINGS ate 400 points worth of chosen all by himself too. Before getting kersplatted by a chainfist from the Sorcerer Lord.

Hello all, I'm wondering whether I should buy the Start Collecting! Skitarii, or Necrons.

I am a new player, if this changes your opinion in any way.

Hm? I'm sorry, I meant the general theme of how they looked, never got too far into their lore.
>>
>>46381876

Play Skitarii. The Adeptus Mechanicus requires as many soldiers as possible to secure knowledge for the Omnissiah, at all costs.

>Praise the Omnissiah!
>>
>>46383011
Why's that? Destroyer lord seems fun.
>>
>>46383127

Necrons are the stronger and better race for beginners. They also have the strongest Start Collecting formation in the game.

Skitarii aren't a bad army but they're harder to paint, harder to play, and you'll need Mechanicus or Space Marine help to really be complete on the table.

If you like the way Skitarii look, get Skitarii. If not, get Necrons.
>>
>>46383255
Those points are better spend on other units, a necron overlord is already almost indestructible as it is.

Yes, this is what I wanted to know, but more specific, anon. I also wish to know the same of an orc, tau and eldar.
>>
>>46383385
Do you have the codex? If not look at the links, you'll wan t more killer robots, and for beginners the decurion is a very forgiving way of starting, the problem with this formation is that is too over powered, but it'll allow you to get to know your units, ignore the monolith for now, just get more warriors and immortals with their respective transports as your core, then you can try other units, like doomsday barges, wraiths, bikes etc.

Outright avoid the monolith and the flayed ones.
>>
>>46383523

Starting an eldar army. Are wraith lords and Wraithguard worth taking?
>>
>>46383523
Potentially immortal. Nobody actually knows because no space marine as no space marine has ever died of old age. The general consensus is that they're immortal, or at least have a lifespan so impractically long that they're guaranteed to die gloriously before they ever die of old age.
>>
>>46383590
A marine will live for as long as he's not killed in battle or suffering from bad geneseed. No Ork has died from old age, Eldrad is 10,000 years old and he's getting close to becoming crystal, Vect and Urien are even older than Eldrad.
>>
>>46383590
It isn't really known. Because they are all warriors they don't get a chance to die of old age. IIRC space marines have made it upwards of a millenia without dying. Much longer then that, if you count being installed in a Dreadnought as alive.

I think orks are much the same way. You either live long enough to become Warboss, or die trying.

Tau don't make it to a century, iirc.

I couldn't say for eldar. I don't know that I've ever heard a figure.
>>
>>46383590
I believe Eldar are biologically immortal? As in, they don't age or die of old age, but do die if they're killed.
Tau live to about 50 IIRC.

I think it's pretty clear by this point that no-one on the development team really cares about Orks. But if you're not interested in a particular faction, and you're told to write rules for it, it's not really surprising that you churn out a copy-pasted, uninspired, bland mess.

I've heard this argument that Nature isn't really natural anymore. Like that the definition of nature was something about the common aspects of the world, but forests and shit aren't common any more. Man-made unnatural structure are technically nature because they make up the majority of the environment.

It was some weird fucking quasi-philosophical argument that is probably basically full of shit

Scope the Mega for the codex & see which units look cool. Also, check which formations look fun.

Personal recommendations: Wraiths for fast melee, Deathmarks for assassinating GMCs since Eldar are OP faggottons. Destroyer Lords also spread Preferred Enemy (Shit with a Pulse) to any unit they join.

So, my buddy is playing Blood Angels, and kinda fluffy. I'm picking up a Tau army. We're playing our first game in a few weeks. What are his chances? What kinda shit can I bring that is competitive against Blood Angels with Dante and Sanguinary Guard but isn't going to completely cheese dominate?

If you're just starting, don't worry about it. Tau is an army that rewards mastery and investment, and Blood Angels are an army that are fairly simple to pick up and play. Everything will balance itself out in time.

>>46385334
Avoid any Monstrous creature suits. That should probably be enough. Other than that, just don't try and min-max too hard and you'll be fine.

He's kind of excited to face at least one riptide, but I don't think he comprehends the rules, yet. He wants me to get a fucking stormsurge.

I've got x2 Riptides, a Yvarha, 6 crisis suits, 2 piranha, 2 broadsides, 1 pathfinder box, 2 oldschool firewarrior boxes, x1 sniperdrones + contents Burning Dawn (nother Pathfinder, Ethereal, nother Piranha, Stealth Unit) + contents Start Collecting (another 3 crisis, nother ethereal, new firewarrior box), along with at least one of each GW Tau Character, an O'Ralai, and about 60+ Ebay drones (Drones were for a special project). No Suit commander other than Farsight/Shadowsun/ORalai.

I got most of these before I knew Tau were this fucking rude. So that's a no on at least one riptide and the flamejettide. Probably no Shadowsun. He's probably got 2000 points more of Blood Angels/Grey Knights than I do of Tau. Should I just give him a handicap? Seriously.

No army is point and assault any more, doubly so versus Tau. Try and point and assault and you just get gunned down or fold against whatever you do hit when you get there.

BA need finesse and clever tactics, as well as min-maxing to hell and back, to stand a snowball's chance in hell against Tau. The Tau player just has to sit there in their deployment zone and the toughest tactical decision they have to make is what to spend their markerlight tokens on.

If you find the models equally attractive, go with the necrons. Here is why.

You can put a table-worthy paint job on a necron army in a weekend. Prime black, drybrush silver or brass, paint some cloth whatever you want. Declare victory.

The admech have a much higher level of painting difficulty and if you are new to the hobby you will fuck them up to the point of embarassment.

If you plan to not paint your army, you should just stick to vidya. Nobody likes greyfags, so save your money.

The point of a distraction is usually that it can do something scary.

As for list, how about something ....unorthodox
1850 pts
Astra Militarum CAD

Enginseer 40pts
Lord Commissar 65pts Warlord
Veterans 60
Veterans 60
Warhound Titan ->2 laser destructors 720pts

2nd Astra Militarum CAD
Lord Commissar 65pts
Veterans 60
Veterans 60
Warhound Titan ->2 laser destructors 720pts

There you go: 40 Veterans 2 Lord Commissars to prevent them from running away
2 Warhound Titans and 1 Enginseer because I had 40pts left over.
Battleplan:
Deploy the warhounds medium proximity but far enought that one blowing up does not kill the other, shoot the stuff that has D weapons first
Either use the guardsmen to advance upfield or in case of wraithguard with that D-flamer wrap a protective shield around them.

Where is your god now, eldar?
Biggest disadvantage: Most will probably not allow 2 titans in a 1850 game.

Librarian. Always take a Librarian. Always worth it.
Terminators. They get the job done. PAGK never go in the troops slot.
Purifiers. A unit of 10, dropped in a rhino and combat squadded. Daemons like to horde up, and Purifiers solve hordes - plus it gives you 4 special weapon slots to fill with either incinerators (for more anti-horde) or Psycannons (for anti-MC)
>>
>>46386019
That sound awesome. I want to play a 6 Tervagon list at 1500. Mostly to see if I can spawn units faster then my opponent can remove them.

So i've got two armies that i'm looking at starting /tg/. Khorne Daemonkin and Dark Eldar.

what percentage of your army deep striking is too much?

If I have to keep my main bulk of turns in reserve and still deep strike my deep strikers there is no way I will have the model mass to survive an alpha strike

>>46387632
I vote Dark Eldar.
They're tricky, but fun. I'm a pretty terrible player, but I've managed to pull of a win or two with them so they're definitely not so challenging as to be impossible.
The models are very cool, and the play style of wrong-footing and dissecting your opponent is really interesting.
Also, they get points for not being variant marines, while also not being uber crazy power level like Tau and Craftworld Eldar.
Downsides:
Some of your units aren't even going to get to deploy, they'll just die when the Raider blows up. It's a fact of life.
The models, while beautiful, are fragile and difficult to transport. Invest in a nice carrying case, for real.
Most recent 'dex has... problems. Things are nice and streamlined, but a lot of choices (Wyches) are just poor now. I know it's blasphemy, but I do think they could use a few tweaks here and there just to make them a *bit* easier to play.
Oh, and remember that now Power From Pain means you want to HOLD BACK as long as possible, when earlier wisdom was to try to hit your opponent hard on the first few turns and run away.
>>
>>46387724
>hold back as long as possible

>>
>>46387347
Depends on how you play them.

Play them in a CAD and they're upper mid tier. That shows up a lot at my FLGS.

Play them using the formations, or in the Decurion detachment, and they're frustratingly powerful. Some say broken. Others say competitive.

I say 'free army-wide 4+ FNP saves'. Make of that what you will.
>>
>>46387765
This. The special rules later on are nice, but they're there to help you clean up. With Dark Eldar you want to use your speed and mobility to get in quick and hit them before they get the chance to hit you.
>>
>>46387717
csm@1000pts

I planned originally for a third of the army points-wise to be deep striking

exact list with points breakdown is on my other machine, but it was:

FNP bolter blob with rhino that they don't fit inside, followed along by a poverty lord to grant fearless and fulfill CAD
3 squads of cultists
3 man combi-melta termicide
3 obliterators, each as a separate unit so they can engage separate targets

general strategy is cultists hold objectives while the marines wander around trading fire. As long as the S8 is kept away FNP marines are pretty tough, so the terminators and oblits are supposed to take that out. The rhino attracts fire and will just die, but it is high converted and the visual centerpiece for the army so I don't really want to get rid of it.

the list also lacks psychic support and any source of skyfire
>>
>>46387632
Wait a bit for DE.
Currently people asked GW a lot of rule questions to clarify (on their facebook). One of them is very important. Can passengers shoot normally out of a anti-grav vehicle if it jinks.

Jinking means the vehicle tries to dodge the shot, meaning you get a save against it, at the drawback of the vehicle only hitting on a 6.

DE should always be in a vehicle and they jink alot. Currently it is assumed the passengers hit normally, but the ruling may change that. This would sort of break the neck of DE.

Furthermore they are said/rumored to get a new codex soonish, but then rumors are not reliable. And unlike many, they currently do not have a Start Collecting box which would be cost-saving.

No other army has jinking transports where people shoot out of in that amount.

The only transports that come to mind are
Harlequin starweaver but harlies rarely shoot to that extend
Necron Ghost-arc far more durable than a DE transport so less incentive to, also necrons do not rely on transports to that extend
Space Marine Land Speeder Storm but again SM do not rely on that and it is rarely used as a gunboat en masse

Make Warbosses bigger. They should be right on the edge between infantry and MC. Toughness 6 would put him above Nobs, and 4 wounds is plenty reasonable if a Tau Commander gets it. Then add more melee weapons to their list. Let them loot power weapons at the very least.
