Why didn't WotC keep this Orc design for DnD?
I really prefer it over everything looking like a 40k/Warcraft kind of orc.
It's how I describe them when using them in a game.
I strongly prefer old Warcraft orcs
WoW Orcs and 40k Orks are too hulked out or something
the same goes for goblins
it looks a lot like OTHER goblins while being a lot different
>>46345289
i like the current designs, but yes there is a lot less physical diversity in today's Warcraft orcs
but i guess i want to see each setting with a truly unique version of its orcs
>>46345301
Pathfinder goblins are infuriatingly cartoony looking.
>>46345289
I remember when Grom Hellscream was described to be a skinny, almost wiry looking, orc who just had extremely loud voice and force of personality. Even the Warcraft 3 design was less muscular than Thrall but by the time he showed up in WoW they just made him as huge as the other orcs.
4e orcs don't look that bad. Sort of half way between.
How do they look in 5e?
>>46345344
i kind of like them, because they're unique in many ways
but yes, they lack anything truly sinister. even en masse i'd find them more adorable than a threat.
WH goblins tread that line between cartoony and scary, which I like
>>46345493
like this and i dont like it
becoming just an every day WoWhammer orc without any of the Orks horrifying comedy or the savage nobility of the Draenor Orcs
>>46345522
Damn.
Really the biggest difference is in the amount of facial hair and the shape of the nose.
>>46345289
>those chaos stars
>>46345604
and size/shape of Tusks
Should orcs always be green?
>>46345605
The chaos star was around before warhammer 40k, anon.Although Blizzard has certainly never used it, as far as I'm aware.
>>46345691
some kinds, sure
but i really like the more beastmen version of orcs.
the one i posted originally is my favorite orc by design, not entirely by lore
OP, you better have distilled the true essence of what makes an orc an orc by the time I wake up.
>>46345794
smelly armpits and battle axes
WotC has been pandering to WoW kiddies ever since they killed 3.5.
>>46345824
Smelly armpits, eternal swamp ass, and horrid dental.
>>46345861
and a love for meat
if it wasnt for the swampass, id sign up
>>46345204
>>46345301
Don'y like how they have no nose, like a skull.
>>46345691
Pale green, mustard yellow, brick red.
Not so bright or vibrant. It's not like most humans have especially brightly colored skin.
>>46345522
Reminds me of a WoW hobgoblin
>>46345289
>>46345344
>oldschool WC
My nigga.
Fuck WoW's cartoonification of everything.
>>46345691
No, they should be grey.
>>46345695
I know the Elric series popularized it, but was it around before then?
I actually prefer Orcs to look menacing and ferocious, but I hate for the default appearance to be unkempt or filthy
>>46347530
Sumerians
LotR orcs best orcs
>>46347657
This. They look outright demonic. Like a bastardisation of vampires, undead, demons and orcs.
>>46347523
Eugh. That's really only good if you want the Orcs to look clammy-skinned.
>>46347657
No way, The Hobbit had the best Orcs
>>46350457
Those are goblins.
>>46345344
Doomhammer used to look so cool. That later sketch Metzen did of him is such a downgrade.
I wish Orcs would stop getting bigger and bigger, the ones in the WoW film trailer are comedic in how retarded they look. And are pretty much Ogre sized.
The LotR goblin to Uruk-Hai size continuum is best.
>>46345204
I dunno, but I do know that those shitty big-upper-lip orcs started in the Dungeon Command board game, after 4e was dead on its feet but before 5e came out. That's a weird time to be redesigning a race. And I think tieflings also took their current form in between editions, between 3e and 4e with Age of Worms.
>>46350952
They haven't changed proportions at all, they've just gotten more detailed. But what works in Warcraft 2 or 3 becomes absurd at a higher level of graphics. Like, imagine if the Final Fantasy 7 remake still kept Cloud's Popeye-like proportions from the original PS1 game.
>>46351840
>They haven't changed proportions at all,
You are wrong.
>>46350718
Not really a difference in that setting.
Generational gap/regional naming convention, like the difference between negro and coloured.
