The gayest sport on Earth
Song of Swords is a realistic fantasy tabletop RPG that draws inspiration from historical fechtbuchs, weapons and armor. Its combat system is fast and it can be used for both fantasy and historical/mundane settings.
Call of the Void is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

Dead world hours, every day, every week, every fucking YEAR. It's been years since it was promised first time to come out on kickstarter.
>>46310385
It was dead since you stopped having regular public fechts on 4chan and moved to roll20. Many new players were recruited that way, but you decided to shoot yourselves in the foot.
>>46310512
>implying there are regular public fechts on roll20
>>46310744
See, now it's all dead.
>>46310512
Everyone always says "more fechts" but nobody is willing to ever run one.
>>46311592
Duels between anons are fechts too. Bash each others head, have fun, let anons and newcomers watch, git gud.
>>46311712
Exactly. Everyone wins, but nobody is willing to run them.
I suppose that now I've said that I'm honor bound to run one. But I'm also fucking tired and have a game later tonight. I'll see about running one after the game or tomorrow.
>>46311592
The thing is, Builder is on the cusp of releasing what we finally need to do fechts in their system. We'll be able to see the competition SoS is up against. Unfortunately it seems we have to wait until Thursday to get it.
They are to release the wound tables, damage formula, weapon stats, and armor stats. You can rig it up to work with what they've released so far, but soon we'll be able to do actual fechts in their system.
>>46311778
Let's see how they handle initiative and changing reach. BoB favors offense too much right now.
>>46311963
>Let's see how they handle initiative and changing reach.
We already know how they do that.
>>46312560
>Both characters roll vs Base TN. The original attacker is considered advantaged. (-1TN)
On a red/red, no one is advantaged.
Nah, not great but better than I expected.
>Should the character with the shorter weapon score a hit (regardless of whether or not it
results in a wound)
From I what see, Feint with a longsword is very likely to hit a guy with a spear and give you reach control.
>Why throw White?
Good question guys

I'm busy next two weeks but after that I'm going to kill any fighter you make. 22 CrP, melee range.

>>46313290
Why would you need to Feint?
>>46314555
To boost your attack once you know how many dice he spend on defense? If you have reasonable chance to beat him, use Feint. Otherwise keep your dice for the next exchange.
>>46314622
You'd have to be adding in a large amount of dice then. Since Base TN is 6 for everyone to begin with, you won't be able to make the odds favor you heavily. You'd have to trick him with a low-die attack and then Feint most of your pool into it. Like we used to do in the old Riddle days. Besides, if he has a spear and threw white while you have a longsword and threw red, he has +4 CP for reach, so he can afford to invest more in defense against your first attack.
Also, in case it's not clear, range bonuses only take effect during the Refresh, and there are no range bonuses in a grapple.
>>46314796
>You'd have to be adding in a large amount of dice then.
In this situation I would not declare Feint at all. Feint is a flexible maneuver.
>Like we used to do in the old Riddle days.
I could declare regular attack and then Feint into Beat.
>he has +4 CP for reach, so he can afford to invest more in defense against your first attack
Depends on weapon stats but so far his defensive options are limited. If he uses TN6 evasion, he needs to pay 2CP to steal initiative on successful defense.
>range bonuses only take effect during the Refresh
Yeah, also swords with longer blade have no advantage over machete or falchion against spears.
>>46315112
>I could declare regular attack and then Feint into Beat.
Not in Builder you can't. You can only Feint from a Swing or Thrust, into a basic offensive maneuver. Beat is an advanced offensive maneuver.
>Depends on weapon stats but so far his defensive options are limited. If he uses TN6 evasion, he needs to pay 2CP to steal initiative on successful defense.
As of right now we have no reason to think he can't also parry at TN 6 with no problems.
>>46315263
>Not in Builder you can't.
You mentioned Riddle, though. Other option is Feinting into Discharge with a pistol at -1TN which is pretty sweet.
>As of right now we have no reason to think he can't also parry at TN 6 with no problems.
If only spears get DTN6 in BoB.
>>46315425
>If only spears get DTN6 in BoB.
That's the thing. They don't have ATNs or DTNs. Everything's done with your Base TN in Builder, which is normally 6. They mention pikes and other longer-than-EL polearms having disadvantage in a duel on page 104, so that leads me to think EL and shorter spears won't be at a disadvantage in defense. We don't know for certain until they release weapon stats, which according to a developer today is coming "soon."
We also know that shields defend at a Fixed TN, but don't know what those TNs might be.
>>46315631
>They mention pikes and other longer-than-EL polearms having disadvantage in a duel on page 104
"Advantage" and "disadvantage" are game terms in BoB.
>If it should come up that a player insist on using a pike, or by some contrivance they must defend themselves with a galley’s oar, then
assume it is Extended reach and apply a
disadvantage to all manuevers using the
weapon. They just aren’t optimized for that sort
of thing.
What they said is LL weapons have good reach control but +1TN to all maneuvers. I don't know whether it applies to its own statline, stats of related weapon such as long spear or to basic TN6.
>>46316012
I know what advantage and disadvantage are.

>>46317410
A few likely do. Dace is barren and awful enough that their allergies to nature would barely act up. And their METAL GLADES are about everywhere.
How can Ohanedin eat babies if babies can't talk?
>>46319443
They can only eat meat from animals that can speak. Humans are animals that can speak. Whether it's a baby or your grandpa, it's still Human, and Human is on the "can speak" list.
The real question is, can Ohanedin eat human fetuses? That would settle the abortion question once and for all.
>>46317454
I don't know if Helion would have allowed glades to pop up when it was their colony. Any there would have to be really new, or really old.
>>46321190
They'd probably be fine with it honestly. They're very sterile places. Nothing to make them sick.

Manifested retardation.
>>46324051
Bronze armor is worse by pretty much all measures than cloth or leather.
>>46323803
>Has anyone made any that make more sense?
Not that I've seen. Given that we're not GURPS tier, trying to create subtle differences is difficult considering the weight a single AV carries.
I could see leaving iron at 1 worse than steel, and bronze at the same AV with the heightened cost, and maybe a vulnerability for both that any AP damage is treated as Crushing?
>>46324117
1 less point rather than 2 would be less crippling, certainly.
>>46317086
Some Zells are dark, and the Burdinadin are described as "chestnut" skinned, which is pretty brown.
>>46324117

>>46325659
It makes sense for them to be pasty. I'm not sure why they remain Chestnut underground. I guess skin color changes really fucking slowly when your generations can theoretically be a few hundred years apart.
>>46326675
They aren't living underground. Metal Glades are buildings (presumably with windows).
>>46326675
Maybe U.V. rays kill spirits, so Iron Glades are like tanning salons.
Also, I kinda want a Baba Yaga-like Burdinadin stomping around in a Metal Glade Ray.
>>46326771
Weren't they described as icebergs, much larger below than above? The Taphonomy Bay Glade definitely has an underground component, since the city is built over it.

So, I'm only casually following SoS. Anybody willing to tell me what we know about magic in a mechanical sense?
Do we have any rough ideas how it will work in the system?
>>46332694
I think Pyromancy might involve burning arc for effects, as to what those effects are I couldn't tell you.
Sorcery involves drawing magic from the warren you're in to produce physical effects like force on an object, we actually got a .pdf with some samples I think.
Thaumaturgy is a mystery to me, I know it's about otherworldly entities turning you/your enemies into puddles of molten lead but that's about it.
>>46332694
We also have this.
>>46333183
>goblins can use blood magic
>goblins have a spiritual ethos about the cycle of life and all beings being consumed by each other
>aberrant goblin breaks from this and flees to the surface, through shenanigans discovers and consumes a lone hunter that he found wounded
>and so discovers the power of the blood
>years later, the goblin is a mutated, super-powered freak seeking to eat anything warm-bodied
Bullet-dodging fear-smelling darkness-dwelling horror that can grow back entirely and quickly from any wound that isn't fatal? Good minor antagonist to toss into a Tattered Realms campaign, I think.

Bitch I AM an adult. Let's go.
Great! What race do we want? Or do we want to choose randomly?
Note that the generator doesn't work properly with elves. Their age is based on the size of the forest they live in, but the generator doesn't know that, so it sets all elves to age 0.
>>46364772
Random yo.
>>46364772
If an option can be selected randomly, it must be random.
Random it is!
Whoops, I hit the wrong letter.
There we go. We're an ogre!
>>46364919
Our name is Shrek
>>46365005
of course
Here's everything you'd want to know about ogres. We're big, dumb, and strong. Thankfully, we have a limited list of occupations, most of which fit right in with fechting.
Now, what gender do we want? You may think this is a foregone conclusion, but remember that as the most historically and mythically accurate RPG of all time, FATAL properly presents the physical weakness of females in its sub-attribute adjustments. A female ogre will still be incredibly strong, but much weaker than a male.
>>46365186
Random.
Really, just keep hitting (R) until it doesn't let you anymore.
It turns out we're male! This bodes well for our fechten style, and incidentally will make sure we have incredibly good odds to Intimidate smaller creatures.
Now we have our sub-attributes.
The average roll results in 100. A perfectly average member of our race would have 100 in each sub-attribute.
The most important sub-attributes for combat are Hand-Eye Coordination, Agility, and Strength. We've actually rolled quite well here! But if you're unsatisfied with any of the results, you can reroll them.
We get up to 4 rerolls. The reroll uses a different dice loadout that results in an average roll of 135 instead of 100. But beware! Each reroll confers one (1) random mental illness. You can get a stronger body in exchange for a less stable mind!
So what's it gonna be, buddy? What will you reroll, if anything?
>>46365363
Reroll Bodily Attractiveness.
>>46365449
Well well! We're much prettier now.
Any more?
>>46365513

>>46365513
What's Reflection for?
>>46365572
Reflection is a sub-attribute of the Wisdom attribute. It's concerned with your long-term memory and recollection abilities. It affects skills such as Constellations, Etiquette, Remember Detail, and Weather Prediction. It's a good sub-attribute to have high if you plan on living in the wilderness, as virtually all ogres do, but of all sub-attributes it's one of the least used.
>>46365564
Our tones just got an octave closer towards dulcet.
>>46365654
I'd say Reflection, as it seems useful for us.
Another large increase!
Only one reroll left, if we choose to use it. What'll it be?
>>46365708
Analytical, as I think it's now our lowest attribute.
>>46365721
As you wish! We are one fine specimen of an ogre.
That's all four rerolls, so now we'll see what the price of the increases was.

if this wasn't randomly generated, I'd accuse somebody of self-inserting
Let's press on. Up next is our ogre's age. Ogres are about twice as long-lived as humans. His age will have a massive effect on his sub-attributes, which you all just so lovingly boosted. The default is Young Adult. Young Adults have no bonuses or penalties to anything. What'll it be?
>>46365952
As I'm sure you read in the Ogre write-up above, most ogres don't speak any language. Only "gifted" ones speak, and they speak a language called Cigan. The dice never lie in FATAL, so our ogre must speak Cigan, or he'd never develop narratophilia.
>>46365972
Coming right up! Let's hope we're not an infant, as that'll heavily diminish our fighting prowess.
Whew!
>>46366073
Is it time for our midlife crisis?
Now, I have a very important question to ask all of you. And I mean all of you. Even those of you who are just lurking, I need to hear your voices. Speak up and tell me your answer. The question is simple:
Yes, or no?
>>46366143
Y.
>>46366143
yes
>>46366143
NO. We must sculpt the perfect dong.
>>46366167
You either generate it randomly or not at all. You don't get to pick and choose.
>>46366206
What do you mean? Clearly we have the option to to randomly generate our dong, or make it ourselves.
Rolled 2 (1d3)
>>46366151
>>46366155
>>46366209
The dice never lie!
1-2: Yes
3: No
Great! We'll learn what the results are later on.
After modifiying for race, age, height, weight, and other factors, these are our ogre's final sub-attributes.
Yes, our Bodily Attractiveness is 1. This confers a -99 modifier to all of our 3d10 rolls which use Bodily Attractiveness. I suspect this is because in an older version of FATAL (which this generator was made for), ogres had a much worse penalty to bodily attractiveness. But the dice never lie, and so you've given this ogre narratophilia for nothing.
We look like we'll make quite a good fighter!
These are our bodily features. We're 8'6" tall, and 79 years old!
>>46366406
Ha, we have luscious lips but probably chest fur caked in shit, blood and good knows what.
You may look at our foot size of 12 inches and think, well that's convenient, that's a foot. To get such a result, however, we must have rolled very low on the Foot Size table. As you can see, our fist size is equivalent to our foot size. Now you may be thinking, because our hands are relatively small, something else must be small.
>>46366363
>so you've given this ogre narratophilia for nothing.
Nowhere does it say that the ogre's partner for vocabulary exercises needs to be particularly willing...
I guarantee you, there's no problem.
>>46366528
I'm less concerned about the dick, that's going to get stabbed soon, and far more concerned about the motherfucking inch long nipples.

The only impressive part about our penis is its circumference. We're barely above (modern) human average in length.Holy shit, our dick is almost cubical. It's only barely longer than it is thick.
Our piety points are meaningless, as ogres have never even considered the existence of gods.
But our morality is quite good for an ogre. In fact, based on Disposition Modifiers of -50 to each roll, we ought to be Unethical and Immoral. I'll post what this means next. But, you can reroll this if you wish! Beware, as each of your up to 4 rerolls will give you one (1) random allergy.

7.91" / 8.5" = ~0.93 = 93%
Or -7% from average, which correlates to the 91-96 roll you see here.

Since we're in agreement, let's move on.
We're too healthy to have any allergies!
Like most ogres, we tend to keep to ourselves.
>>46366774
I guess just putting censor bar over the original image would get the message across.
Can't do that myself because saving images of nigger dick, even for a brief moment, is against my religion.
Like the vast majority of ogres, we are a peasant born in a hamlet. This limits our starting funds, and we certainly won't have any ogre-sized plate armor or zweihanders. But, if we happened to be a part of a circus fencing ring, who knows?
And finally, we have our name. I present to you...
Face-Smasher!
>>46366885
Face smasher the gracious.
>>46366622
It's 8", only 2 higher than the average.
The generator may be done helping us but we're not finished yet. Next is a part I need YOUR help with. We need to give our ogre some skills! Besides his sub-attributes, the skills are what the ogre will actually use to fight with. It includes things such as Wrestling, Brawling, and weapon usage.
In FATAL, you roll a die for each year your character has been alive, spend the points from that roll according to how your character spent that year of their lives, and proceed to the next year. Graciously however, Byron Hall suggests an alternative method if our character is over 30 years old. We may roll all our skill points rolls as a lump sum, and distribute it realistically. Our ogre is 79 years old, so we have a lot to do!
Hand-in-hand with skills are our occupation! As an ogre we have a very small list of valid occupations, which are listed here. >>46365129
So I have two tasks for you now, /sos/. First, roll 1d100 for the occupation; the first roll counts. Then, we have a more complicated set of rolls.
20 rolls of 1d6 - 1
50 rolls of 1d10 divided by 2, then -1
9 rolls of 1d4 -1
That's what you have to do! Get to it!
Rolled 1, 5, 5, 2, 5, 5, 4, 5, 1, 4, 5, 3, 1, 4, 3, 6, 5, 3, 3, 4 = 74 (20d6)

Rolled 7, 2, 7, 1, 7, 7, 9, 8, 6, 7, 8, 2, 6, 10, 2, 4, 1, 9, 9, 6, 8, 2, 1, 5, 4 = 138 (25d10)

That's only 25, heres the rest
Rolled 28 (1d100)
I'll roll the d100. Hope we don't get slave!

Wow, I leave the thread for a few hours, and this happens?
Good job, lads.

That happens when kids lack communication skills. When they face problems, they engage in self-destructive behavior to attract attention of adults or powerful person to solve their problems. Little kids shit on the floor, teens cut their veins and big manchildren shit in their threads with the worst RPG system ever made.

Chill out dude, it's just a bit of harmless FATAL memeing.

FATAL shitposting isn't harmless as all shitposting. This "harmless" shitting
kills community eventually.
>>46368326
Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy. National Socialist Elf Fecht when?
>>46368364
FATAL was here forming a community together before there was a game, back when the game was announced by Jimmy. There were a couple fights done, and it created some of the earliest of the fechts carried out by what became the SoS community. FATAL has actually done far more to create a cohesive, united community through laughing at shitty knights cutting off each others hands than any amount of bitching (apart from a mutual connection about bitching about Soon). If you're upset about it, run a Fecht that you want to see rather than complaining about it like a child, you fucking coward. It isn't anybody's duty to entertain you but yourself.
>>46367588
Extremely boring, decent artwork.
>>46368428

Go fuck yourself, moron. It was build Riddle fechts, we carried out dozen little fechts in old threads. You stroking touching yourself in the lonely corner for the shock value is not a community.

Okay, got it
>>46369811
It was probably pretty big at one point.
>>46374058
How big was Ruvia? Did it rule all of Galli and Kaselreich? Was it able to invade Osterbija before Tenja was built or Kalmacia before they figured out pike blocks? Were they able to circumvent the Ohanedin and take Iberia?
>>46375959
They ruled Galli, I believe. Other countries were protected by natural borders or natural badassery of its denizens.
>>46369137
I don't think I've allowed you to post my waifu?
>>46376153
Gali and Kaselreich both claim to be heirs, so they at least ruled both. They probably had Iberia as well, and I'm betting they also invaded Kedoua.
>>46377605
Is that so? She happens to be my waifu too. You have to live with this fact.
>>46378516
I can share her with you.If you're willing to share yourself with me.
>>46378568
Y'all mutherfuckers, comin' years late to the waifurin'...
>>46378325
Well, Galli was obviously easily conquered, it's a defenseless flatland. Northern region of modern Kaselreich is protected both by mountain range and Whatsitsname river. I don't think Ruvians would waste resources to conquer filthy barbarians beyond perfect natural border.
Kedoua is notSyria filled with snakes, smelly notParthians, horses, arrows and the whole lot of nothing. Does it have any important trade routes from Karthak, gold mine or anything valuable?
Iberia looks like tricky place to conquer. Rough terrain, mountains, maneating elves. What's important about it?
>>46378568
I'm happy not to be Anthony Burch and I'm not going to change that in the foreseeable future.
>>46378978
>Iberia looks like tricky place to conquer. Rough terrain, mountains, maneating elves. What's important about it?
Well, you see, the Ruvians found this huge mountain full of gold, and then they took the gold and left the mountain here, and here, and there, and there too, and also over that other part there, and all along these rivers...
>>46379616
I forgot about rich gold mines. Looks like this place is filled with great ambush sites for hunting human miners. Maybe goblins settled there once humans left?
>>46379616
hey from León here, finally our goddam forsaken place is recognized as being worthy of invading
>>46379875
Your forsaken place provided 1% of the gold mined in human history. It's a lot.
>>46379941
The Witwatersrand of South Africa provided >50%
1% is still respectable on a global scale though
>>46379875

>>46378978
Jenoesa was originally a Ruvian colony, I think.
>>46379777
That place is only like that _because_ of human miners. The Romans literally broke the mountain into pieces.

not shown in pic: miles and miles of aqueducts.
Japanese merchant asshole here again.
I'm buying my equipment right now, and while I've got a pack animal with a cart full of goods, I need to actually have some armor, because bandits exist but are officially denied as existing by the government.
So obvious armor, while not always illegal per se, can still get me beaten or executed, because japan.
So, good folks of stabbing dicks, how can I armor myself in a way that both isn't obvious and isn't useless?
I'm already planning on sewing mail into a cloth vest/shirt and into a scarf, but that leaves my limbs woefully exposed. I think I could also swing an old jingasa without being suspicious, but that again leaves my face and lower head completely exposed.
>>46382093
just wear a big traveling cloak over your armor
something like a mail hauberk (which I'm pretty sure has historical basis in japan) worn under a coat could work
look at the design for a coat of plates/brigandine, those should be pretty easily disguised as long as you don't take it off around anyone. Still only covers the torso though.
maybe brigandine + jack chains, worn over a linen shirt and under a jacket/robe? Should minimize bulk/clanking and give some measure of protection for the limbs
>>46382093
Well, you've already got a manchira planned, that's a good start. You're not going to be able to fully armor your face without it being obvious in some way but you might be able to swing a kusari-gote (kote sleeves of full mail) that can be hidden under the sleeves of a kimono.
>>46382093
>face and lower head completely exposed
I mean . . . . there's really no way around that without a helmet
maybe some kind of articulating gorget that you wear a scarf over? Probably too expensive for a merchant though
>>46382193
>something like a mail hauberk (which I'm pretty sure has historical basis in japan)
It does; google image search "kusari-gusoku".
>>46382278
aha, I knew I had seen japanese mail somewhere
>>46382272
>there's really no way around that without a helmet
I'm going to make an argument to the GM that I could, if I am anticipating trouble, wrap up and around my mouth and lower head, acting like a camail if I can take the couple rounds to adjust it.
>>46382093

100 gp of detestable merchant money
Enough to matter, but not quite enough to be able to play with the clans or the most modern tech.
I have yet to ask what the price of a Colt Navy is.
>>46380516
I think Jimmy once said that it was Carthage, which makes it conquered by Ruvia.
>>46382358
Mail hood and face wrap is your best bet for remaining somewhat inconspicuous. You could also add some lamellar to the chest to represent that plate linked with mail that exists on a lot of Asian armor.
>>46383260
>hoods
I'm unsure if they're present enough in normal fashion for it to be actually inconspicuous.
For the vest, I think brigantine is a perfect model for the kinds of armors I'm looking at in that link. That, or straight mail because obviously. Mixing them feels messy.
>>46382093
If you're willing do be extremely dishonourable (you're a merchant, so we both know you are) you could make an iron Komusō hat, and just keep it nearby when travelling.
>>46383371
This thing on the right could count as a camail if made from padded material, and if you can fasten one of the flaps across your face maybe a ventail as well.
>>46383371
I mean, keep the hood concealed under your regular clothing, if at all possible. Or keep a coif that can be thrown on.
>>46384368
Seems pretty obvious if it were padded.
>>46383692
Probably, most arms and armor can't really be concealed on the person. They need to he kept in belongings.
>>46380351
