There used to be a good shot of similar artwork behind the DA Company Master on the GW site, where you could see a more profile shot of what was basically a flying battle church.
IIRC, the Rogue Trader RPGs have cathedrals you can deploy onto planets, and it's implied that this is also how the Imperium quickly sets up basic colonial facilities. Maybe that's what the floaty thing is? Soldiers are gonna need barracks and the like, after all.

Extremely elegant and complicated Micro-Grav generators.
