Should I build Grixis Delver or BUG Delver in legacy? I cant tell which I like more.
>>
Ideal changes to the B/R list? Nothing.

Expected? Lodestone golem. For no good reason
>>
Am I the only one who feels nostalgic for Mercadian Masques? I loved the flavor and atmosphere of that set.
>>
>>46347834

I liked the art, but as someone who was 13 and was gifted a booster box of the fucking expansion instead of any Urza's block one, I was pissed enough to stop playing the game for almost a decade.

I wish survival of the fittest were unbanned, but i just like the promo versiĆ³n so i can't afford it

I love the Masques art. My Masques basics are some of my favorite. I really hate the art direction the game has taken

I actually found a treasure trove of shit in my old box of cards, recently. City of traitors, Force of Will, shit like that.

Really? I'll post the good shit I can find, although its mostly singles - I'm not pulling a playset of wastelands out of my ass or something.
>>
>>46345017
So these decks are made of cards you all physically own, or on MTGO, or just lists constructed for cockatrice and stuff?
>>
Do I buy MPR Wastes for 600 quid?
>>
>>46350596
No, get tempest wastes

Foils are for tiny dick chinamen
>>

>>
Is it just me or are expeditions anti-pimp? I've never seen a deck with expeditions and been wowed
>>
>>46345017
Those alters are beautiful. My God.

>>46352047
I agree. Expeditions are for the most part unimpressive. I'd rather have pack foils any day of the week, and the price of OG foils show that we aren't alone.

As for recent purchases, I'm a Legacy player. I've got UWr Miracles and Shardless BUG built, and recently picked up some Japanese Dazes and some Ravnica Bobs for BUG
Delver.
>>
>>46352120
I just got 2 forces, venilion and some german black border bolts. I'm trying to have grixis and BUG Delver built.

How has bob been for you in BUG? I switched to tombstalker, it's served me pretty well
>>
>>46353265
My Bobs actually replaced Tombstalkers. Overall, I think I prefer the Bobs. Drawing cards is my addiction.
>>
>>46353342
>>46353265

I've been running into tons of midrange. 5/5 flyers have been my anti-ground stall.

New forces, first big legacy staple I haven't traded for
>>
>>46353484
Yep.

>>46353486
Those look much nicer than my beat-up HP ones. I like HP cards, personally, though, especially if they're older. It's just part of that "old card feel" for me. It's also nice that they're a little easier on the wallet, though.
>>
>>46353614
I usually look for HP or straight up damaged. This was $100ish for 2 forces, so the price was right.

What's the best place to get beat to shit cards?
>>
>>46349499
What is sea stompy?
>>
>>46352047
>I've never seen a deck with expeditions and been wowed

It's because the pieces of art done for them are generally unimpressive. I could tell you what a KtK or ONS Bloodstained Mire looks like, but who the fuck knows what how a ZEK Bloodstained Mire appears. The same goes for pretty much every other expedition out there.

>I wasn't particularly wowed by the KTK art. The flooded strand was alright, but the rest of them left a lot to be desired.

It's true that they weren't better than the ONS ones, but at least they were distinct. The ZEK ones are artless.

Also in general it's hard to beat Rob Alexander land art in the first place.

>>
>>46354257
I'll agree with that, with the exception of the ZEK Misty. That art isnt actually that bad. The rest of them are shit though.

I have felt like the more digital they go and the more centralized their art direction is, the worse the sets tend to look.
>>
>>46352047
Ancient Tomb is solid, but I've already got a playset of the cooler originals. Eye of Ugin is alright too. The rest don't do much at all, especially "different arrangements of hedrons somehow equal fetches and shocks".

>>
>>46357820
Im really happy that you can enjoy the new art. It isn't objectively bad, but the process is one which I personally do not have as much respect for. Making digital models is cool, but a good number of old cards were actually paintings. I find that more interesting than putting it together in a program.

What are you running in your sideboard?

Im between
2 thoughtseize
1 disfigure
1 dismember/murderous cut (cant decide)
1 Darkblast
1 engineered plague
2 Golgari Charm
1 sylvan library
1 pithing needle
1 grafdiggers cage
1 Surgical extraction
1 Liliana of the veil

Then for the last two slows Im stuck between 2 spell pierce and 1 extra surgical and a painful truths. Is spell pierce worth having in the sideboard?
>>
I wish I could get back into this game. Being a student drains too much money as it is. Resorting to playing Hearthstone because it's a lot cheaper.

I might sell a bunch of my shit this summer just to get back into it. I heard modern was the same price range as standard a while back. Is this still true? Should I get into modern or stick with standard?
>>
>>46362059
Check this site to see the metagame and deck prices: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/modern#paper. It can be adjusted to show paper prices or Magic Online prices. Modern has become very expensive over the past few years. Currently, Modern is being dominated by Eldrazi decks, but there will most certainly be a banning next week to weaken it. Standard will rotate in a couple weeks, and the average deck cost should drop since the fetchlands are rotating out.

>>
>>46362059
You're in the eternal thread, so I say play Legacy.

Look near you for a store that runs unsanctioned proxy/playtest events for legacy or vintage. Build your way to a deck slowly, and get to play what you want without sinking a grand into it first.
>>
>>46346603
BUG is more fun IMO and can more easily become shardless if you decide to change later.
>>
>>46358029
Yeah, I'm pretty surprised at all this shit.
>>
>>46357820
I find the old card frames, especially on lands and artifacts, look more elegant than the newer ones. I play with KTK fetches though, because I'm a shitter, and they're cheaper.
>>
>>46346603
Do you want to hit hard or go wide? Do you want to play pyro + bolt or tarmo + decay?

I just love playing pyro on board. Probe the hand and destroy it with double cabal therapy.
>>
>>46367324
Im pretty happy with both decks. BUG delver just feels like its closer to 50% against most of the field, and opening on T1 Deathrite T2 Hymn wasteland is probably the most fun way to ruin someones day
>>
So... How much of a 'that guy' would I be to buy into eldrazi right now. Seems like the time to do it IMO.

Anyone need playset of "simian spirit guide"? Sorry for the bad language. And another question - do you have active pauper players in your city? Maybe you make kind of tournaments.

Depends on your local meta. If there are a lot of miracles players it's going to be miserable. Otherwise, it's a fun deck and worth trying

So Im thinking about building bant deathblade for legacy.

21 Land
--------
4 Flooded Strand
2 Windswept Heath
1 Polluted Delta
2 Trop Island
2 Tundra
1 Underground Sea
1 Savannah
1 Bayou
1 Forest
1 Island
1 Plains
4 Wasteland

16 Dudes
------
4 DRS
3 Noble Hierarch
3 Knight of the Reliquary
2 TNN
4 Stoneforge

23 Spells
------
4 Brainstorm
4 Swords
4 FoW
3 JtMS
3 Daze
1 Counterspell
1 Spell Pierce
1 Batterskull
1 Jitte
1 Sword of Fire and Ice

Im not sure what to do with the SB I figure Thalia, Cannonist, Flusterstorm, RIP, Path, and abrupt decay will be in it though. Also is fire and ice the right choice of swords? Light and shadow gives me protection from swords to plowshares and abrupt decay.
>>
>>46368007
NO Elves. What's chaos Elves?

>>46368020
That was my thought. Plus all those modern players are dropping the deck so now is the time.
>>
>>46370444
SoFi has a better effect.

My problem with deathblade is that the mana is shit. The deck runs powerful cards, but god that mana base is awful
>>
>>46372286
I mean I have seven fetches and seven dorks. On top of that the knights can help with fixing and acceleration.
>>
when a flying creature blocks a non-flying creature does the flyer take damage?
>>
>>46372276
1 [FUT] Dryad Arbor
1 [UNH] Forest
1 [TSP] Pendelhaven
1 [R] Savannah
1 [ZEN] Verdant Catacombs
2 [R] Bayou
2 [AVR] Cavern of Souls
3 [KTK] Wooded Foothills
4 [US] Gaea's Cradle
4 [KTK] Windswept Heath
1 [ON] Birchlore Rangers
1 [AVR] Craterhoof Behemoth
1 [LRW] Gaddock Teeg
1 [C14] Reclamation Sage
1 [M14] Scavenging Ooze
1 [] Shaman of the Pack
1 [C14] Wren's Run Packmaster
2 [C14] Llanowar Elves
3 [MOR] Heritage Druid
3 [EVE] Nettle Sentinel
3 [VI] Quirion Ranger
4 [RTR] Deathrite Shaman
4 [] Elvish Visionary
4 [SC] Wirewood Symbiote
1 [5E] Sylvan Library
1 [UL] Crop Rotation
4 [CHK] Glimpse of Nature
4 [MBS] Green Sun's Zenith
SB: 2 [RTR] Pithing Needle
SB: 1 [WL] Null Rod
SB: 1 [LG] Karakas
SB: 3 [JU] Cabal Therapy
SB: 3 [RTR] Abrupt Decay
SB: 2 [THS] Thoughtseize
SB: 1 [DKA] Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
SB: 2 [NPH] Surgical Extraction

Its Julian Knabs new list. The idea is to be more of a grind deck, and use rebuying shaman of the pack to push damage and wrens run packmaster as anti miracles/midrange. Gaddock teeg also shores up the miracles and storm matchups.

Its an interesting list that's worth checking out
>>

I understand that, but the mana is still really bad. Full esper stoneblade has gotten more popular for that reason. 1/3rd of your lands can't cast noble, in my experience it makes the deck less consistent and makes wasteland a much bigger treat.

If you enjoy the deck, build it. Just keep stoneblade in mind.
>>
>>46372653
You can discard it to thirst for knowledge.

I don't think you play stompy decks to not be excessive.

hey awesome to see an eternal thread. i've been gone for a month or two, last time i was here there was only ever the modern thread.

anyway, my store has finally developed a legacy scene and so I get to play RUG delver in paper. my meta is exactly:

2-3 miracles
1 ANT or BUG delver
2 elves
1 belcher (srs)
1 shardless bug

what's the best sb configuration?

i'm currently running:

1 sylvan library
1 misdirection
2 submerge
1 sulfuric vortex
1 null rod
1 blurred mongoose
2 destructive revelry
1 rough // tumble
1 life from the loam
1 surgical extraction
1 flusterstorm
2 pyroblast

i'm running 2 dismember and 2 forked bolt for the flex slots. should i move the pyroblasts to the main? what do you guys think? i'm newish to legacy but i love this deck. maybe i should cut the misdirection, but i'm a sucker for cute shit and i couldn't pass up the chance to steal an ancestral.
>>
>>46361692
2x Spell Pierce
2x Disfigure
2x Surgical extraction
2x Golgari Charm
1x Vendillion Clique
1x Flusterstorm
1x Pithing Needle
1x Grafdigger's Cage
1x Toxic Deluge
1x Sylvan Library
1x Engineered Explosive

I haven't played with Painful Truths yet so I don't really know much about its worth. How do you like Engineered Plague? I imagine it would be really good vs Goblins and Elves. Do you think it would be better to run over Toxic Deluge?
>>46362059
Just get some chinaman proxies. They are impossible to tell the difference when double sleeved. I have a playset of beta duals and everyone thinks they are real at my LGS.
http://i.imgur.com/MFZ43BY.png
>>
>>46374721
If you want to be cute with mis-d, I like divert better. Its also a more efficient counter to hymn to tourach and abrupt decay. I'm also a big fan of spell pierce in the flex slots, it's really good against ANT, belcher can't beat it. It's also better against miracles. I'd switch the destructive revelry to k grips, it's going to be a bit better against miracles. Without it, you HAVE to fight counterbalance on the stack, or stick a sulfuric vortex. I might also try to go for 2 pyro sb /1 REB main with that much miracles.

RUG is a good deck, there are a lot of ways to tweak it.
>>
>>46373666
Its my tertiary deck that I'll pretty familiar with. The list is worth trying, getting Teeg out will actually win g1 against storm.

>>46374555
Its not as good against goblins. I don't see it enough to be a big deal, and it is still possible to set up big glimpse turns.

Its better at grinding out bad matchups, Wrens Run Packmaster is hard to kill. Combined with a cradle it can actually run away with a game.

>>
>>46376025
Plague vs Deluge is close. Deluge is better against more decks, but Plague is able to stop new creatures from coming into play. I face a lot of elves, once it resolves they can't do much until they hit a rec sage. Its also a holdover from when I had bobs/true names in the deck and wanted to avoid the splash damage so it might be time to switch over.
>>
>>46376025
What are you boarding in spell pierce against?
>>
>>46376778
That's some nice tech. I hear Elves has a bad match up against Strom so that's pretty great. I'm currently running red, and to be honest it really doesnt do much. I hope gaddok teeg still isn't 60 dollars or what ever it was a few months ago.
>>
>>46376967
I like black, but white does have utility. Teeg isn't that bad pricewise, and does work against terminus as well
>>
>>46377112
I run black as well. Sorry, I thought that was implied. I need to update my deck. I don't even have shaman of the pack. What other decks do you play?
>>
>>46377394
BUG and Grixis delver, Storm, shardless and Aluren. The old elves build is still good, the new one just equalizes the matchups

Do you just run a standard decklist? I'm kind interested in Death and Taxes
>>
Is anyone else going to try invasive surgery in Delver? It actually seems like it might be good
>>
>>46394844
How does that work?
>>
>>46397139
Its an envelop, which has already seen play. Against combo, a one mana hard counter is pretty good, even if the other half of the card never comes online. Against miracles, it's better able to counter terminus than spell pierce or flusterstorm, and will have the occasional extract effect. Its best against Lands, extracting loam a lot of the time. Lands is a really tough matchup, so I want to see how it performs there.

I've been somewhat away from Legacy for the last few months. How is the format going there?

What do people think will happen in Legacy and Vintage for the ban list this Monday?
>>
>>46399148
There's been some talk of Survival of the Fittest being unbanned in Legacy and something from MUD being restricted in Vintage.
>>
>>46399205
I really hope nothing changes in Vintage. I feel like it's really balanced at the moment.
>>
>>46399272
Gush players are butthurt because somehow running 14 lands and 3 cards that cause you to bounce lands is really soft to mana denial
>>
>>46400320
Yeah I know, and they never understand why their 5 cards in the sideboard just for this MU didn't work.

Also fuck Sam Black.
>>
>>46391517
yes it is but you can do it senpai
>>
>>46400383
Sam "opinions about a format I dont play" Black.
>>
>>46400383
Everytime I ghost quarter someone and they don't pick up their library l, I can see why these people might bitch about shops. Sorry, but that one basic off the sideboard isn't going to cut it

Is anyone else looking forward to watching Brassman and Brian Kelly dismantle Tom Martel in the VSL play in?

Song of the dryads on a creature. The creature becomes a forest. It is no longer a creature correct?

I just argued this for like 5 minutes on cockatrice.
>>
>>46404710
It stops being a creature
>>

Ah yeah, that one is pretty neat. I also kind of dig the Godless Shrine being the skeleton of an Eldrazi, but that's legitimately it.

>In fact, i almost always sereach for the most recent print of a card.
That's totally fine, I wouldn't ever hate on someone for liking more recent stuff. I'm pretty much the opposite of you there - I like to get older card frames and first printings wherever possible simply because I'm into older fantasy art of the 80's/90's and enjoy that aesthetic more.

>>46355019
Flooded Strand is neat, no arguments there.

Just bought a fuckton of blue and blue/green cards. Shamblesharks, thornwood falls, that sort of thing. Now I gotta decide if I wanna stick with a RG deck or switch between that and a UG deck...

Apparently these things don't pass the UV test. You can't scan them.

I just bought an intro deck (Vicious Cycle) to learn how to play with a new friend of mine. Any advice on how to play?

Learn the steps of the game. Untap, Upkeep, Dra,w Main Phase 1, Combat, Main Phase 2 and End Step.
Understand how the Combat Step works.
Understand basic rules of the game. I.e. taping for mana and mechanics of cards like delve and cascade.

What legacy staples do I need to collect to be able to build anything?
>>
>>46407895
Don't play legacy as a beginner

Do I keep building Canadian Threshold or is that deck outdated?
>>
>>46409441
The deck has been the same for a while, it's a bit outdated. Its still powerful and quite able to win games. What pieces of it do you have

>>46376868
I kinda like it. Works when there's still intact damage on certain spots, keeps it from looking as much like a proxy.
>>
>>46409612
I have everything but forces, volcanics and tropical islands
>>
>>46409319
It's much cheaper to pick a deck you want to play and build toward it.
