I'm telling the truth, I swear, there's no music out there
From the artists themselves, of course! Just stream the album from YouTube or whatever. Or find a torrent website.
Here's a classic in ambient music, so to speak. Carbon Based Lifeforms is probably one of the more popular artists around, and their music lives up to their fame.

I've used this album in almost every single campaign I've run. Love the atmosphere it makes. Also a free album!

36 does a variation of ambient styles, but they're all soft enough to leave nicely in the background. This is my favourite album from them, so yeah. They've got lots of stuff on their Bandcamp page.

Here's some other random stuff to get you looking at different artists, too.

In general, you'll find lots of legally free albums on Ektoplazm, and a lot of ambient stuff. Go download a few of the higher rated ones (<90%) and just run it. They can't be that bad.

To be fair, though, a quick search of 'ambient music playlist' into anywhere and you'll get a whole selection. These are just the ones I feel are good for TTRPGing.
Have fun listening.

Google Tabletop Audio. It's mostly 10-minute tracks of environmental noise or sound effects that loop but sometimes there's music tracks too. Good stuff.

1. pick your setting
2. pick a few movies kind of like that setting
3. look up their soundtracks
4. oh wow, sound people can talk over without it overwhelming or distracting them!
5. expanded DLC mode: it works with vidya too
6, secret hard mode: anime has some good shit too. running shadowrun? Ghost in the Shell, Mardock Scramble, or Ergo Proxy are all great options just off the top of my head.
