He draws on a prehistoric etheric sort of magic lifeforce not just dinosaurs, but dinosaurs are kind of his primary target. The fossil fuels are actually the least efficient source of it but also the more common one to stumble into a this point. Prior to the collapse he was a museum burgler and cryptozoologist. Also I meant to say Paleontologist, not archeologist.

Been raised by the old and venerable tainted Tortoise Collector name "Skalman" since "Gnistan" at a very young age was deemed a filthy tainted, Mutant, by the other hare-kin and abondened by his parrents and even severly harassed by some of his own kind. Background: Mom was an orc, Dad was human, they were in love. Then mom died and dad moved back with her to civilization where they hated her for being half orc. She fled and went into the woods to train as a ranger (she wanted to be a magic user but didn't believe she was smart enough). Eventually she got good at overcoming beasts. By then the town had gotten wind that she was something special and basically begged and sucked up to her to come back. She did come back with her animal companion but soon realized her victory in winning the love of the townspeople was pyrrhic victory because they only loved her when she killed for them and frankly the beasts were much better loyaler friends to her then the townsfolk. She went back into the wilderness and became an adventurer. (and yes I know that's more then 20 words she has a complex backstory).
