What was the exact purpose of the Primarchs?

Why did the Emperor even bother to create a bunch of "sons" when he could've simply skipped the middle-man create the Space Marines directly (like he previously did with the Adeptus Custodes and Thunder Warriors)?

And were the Primarchs supposed to juxtapose each other, being mirror/counterparts/rivals to one another, if so, what purpose would that serve the Emperor? For instance:

> Horus --------------- Emperor
> Leman Russ------- Angron
> Ferus Manus------ Vulkan
> Fulgrim--------------Sanguinius
> Rogal Dorn---------Perturabo
> Guilliman------------Alpharius/Omegon
> Magnus--------------Lorgar
> Lion-------------------Mortarion
> Konrad---------------Corvus
> Jaghatai-------------Missing Primarch(s)

And is it also a coincidence that all the (protagonist) traitor primarchs are the literal incarnation of the seven deadly sins?

> Horus = Vanity/Greed
> Fulgrim = Lust
> Perturabo = Envy
> Angron = Warth
> Mortarion = Gluttony (Nurgle's consumption, etc)
> Magnus = Sloth (failure to act)
> Lorgar = Pride

in contrast to:

> Emperor = Temperance
> Sanguinius = Humility
> Vulkan = Kindness
> Guilliman = Patience
> Dorn = Diligence
> Lion = Chastity
> Ferus = Charity

Does this fits the great scheme of things of the Lore or it's simply detail wanking?

Perhaps the emperor is creating a titanic struggle meant to propel humanity to the next stage of its existence.

Evolution through conflict.

He kept giving his brothers gifts and shit.

Can you blame the man (The Emperor is still a man) for wanting some company? He's been alone ever since the dawn of mankind.

>Why did the Emperor even bother to create a bunch of "sons"

Well all of his biological sons kept turning out to be regular morons with some psychic powers but still unable to get shit done. Maybe he just wanted other superhumans to chill with.

>What was the exact purpose of the Primarchs?

Every ruler needs generals. Every commander needs officers.

>Why did the Emperor even bother to create a bunch of "sons" when he could've simply skipped the middle-man create the Space Marines directly (like he previously did with the Adeptus Custodes and Thunder Warriors)?

He specifically created Astartes and Primarchs because Thunder Warriors were too savage and Custodes were too time-consuming. You're asking why the Emperor decided to make G-Shock watches instead of more Rolexes and suitcase bombs.

>And were the Primarchs supposed to juxtapose each other, being mirror/counterparts/rivals to one another, if so, what purpose would that serve the Emperor? For instance:

This is writer fiat and consequences of their scattering and upbringing. The Emperor may have made Russ wolfy and Magnus a psyker, but he didn't purposely make his sons mortal enemies nor did he send Curze to Nostramo and Corax to Deliverance.
>>
>>46341677
He was also one of the most hard-hearted and severe of the bunch. He made sure not to unify his home planet because he thought peace would make the warring clans soft.
>>
>>46341741
>The Emperor may have made Russ wolfy and Magnus a psyker

Wasn't Lorgar the one directly fabricated as a psyker and Magnus the one that simply came out as one on his own?

The gift of strength is still a gift...

You were a mistake.
>>
>>46341837

Well first editions had a lot of logic.

Then they started hiring random dipshits that had hardons for different Legions/Primarchs/Gods and it all started going to hell.
>>
>>46341855

Besides Corvus, Magnus was pretty much the only one that came out exactly as planned.

Sitting on the fence for too long is what caused him to fail completely.
>>
>>46341828
Shit. I actually can't really argue with that.
>>
the primarchs were supposed to be the space marines, but they got scattered around the galaxy by the chaos gods.
>>
He made the Primarchs to act in his stead while he worked on the webway.

He made them diverse to get multiple different viewpoints on every problem. He didn't want an army of yesmen, he wanted something that could think for themselves and contribute to humanity without his hand holding.

>all the (protagonist) traitor primarchs are the literal incarnation of the seven deadly sins?

They aren't.

>Mortarion=Gluttony

What the Christ? Not even close.

Mortarion's Nurgle corruption fits due to the general style of the legion (chemical warfare etc) but not personality wise, it was nothing they did that drew them on the path of Nurgle, but rather demon flies introduced by Typhus engaging in extreme orifice torture.

What was wrong with Dorn, Russ, Rowboat, Alpharius, and Vulkan?

Huh? I didn't even mention Angron and Lorgar.

Corax didn't land on Deliverance you dumb ass
>>
>>46341516
The reason The Primarcs were created was to lead their respective legions. The Space marines need to follow someone they identify with as one of their own.

Argel Tal describes it indirectly when he is observing Custodians fight. (Paraphrasing) Custodes are Lions and Warrior, They fight without equal but they fight alone. Astartes are Wolves and Soldiers, They fight for their kin and are genetically predisposed to loyalty to their kin.

The Primarchs were bred to be the linchpin for their Son's genetically predestined Loyalty.
>>
>>46342111

Corax landed on Lycaeus, which was renamed Deliverance. What's the problem here.
>>
>>46342528
Deliverance is a stupid name.
