To put people into perspective, into this situation.
Imagine this you are a veteran hero you have managed to avoid gods wrath from a simple accident or provoking it to save the kings life., He or she has saved countless villages and has earned the thanks of countless maidens and princess's and has killed enough beasts to fill more than a few tens of trophy rooms. And has earned enough gold and spent it to sate more than a few legendary dragons. And has managed to survive more than a few years and is continuing the adventuring, but what happens when it dawns upon the folk hero or savior that it has become boring to fight dragons or gods or anyone day after day, that it has become boring to them, when so many other people find what they do so interesting?
What do they do that doing what is perceived as the worlds most exciting and riveting thing has become boring, it has become sorta like a day job?

But the thing about being an adventurer (not a mercenary) is that you can do whatever you feel like doing. There's no paperwork for you to do either.
If you grow tired of seeing new things, and not just for the evening, you are probably clinically depressed and should be put on suicide watch.
None of my characters have ever suffered from this as all of them have had a reason for the adventure and most wish for the end to come so they can get back on with their lives.
The sole exception to this was a Drow who ran away from her life in the Underdark to save her own skin.
She wasn't adventuring for the love of it but because the rest of the group was pretty much the only ones who didn't have a 'Oh god, it's a Drow. Kill it, kill it now' mentality and that was really her only meal ticket.
But even then, once the excitement was over, she stuck with the Cleric of the group, who she became good friends with despite her being a Sun Elf.
She still had dreams of one day returning home but was quite content with her life as a scout for the small Sun Elf commune and didn't foster any illusion she would or even could return home.

>Instead of teaching the new king how to rule a nation, he replaces all the furniture in his keep with mimics that like to give helpful advice

The throne reminds him not to slouch and offers it's own perspective when settling disputes.

How the fuck does our hero find daemons and gods and dragons and armies and so on to fight day after day after day? Where do they all come from? Why don't they eventually realise that this guy is mopping the floor with their peers and considering it just another day on the job? Why the fuck do you try to get a "what would happen" out of a scenario that obviously can't happen without some fucker of an author making it happen, at which point the only answer is "whatever the author thinks should happen"?
