Reposting from last thread, need some advice on gameplay for my vivisectionist:

>>tfw my DM won't let me buy high-level potions so no alchemical allocation/+5 barkskin shenanigans

What potions are best to use with alchemical allocation? I was thinking as high a level of barkskin as possible, heroism, and greater magic fang.

Any other ones I missed? I'll be using infusions of bull's strength and enlarge person in poisoner's gloves on my monkey tumour familiar, whilst necking a bountiful bottle (move action because of accelerated drinker) and mutating with master chymist as a standard action (assuming it's a standard action). I'll be drinking the high level potions I bought with alchemical allocation for longer-lasting buffs.

Should make me a combat monster, especially since I'm going vivisectionist. I could use invisibility instead of enlarge person, which would allow me to hit with sneak attacks on my natural attacks thanks to feral mutagen.

Not sure if this is what they're talking about, but Tzimisce are an eastern european bloodline of vampires. Their powers include fleshcrafting, which means they can modify creatures to make them better, worse, battle ready or permanently disfigured. Apparently they got this from aliens, but that got retconned! Known uses for fleshcrafting are schlatza, body transformation, and citadels of flesh and being eaten by the clan sire because vicissitude is actually them making their way into every vampire to eat them from the inside out when they get hungry enough.

Alchemist? You also get a Mutagen for an additional stat boost, plus your choice of Bombs or Sneak Attack. Also Brew Potion, so you can make your own potions of those spells and have them always available.

The problem with the bracers is that they require a swift and only last one round for a total of three times a day.

I'm also considering just plain buying pots to drink which may end up costing the same as a couple of pearls of power throughout my career till I can afford to get a permanencied enlarge.

So who here has played through this adventure module? I find the concept and all the rules and stat ups for things like landmines, machine guns and mustard gas fascinating, but at the moment my game group has several campaigns already planned, on top of needing to work through the earlier parts of the adventure path, so I'm probably not going to use it any time soon. What did you think of it if you did, and has anyone adapted the rules for modern weapons and troop combat into a homebrew game of any kind?

I don't mind the doubling up there, since there's a significant enough difference between the extraplanar invade-to-fuck-with-deities asuras and the native infiltrate-to-fuck-mortals rakshasa.

I'm more annoyed by the oni, as they're way too close the rakshasa, but don't even have a clear identity as a group (can have any evil alignment, have variants for every race that don't actually work together, etc).

I suppose kami have the same issue with regards to good outsiders, but they get a pass because it's not like anyone ever gave a shit about the kami anyway.

So overly complicated and verbose that it literally cannot fit into one post.

>Battle in Dreams
>Sleeping Goddess (Boost) [Mind-Affecting]
>Level: 9
>Prerequisites: 4 Sleeping Goddess maneuvers
>Initiation Action: Swift
>Range: 100 ft.
>Target: 1 creature
>Duration: Instantaneous (see text)
>Save: Will partial
>At the pinnacle of the Sleeping Goddess discipline, its masters do not do battle in the physical world at all. Instead, they draw their foes into their dreams and attack the very underlying concepts of their being, subverting or maiming the essence of their minds. When you use this maneuver, you create a demiplane of dreaming and transport yourself there along with one foe. The demiplane appears functionally identical to the general area the two of you are located in with strange alterations - blood might appear to rain from the sky, or a titanic tree might appear to hang in the sky. Within the dream, you and your foe have difficulty maintaining your physical forms, taking on metaphorical or symbolic shapes (you and your foe might become warring city-states, or you might turn your foe into a mountain range and yourself into a river wearing the mountain down to dust).

>Upon activating this boost, you take one full round of actions; your targeted foe then takes one full round of actions. While battle in dreams is in effect, creatures outside the dream are invulnerable to creatures within the dream’s attacks and spells; creatures within the dream cannot target such creatures with any attack or spell. During these dream rounds, you gain a +1 circumstance bonus on all attack rolls, damage rolls, ability checks, saving throws, and skill checks for every 6 initiator levels you have, as the dream contorts to always grant you an edge. Neither you nor your opponent may recover maneuvers in the dream.
>>
>>46190278
>>46190470

>At the end of your foe’s dream turn, you each return to your original conditions and locations, and you resume your turn as normal. Resources expended in the dream remain expended in reality (such as maneuvers, spells, and magic items), but otherwise only hit point damage and ability damage either of you does to the other transfers into reality - to outside observers, wounds simply appear out of nowhere. All other actions taken in the dream, such as changing stances, applying helpful and harmful conditions (like a haste spell or stunning an opponent), healing, or changing the environment (like wall of stone) revert when the dream rounds end; your foe inherently understands these restrictions.

>Augment You can augment this maneuver in the following ways:
>For every 6 power points you spend, you gain an additional +1 circumstance bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, ability checks, saving throws, and skill checks during your dream round.
>If you spend an additional 15 power points and expend psionic focus, any movement you and your foe make is preserved after the dream ends. In addition, your circumstance bonuses and your foe’s penalties remain until the beginning of your next turn.

I like the idea of "personal reality bubble to battle in" but this was a SHIT execution.

Hopefully they write a better way.

I mean, that depends on what you want.

If you don't want to stray too far afield, Fantasy Craft is pretty fun and OGL so it's vaguely similar to PF (although a lot of the core system assumptions are very different - iteratives don't exist and spells work on a spellpoint system, for example)

There's a whole mess of ruleslight stuff you could learn if you want something easy and fast to run.

If you wanna try something different, there's a bunch of different systems out there. I like Infinity's RPG for cyberpunk future stuff, one of the old Marvel Universe RPGs is my favorite supers system, there's always GURPS!

If you wanna go full weeb, Tenra Bansho Zero is pretty awesome.

Custom magic items can (generally be made) I believe it's the bonus squared*1000, so a +10 would cost 10,000, +20 would be 40,000 and +30 would be 90,000. You could always try and convince your dm to let you increase the price of the lower items to make them a different bonus type so they stack. As long as you're not an incantatrix that shouldn't be too broken.

I have to admit, I really like The Hellfire Compact, the first book of Hell's Vengeance. Wesley Schneider comes up with enough reasons to get an evil party to work together, but I'm really satisfied by his use of the NPC village folk, reusing them in multiple scenarios, giving them enough personality and making it so that being a mega-douche to them isn't as easy as you think it will be. While you do feel a little sorry reading about what happens to them, you are outright encouraged and rewarded for doing so. Still, the adventure gives you a lot of leeway, a ton more than normal APs do.

In a normal AP, the players are expected to kick in the door and murder everyone because they're Evil, but in Hellfire Compact, you can play around a lot. You could murder every person you lay eyes on, but that would not just upset your boss and turn the town against you faster, but you can choose to have multiple solutions. You can kill them or, as agents of the Baron, throw them in the stocks/jail for some public humiliation. You can shake them down and force them to pay you to let them off with a warning or just beat them senseless to teach them a lesson. It doesn't make assumptions on how you play and gives a lot of freedom. Langacre could be a pristine gem of your tyrannical rule or a flaming wreckage by the time you get done with it, your choice. And it doesn't try and make you feel guilty with heavy handed maudlin tactics.

There's so much opportunity to play, you can go through the game feeling totally justified for your dick-ass behavior.
>It's not my fault the innkeeper has to be executed, he's a Wereboar after all. He's a monster!

The final boss, the Angel Knight, is probably the best thought out villain for a first issue AP since Nualia.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest. I have high hopes in Rob McCreary.

Tell me GM fampais, what enjoyment do you derive from running an AP? The way I see it, most GMs use them as training wheels to practice before running their own story.

Is it for the ERP maybe? Or just for the opportunity to witness how bad/good the players make of each situation?

I GM myself of course, but only use my own stuff and derive most of my enjoyment from the tactics end of combat where I control varied groups of units vs PCs.
>>
I'm looking into playing a tiefling that dual wields repeating crossbows. I would be taking five levels in gunslinger (bolt ace archetype) for dex to damage and better crits. I'd be using my tail to reload the crossbows.

A) I know the build is suboptimal, and whilst I'm looking for it to be fun I don't want to be completely useless in combat. Will I be at least moderately useful I.e. tier 4?
B) is there a way for me to get iterative attacks whilst dual wielding repeating crossbows?
C) would it be better to use heavy crossbows or light crossbows? With TWF am I right it would be -2/-2 for light and -4/-4 for heavy?
D) what class should I go into after gunslinger?

For me its about not wasting time building stat blocks from scratch and running a group through a theme adventure they want to try out. For someone with a full time job, it's a amazing time saver. I get to focus on RPing more than combat and the players spend more time interacting with the world and each other than waiting for their turn to come around.

It also has appeal of seeing how players react and deal with set scenarios which they then go on to share in story form with other players. Back in the day, a lot of people could relate to each other after playing through the same modules and their 'We Did This' stories.

Makes sense, they get all the enjoyment of people begging for their DM dick and bail when it goes from fun to obligation.
>>
>>46191598

You can, depending.

The wording of the boost is "until the start of your next turn", which implies that it can be used when it's not your turn. Otherwise it would be "until the end of your turn".
>>
>>46191598
No, but Paizo rules text often forgets this anyway.
>>
>>46191673
No idea what your talking about, But that wording is just to make it clear that it lasts through everyone elses turn that round, but is not up for your next action. Not that you can use it any time.
Usually.
>>
>>46191673
Free actions can't be used off-turn, though.
>>
>>46191704

I'm talking about Endless Current.

If it wasn't intended to let you move during others' turns, then the wording would be "until the end of your turn". This is to allow AoOs and counters to let you move around.
>>
>>46191673
>>46191699
The answer is these two together. Devs just forget this all the time, so while strict RAW is "you can't", the intent in this particular case is made clear just by the fact that it lasts until the start of your next turn instead of the end of your turn.

Some free actions can. The important part about free actions is that they usually occur as part of another action, so for example you can draw an arrow (free action) and fire it as an AoO if you have Snap Shot, even though it's not your turn. You can't take free actions that occur by themselves like dropping a held item unless it's your turn, although that's always up for debate.

In this case though, you get a free action to move as part of an attack, including AoOs.

IMMORTAL TRUTHS OF THE SLEEPING GODDESS
Discipline: Sleeping Goddess (Strike) [mind-affecting]
Level: 9
Prerequisites: Four Sleeping Goddess maneuvers
Initiation Action: 1 standard action
Range: Melee or ranged attack
Target: One creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Standing at the pinnacle of the Sleeping Goddess discipline’s students, you have the ability to share your beliefs in a way that no others can. By making contact with your opponent’s mind and soul, you can open a dialogue, communicating your respective ideals instantaneously and debating their merits. Make an attack. If it hits, it deals an additional 10d6 points of damage. If this damage would reduce the target to 0 or fewer hit points, you can attempt to convert them to your way of thinking, clashing beliefs in a brief moment of spiritual contact. If you do, you and the target make an opposed ability check, with you using your initiation modifier and the target using its Charisma modifier. If the target succeeds, they take damage as normal, potentially killing them or knocking them unconscious. If you succeed, the target is instead reduced to 1 hit point, and their attitude towards you and your allies changes to helpful.

This is not a compulsion, nor is it forcing the target to follow your orders, but rather the result of a spiritual conversation that took place in the instant of the strike. The target now understands your beliefs and ideals and either believes in them as well or respects your belief enough to be unwilling to oppose you. Regardless of whether or not the target succeeds on their check, you gain a deep understanding of their own beliefs and ideals. While you have this maneuver readied and unexpended, you automatically know the current hit point total of each creature within your melee reach.
Augment: You can augment this maneuver in one or more of the following ways:
• For every power point you spend, this strike deals an additional 1d6 points of damage. For every 2d6 you increase the damage by, you gain a +1 bonus on your ability check.
• If you expend your psionic focus while initiating this strike, you ignore any immunity to mindaffecting effects the target possesses.

Well that was fast.
let me check it out...

There's a cantrip that can do that. Fey something.

Suli Kensai with a nine-section whip

What these guys said. If you're stuck with just 1st party, I suppose Spiritualist works too.

What class combination would sufficiently emulate a mafioso? Not the big papa at the top but one of the guys doing the work. Intimidating, tough gun-user.
Gotta be Gestalt, too.
Ideas?
I've got too many different ideas to narrow one down, right now.

So, Defeat Means Friendship?
>>
>>46192830
Fey something, ok
>>

Slayer/Gunslinger.

Maybe a Brawler/Gunslinger.
>>
>>46192860
Quick question, 3pp or no?
>>
>>46192887
On an approval basis. GM's p chill about things.
DSP, SoP, Interjection Games and Kobold Press are blanket-OK.
>>
>>46192499
Does that actually work?
>>
>>46192830
You mean haunted fey aspect?
considering that gives you DR1/iron is not bad for a cantrip, but the other one seems more useful
>>
>>46192918
Okay then
Savage Technologist/Desperado Warlord
That should do it.

>>46192939
Kapenia Dancer and Bladebound are stackable, and Kapenia treats all Bladed Scarves as one-handed slashing weapons. By RAW, it seems to work.
>>
>>46192953
No shit prestidigitation's more useful, but it can't duplicate the effects of other spells so you might want to get both depending on how anal your GM is.
>>
Would it be viable for a Good-aligned character with high diplomacy skill actually don't like/distrust people in general? Due to childhood issues and sort.
>>
>>46193093
Pump your Sense Motive and it's not only a great mechanical benefit but justifies the way you want to act.

So, lads, been trying to make a dragon disciple sorcerer as not-shit as possible. So far it looks like nagaji/suli, crossblooded Draconic/(abyssal or orc), eldritch heritage for pit-touched, maybe, if you want that +Con. Usual buff spells, natural attack build. Am I missing anything?
