It's a "parasite" that alters the genetic makeup of whatever it attaches to.

It's a bunch of space-bullshit and it can make clones as well as reviving the dead and a bunch of other bullshit.

Said clones copy the technology present at the time of infection, as well. Which is also weird.

It's the "X-Parasite" from the Metroid series. Pretty sure it was only featured in the "Fusion" series.

Basically, /v/ shit on /tg/.

Difficult to quantify X-Parasites seem to run on spacemagic, so the only thing in the universe that can fight them is more spacemagic.
If the magicians can whip up a metroid-analogue to devour them, I think it would lead to a very difficult body-snatcher war. Otherwise they're undefeatable.

So the question is: did the Chozo do something unique to make the metroids, or is it a process that others can manage?

Not him but
>Tyranids are connected by the hivemind
>X-Parasite lacks psychic ability
>X-Parasite only mimics a Tyranid
>Tyranids eat biomass for a living
The parasite wouldn't be able to efficiently mimic a Tyranid and the infected creature's biomass would be eaten, rendering the parasite useless

Or alternatively
The parasite could infect the Tyranids and infect any Tyranids attempting to absorb the biomass
Which then leaves a large number of Tyranids seperated from the hivemind
Literally a single Exterminatus away from being completely terminated

They're a threat in Metroid but this is W40K
Where galaxy-threatening races are a dime a dozen

Also, a single super bounty hunter destroyed the X-Parasite
Pretty sure an army of ultra super-human bounty hunters could probably do a better job
>>
>>46340677
To be fair, the X-parasite is pretty much immune to every form of weaponry save a very specific few.

And a weird flying bug-brain-thing with teeth.

But then you get literal space magic from psykers and they just de-atomize the parasites and that takes care of that.
>>
>>46340677
>The parasite wouldn't be able to efficiently mimic a Tyranid and the infected creature's biomass would be eaten, rendering the parasite useless
... and whatever ate it is now infected.
Killing the host organism just releases the pure X parasite to infect anew.
Also the free X parasites seem to be immune to damage. Shooting them with lasers and missiles, at least, does nothing.
Destruction on the level of blowing up a planet seems to be sufficient to vaporize them, but anything below that is in question.

>Also, a single super bounty hunter destroyed the X-Parasite
By obliterating an entire planet..
>>
>>46340848

Literally every "good guy" in the setting would see that conventional weapons don't work and would just shrug and annihilate the planet from orbit.

Just because there isn't some flashy bang where the entire planet pops like a balloon does not mean there isn't enough energy being released to destroy the planet wholesale.

And no, the X-parasites would not survive that, take your wankery somewhere else.

They also die to extremes of heat, and cannot survive in a vacuum, both of which are caused by an exterminatus.

Fuckin' fanboys, I swear.
>>
>>46341143
>All of them have green skin and are twice their usual size
>>
>>46341220
That is a textbook "scouring the surface". The planet is not destroyed, the planet is a burning hot lava wasteland.
SR388 was not reduced to a wasteland, SR388 was vaporized to cosmic dust.

>And no, the X-parasites would not survive that, take your wankery somewhere else.

I don't know that and neither do you. We don't have data on their tolerances.

>They also die to extremes of heat

At the very least Samus' power bombs do nothing to them. We don't know WHAT extremes of heat are necessary.

>and cannot survive in a vacuum

Unclear and never indicated. Why do you say this? Because they don't try to escape the BSL by spacing themselves? Their goal is to infect and spread as fast as possible, not get spaced for 6 billion years. Jumping into the vacuum of space wouldn't help them.
>>
>>46341361
Actually we do

This is taken from the wiki article for the X-Parasite

>In one event, the X attempted to overheat the Station, which not only could have killed Samus but also themselves. When speculating on the reason for this action, Adam states that the parasites must have felt Samus was a major threat to their entire species on SR388. The sacrifice of the X on board the BSL would have spared their brethren on the planet.

>A station overheating would kill the Parasites on board
That means that
>A complete radioactive scouring of a planet's surface
Would probably do an equally as good if not better job
>>
>>46341460
To that, I say we don't know how hot the BSL can become.
I mean its self destruction is apparently planet-buster level. The power source on that thing must be unthinkable.
>>
>>46341361
>"scouring the surface"

>he says as the insides of the planet are now on the outside, ensuring planetary destruction

I don't think you understand the implications.

>At the very least Samus' power bombs do nothing to them. We don't know WHAT extremes of heat are necessar

however hot the station would get in Fusion to overheat and destroy the station was enough, according to the wiki. And that is significantly less than the temperature a planet would reach both on the surface and internally in the instance of an Exterminatus.

>Their goal is to infect and spread as fast as possible, not get spaced for 6 billion years. Jumping into the vacuum of space wouldn't help them.

And extinction was not their goal, which would have been easily avoidable by spacing themselves, which they didn't do. That alone is evidence enough they can't, because they were willing to suicide the station to kill Samus, instead of just setting the station to blow and then fucking off into space.
>>
Well, at least we can all agree that Samus would beat up a Space Marine.
>>
>>46341507
>>he says as the insides of the planet are now on the outside, ensuring planetary destruction

It'll reform and cool down over the next few million years.
Very different energy scales from death star obliteration.

>And that is significantly less than the temperature a planet would reach both on the surface and internally in the instance of an Exterminatus.

That's just your own speculation. Reasonable, but by no means guaranteed. This is something only the author could declare.

>And extinction was not their goal, which would have been easily avoidable by spacing themselves, which they didn't do. That alone is evidence enough they can't, because they were willing to suicide the station to kill Samus, instead of just setting the station to blow and then fucking off into space.

And if the detonation is halted, Samus is given free reins to destroy them. Ensuring her destruction was far more important, which means staying on the vessel and targeting her even as it gets destroyed.
Since, you know, she's an intelligent and capable individual who manages to halt their attempt at mutual destruction.
>>
>>46341507

Exterminatus isn't all that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEQDWQkGRUA
>>
>>46341483
You should note that Samus merely crashed the station into SR338, she didn't have its reactor explode.

So the planet exploding into space dust wouldn't have happened unless the station was moving at speeds equaling or exceeding that of a projectile fired at a planet from space, of if the station was moving very rapidly at a planet that was barely bigger than it.

So it wasn't a "planet buster" it was either moving REALLY fucking fast, or no one who made the game understood the amount of force you'd need to flat out disintegrate a planet. And good luck doing that without the power of an entire star.
>>
So let's assume that the X-Parasite actually manages to gain a foothold in W40K
Then what?
What happens when the WAAAGH! reaches the planet or all these infected inquisition motherfuckers fail to stop a Daemonic incursion
What happens when the X meets a horde of recently awakened Necrons
Hell, the parasite lacks any kind of soul or psychic ability and would, at the very best need Tau's flight technology to actually travel from planet to planet since the Imperium relies on Psykers and the Warp
Even assuming the Parasite can survive a complete fucking Exterminatus, it's highly doubtful that they'd be able to get far
>>
>>46341693
>You should note that Samus merely crashed the station into SR338, she didn't have its reactor explode.
Yes, she did. Why do you think there was an obligatory countdown timer? Adam rigged it to blow, man. The thrusters explicitly were just to get the planet in the radius of the "vaporization field" of it's detonation. Apparently it's not big enough to reach the whole planet from high orbit, but it is from near-surface.
Maybe actually read the script or something.
>>
>>46341623
>It'll reform and cool down over the next few million years.

The X parasites -all die- in this instance. Jesus Christ, anon.

>This is something only the author could declare.

Or anyone who understands what happens when you impact a planet hard enough to kill the planet, and who understands that is less than the melting point of space-age steel

>And if the detonation is halted, Samus is given free reins to destroy them. Ensuring her destruction was far more important, which means staying on the vessel and targeting her even as it gets destroyed.

They could leave the goddamn planet instead of dying, or get off of the station after the plan fails. They did none of this.
>>
>>46341761
>The X parasites -all die- in this instance. Jesus Christ, anon.

We don't actually know if they starve or anything, or if that would be hot enough to be sufficient.

>Or anyone who understands what happens when you impact a planet hard enough to kill the planet, and who understands that is less than the melting point of space-age steel

Since when was the materials of Metroid's universe ever possibly described? Samus's power bombs, which explicitly can vaporize a power armored human in an instant, does not even slightly melt anything. Again; speculation.

>They could leave the goddamn planet instead of dying, or get off of the station after the plan fails. They did none of this.

They need a space ship to get off the planet, anonymous. Their self-propulsion doesn't beat gravity. Spacing themselves means they just fall back down to SR388 anyway.

Firstly, no. It was Samus' idea, "Adam" only tells her it won't work from high orbit.

Secondly, no, he didn't.
>>
>>46342102
That's Metroids. The X Parasites even expose themselves to extreme cold deliberately so that Samus will die if she tries to absorb them.
>>
>>46342102
no, they aren't affected by that, thats Metroids, anon.

anyways, X-Parasite are the ultimate "conquer pathogen" trumping the FLood and The Thing.

why you ask? X Parasites can replicate Bio-Tech and full on Technology itself.

and they share information in a sort of hive mind, so any intelligence or ability gained is instantly shared across them.

>Or she did it when she was at the command console, where she also changes the orbit of the station, which would be something they would only allow at the equivalent of the "Administrator password" console.
If so, it doesn't say as much. When Samus interacts with that, it says exclusively "Orbit change implemented". It does not say the self-destruct was engaged then. Thus this is only your own speculation.

We know the planet blew up. We know what they say. We don't know that the self-destruct was ever triggered, as it was not shown. Just because there was an explosion is not fool-proof evidence that the self-destruct was triggered. Just that there was an explosion. We know not the cause aside from 'implied evidence'. Which is to say, what the characters say, rather than what the players are shown. Thus without conclusive evidence, we do not know that the self-destruct was triggered.

Well, they can say what they'd like, be we, as the players, are not shown this. As a matter of fact, if I wrote a story, made a game, or film, and left out a critical part, I could say whatever I'd like, that still does not give the players hard-proof what I am saying is true, and basing your evidence of words, however credible you may claim them to be, is wrong and has no real tangible evidence contrary. Genetic engineering is cutting edge but achievable for non-Chozo races.

But Metroids operate by draining "life energy" which is Chozo-exclusive space magic. The Chozo were so much more advanced than everyone else that they discovered how to make machines operate on something like chi despite everyone else in this setting having to mostly obey the laws of physics. Samus's power armor also operates on life energy.

Metroid mostly inserts more adventures between existing ones, so that's no biggie.

I think it's about time for all the hinting that the Galactic Federation is vaguely sinister to come to light and have that be the plot, though. After Fusion, Samus is literally merged with her suit, so they can't confiscate her gear to keep her in check anymore. About time to just declare her a public enemy and try to kill her.
>>
>>46343108

>About time to just declare her a public enemy and try to kill her.

Especially after Samus destroyed a space station. I don't think the general public knew about the X so the federation could paint her as a terrorist. Also they would probably want to capture since she's technically the last metroid now.

I'm pretty sure she was painting as a huge hero after bringing the GF to victory against the Space Pirates (in MP3: Corruption). Turning that hard to make her to be a villain would be pretty hard considering how bad the Space Pirates were in the Metroid universe, especially to human civilizations.

Samus's suit is different now, and how many people even know what she looks like underneath? Just claim she's an imposter or something.
>>
>>46343108
this seems like an incredible mistake, just from a logical look at the facts.

fact, they sent Samus, alone, to various missions, and not only does she succeed, by herself, but most of the planets she comes from, are completely obliterated afterward.

fact, not a single enemy has ever stopped her for more than a small amount.

in what world, would making an enemy of Samus seem rational, considering she seems to be some sort of Space-Bird version of Death itself.
>>
>>46343257
Show tiny bits of footage of Samus vs SA-X (let's say recorded with some spy device), proclaim she killed the "real" Samus?

All you people arguing about Tyranids vs X Parasites are silly, by the way.

Both of these species become more like the thing they eat, and both have traits the other is missing. If they get in a fight, it doesn't matter who "wins" because either way the resulting species is X-Tyranid hybrids, and everyone else loses.

Black comedy gold. Also there's a bunch of scenes like this in the Dyna Blade subgame of Kirby Superstar.

Unfortunately for our black comedy goldmine, I expect Samus would try to minimize casualties. Not that she'd be particularly good at that.
>>
>>46343424
You always hear about this, one super soldier really can't win a war.

If they catch her in space, they have a fleet focus fire, she's dead.

If she's on the ground, they deploy long range weaponry like artillery, and she's dead.

The same is true for literally every "super soldier" situation where the "hero" isn't literally invulnerable. And Samus is notably not invulnerable, and she regularly has her suit/powerups fucked out of her. Sometimes just by getting hit.

It's kind of silly. Against organized military she'd just die, like 99% of everything else.

Samus's shtick is alternating between stealth and having way too damned much firepower. Assuming she survives the initial ambush and goes to ground, things will get really messy.

A very Metroid way for this to play out is a fleet opening fire on her ship, she shinesparks into one of the ships, takes it over, crashes it into the capitol ship, takes that over, and scatters the fleet. (Notwithstanding the fact that, were this a Metroid game, she'd also somehow lose all her powers and regain them during this.)

A reasonable approach would be to surround her ship and open fire with the plan to also fire on any ship that shows signs of everyone freaking out and dying. But that's too genre-savvy.
>>
Die horribly. I mean, it's basically just WWII with some weirdness going on. If we assume it lands where most of the action is happening then the best hope for the survival of humanity is America (surprise surprise)

In this version of the war they actually did build that crazy iceberg fortress idea. Also the war went on much longer so the Roswell landing has already happened. Humanity on Earth survives on the Berg and America throws a bunch of R&D behind an ark to preserve humanity, based on the UFO which landed in Roswell.

As far as how I run the game is concerned, barely brief players beyond letting them know "Ice weaponry yes. VERY YES. SUCH ICE AS YOU CAN FIND." Then send them back as the remnants of humanity, come back to claim their ancestral home.
>>
>>46343624
I don't have to overhype shit, Samus has powers and abilites demonstrated to us that seem so beyond the pale and freakishly insane that it boggles the mind.

So the difference between her and a regular super soldier is the fact that she is now stupidly powerful and kills space gods or elderitch abominations from the ninth dimension. The only time the federation had a chance was around the time of zero mission. Now she is just too powerful. Like she regenerates and recharges her power armor by killing and absorbing the life force of her enemies. Sits in Lava, has a mode where she goes sanic fast through all obstacles. Yeah if you surrounded her with a huge fleet and fired on her you would probably shoot down her ship and only that. 10 hours later she will be ramming her super missles through the fleet commanders rear end on fleet com after having destroyed 3 super battle cruisers.

Uh, no? Your opinion does not a fact make. Strip away all extraneous powers and abilities and go with raw power, DOOMGUY does the most with the least. He doesn't need bird DNA or ultra-power suits. He doesn't need genetics or space-armor. He's a guy who runs as fast as a car and kills every bad guy, including the devil (sort of), with a shotgun.

Just because you're putting arbitrary restrictions on your list so you can fap about your waifu doesn't mean it's correct, anon.

The only reason Samus is any good is because her armor is literally plot armor. Otherwise she'd pretty much just be a character that fits into fights with characters like Hiyabusa or the higher-tier SF characters. Not that that is bad, it's quite good, but it's not DOOMGUY, who can actually use his boots to beat his entire game save for areas where you need to shoot something you can't reach to progress.

It's not a fair comparison because DOOMGUY is pretty much top-tier in terms of bullshit powerlevels entirely of his own abilities. Even if unexplained.

Think of it like this.

There is an ancient alien race that waged war on the entire universe and won. With nothing left to challenge them they became pacifists because everyone's too weak to even bother fighting. Hundreds of years later an alien super parasite comes in and is the first real threat to this alien race ever. So what do they do? They genetically engineer an entire new species of super parasite to combat the first parasite, and it's so effective that it spreads even further than the first parasite ever did.

So what do they do? They take their knowledge of warfare that makes Sun Tzu look like a baby, every weapon they ever developed, their best and most powerful space wizard technology, and their own DNA, and put it all in a young girl to wipe out the second threat they made. Then they achieved true enlightenment and ascended from this reality after creating a literal walking doomsday.

Calling Samus "just a super soldier" is the understatement of the century.

Doomguy's plot armor is much worse than Samus's. Don't confuse real armor for plot armor. Doomguy's plot armor is radiant and invincible, and you're reinforcing it right now.
In any case, Doomguy does not "do the same shit". He guns down things that dies to bullets. He doesn't actually kill energy gods or blow up planets. Satan dies to a rocket launcher, Satan isn't particularly difficult to kill.

I get the impression that Samus and her exploits aren't particularly secret, it's just that she's not a terribly public person, she doesn't advertise her achievements, and everything she's done is so outlandish that there's nothing but wild rumors. And most of the rumors are less crazy than the fact that some quiet chick is the bird-god of death.
>>
>>46344541
Everything but Other M and Pinball can be considered canon. Metroid's timeline isn't some Zelda nonsense.

Zero Mission is the same thing as the first Metroid, expanded to show where the armor Samus has for the rest of the series comes from. Then the Prime series happens, all four games, one of which features Samus going to another galaxy followed by other Hunters. Then Metroid II (the Gameboy game), Super Metroid, and finally Fusion.

Steel was just an example. Guy was literally saying that we can't create a benchmark for comparison because we don't know if element X in Metroid is the same as element X in every other setting. That steel isn't steel, that rocks aren't rocks, that plasma isn't plasma, and that blue slurpees aren't blue slurpees.

He was trying to hide behind a shield of "but you can't possibly know", therefore rendering any speculation (which is all we have) pointless. Guess what? Same applies to all settings but we make do. Metroid is no different.

The only thing doomguy has done is just go to hell 3 times, you do that in diablo man with half as much armor. Samus has a way wider variety of shit accomplished.

>>46344541
Just know this at this point in the Metroid universe Samus and her armor are fused she can take it off but it's like a Guyver suit it is always around her in a pocket dimension that follows her around.
>>46344558
Okay so question, how can a guy that lost to Master Chief be better than a Girl that conquers other dimensions. Also if Samus without her armor was inserted instead of doomguy I think she would do just fine.

Radio? (Or whatever they use for coms in this setting.) I assume the BSL was streaming stuff to the feds during the whole escapade.

Any setting with access to something that can drain "life energy" can handle the X.

They're a threat in Metroid because only Metroids can drain life energy.

Anon, I feel like everyone here is cringing over this. Even Master Chief fans like myself. Right now, there is some Kingdom Hearts fanatic who is cringing over what you just said. Even having no stake in this argument, you have hurt me, anon.

So they're a creature in a sci-fi setting that can wipe out most sci-fi settings.

But take them to a fantasy setting and they die embarrassingly to vampires.

He can't, I killed Satan yesterday and his respawn timer is slow as shit.
>>
>>46344672
Yes. Probably.
The mass of Zebes was listed at 4.8 trillion teratons.
If it were 4.8 billion teratons, it would be rather more sensible and near-Earth.
As it is, it's almost 1000 times more.
>>
>>46344691

>>

Holy shit.

Samus would literally break my dick off without even doing anything.

I would have accepted 94.7 times, personally, but there's something endearing about the idea of Samus lifting five tonnes (metric tonnes, that is) without her armor.

Okay that sounds a bit more reasonable. Because Jesus Christ that's... fuck, that's Neutron Star territory or something.

Noice.
>>
>>46344698
If we're just going by planetary mass, it's still possible that Zebes and Earth have the same gravity. At 1000x mass, it would have the same gravity if Zebes were around 32x as big as Earth. (Think I did the math right on that, but I'm rusty.)

Which would imply Zebes's density is a lot lower than Earth's, but that would explain why the place is cavey as fuck.

That is probably the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard. And those faggots up there were pretty fucking stupid.

Furthermore, for all you know, anon was a child soldier and is the finest fighter in all of the land.

Or maybe anon really isn't real, and he's made a character up that he is using right now.

Or maybe it doesn't fucking matter, because at the end of the day, Samus isn't fucking real.

Chozo: no sense of right or wrong.
>>
>>46349340
Common sense, more like.

I think we might be forgetting something though. Seamus is a bounty hunter and saboteur, not a soldier. She managed to blow up Phaaze (and pretty much everything else) because she snuck into the juicy bits bow-chicka wow wow and blew it up from the inside. But at the beginning of MP2, she nearly got mauled by a swarm of bugs. She's a beast at one-on-one at small groups, but in massed combat? Maybe not so much.

>But at the beginning of MP2, she nearly got mauled by a swarm of bugs.

That was more due to the fact that she was straight-up choking on the atmosphere of an alternate universe. That'd tend to put anyone in a bad way even before they were outnumbered. By the end of the game, Samus is entirely capable of slaughtering the Ing en masse.

She probably wouldn't coordinate very well with, say, a squad-sized element, or have much of a role to play in platoon-level tactics, but that's because she fucking breaks the rules. That's precisely why you're better off letting her do the lone wolf thing; she's an operational, rather than tactical-level, force--maybe even a strategic one.
>>
>>46349584
Not quite choking, it's more that the atmosphere itself was actively trying to murder her.
