Loyalist emperors children guy here. I'm planning on ordering forge-world bits, however am an Ausfag and forge-world kits of any type usually hurt the bank. Don't use anything for 40k that didn't exist in 30k. The collar for Mk8 can work as an artificer armor piece. I'm a little busy at the moment so I'm sorry if I can't be more helpful. Look for HH era EC for inspiration for your marienes if you need it.

Dude, the best advice I found when I was starting out was to browse the HH units on FW's website, see what catches your eye, and then ask the community if an army featuring your favoured units is viable.
I've heard EC do jetbikes really well, but they are going to really hurt your wallet. Hard to substitute too, although there are some third-party bikes out there. Not as cool IMO, but there is a lot of criticism that the scimitar pattern jetbikes look like dicks - hence the widespread use by EC. Jks, not really. But it's true.
What units do you want to field? Tanks, skimmers and bikes, dreads, termies...
I know no one in the Iron Hands had much love for Mor, but did the other Legions have companies that were frowned upon?

In the Raven Guard fluff in HH book 3 it's explained that not all the inmates of Lycaeus (later, Deliverance) are political dissidents - some are proper nasty motherfuckers like Kaedes Nex. Corax freed these guys because it was valuable to have experienced killers in his uprising, but he didn't completely trust them. While moritats themselves aren't companies, I always imagined that those inmates that were on Corax's shitlist were just made into Destroyer companies.
The Salamanders also frowned upon Destroyers too. They're just not cricket.

Consider getting a full squad of 10 (small units tend not to last long in this game) and attaching a melee-orientated praetor and perhaps an apothecary for that sweet FNP. The Justaerin's main flaw was their extremely high cost. Not like they are the best money you get, but they're better now.
They're 2W WS5 termies that have both good melee and even better dakka, courtesy of BS5 Death Dealers (but vanilla termies have this one too)

If you knew anything about them you'd know they're actually one of the best for having such highly adaptable and easily recruited geneseed, didn't need to come up with retarded unique tactics and still got the job done despite being thrown in the worst fights. They were considered the most reliable legion specifically because they stayed the same.
They also didn't have the benefit of a Primarch to help them get better, and had to mindlessly take orders from Horus and other Primarchs which led to them becoming shitty.

You take as many alpha strikers as you can. Normally see Malgihurst so you can take Reaver troops, and take at least 3, sometimes 5 drop pods. You DP in as manu reavers with combi-weapons in their deployment zone and fire within twelve inches at your primary targets. You get to reroll 1s to hit that turn and within 21 inches you're hitting on 2 ups. Basically preferred enemy to dump 2-3 squads worth of plasma and melta in someone, with precision shots too.bonua is you get crusader and stuff in the next round should you survive to shooting and get to charge.

Honestly, I haven't really had time to even play 30k yet because I need to put effort into my studies and I figured it would be more fun to try out a game this summer with some painted guys for the first time. Because you use it for war and want your flying transport vehicle to be optimised for war? Just making it rounder would mean less air resistance so it would have to exert less energy moving around. This could even make it go faster and maybe it would even be able to carry more weight?
I know the Imperium in 40k isn't all about efficiency, but I would at least think that they tried harder with this in 30k. I'm gonna guess that the Emperor just decided that he would rely on the brute force of the Space Marines to win the Great Crusade and because of that he didn't bother with optimising all of their equipment.

Expect them to be fairly expensive and you'll need to use psychic powers to conjure up cover saves and imitate special/heavy weapons.
It's going to depend lots on just how random power generation will be and if there will be unique powers.
In any case they are likely to be very heavily infantry focused as that's where the bulk of your points are likely to be invested.

Corax and Fulgrim to a certain extent have well scripted faces, but the studio paint job makes them look a bit weird. You can manipulate shading and tone to dramatically change the look of a face.

They use psychic powers to see short distances into the future and tell each other how to dodge incoming projectiles for example in ATS. Multiple different branches of psychic powers in form of different cults they used to have.

Weird thing is these were the guys with the better weapons as well but in most cases they didn't use those weapons and just psykered it
Corvidae were an exception since their powers didn't have an immediate effect - but the higher corvidae seem to have lots of telepathy

Joking aside, if you did have two boxes you can use the special and heavy weapons from B@C to make a couple of tactical support squads (say a plasma team and melta team) and heavy support squads (heavy bolter team and missile launcher team). Would go some way to making a more interesting, and effective, force.

After thinking about this I guess the primer is more important. I would not use white because the paints themselves might not match the primer's white, so I would start with a darker primer and use grey.
I would use white however if a simple result suffices and if I had to finish quickly.
I only used GW shades so far. I don't think there would be something wrong with black.

Think you guys can help me pick my legion? I'm building a force that I want to fluff up as ancient terran/legion recruits that act as high speed raiders. Techno-barbarians basically, lots of fast attack and despilers squads lead by their commander who's resentful of his primarch taking away the Terran legionaires positions of power and respect. Basically lots of go fast hard hitting forces in mk 2 and a few 3 armor with ccw and bp. Might take destroyers because they're fast assholes.

The last one wouldn't make sense since if you look at the 40k TS at best 1 in 10 or so marines are sorcerers with the rest being rubrics but the rubric improved the powers of all psykers, including latent psykers in the legion turning the rest into rubrics. I imagine that most of the ML 1 TS psykers in 40k were probably just latent psykers in 30k who got their powers boosted from almost nothing to at least being consciously usable. So the idea of having a TS army where more than 1 in 10 of your troops are non-latent psykers doesn't make much sense unless you spam librarians, psyker praetors, and whatever special unit they will likely get.

Night Lords are an obvious choice.
Alpha Legion Terrans might not even be aware they are quietly being pushed out. Either that or they'd be brainwashed properly, or stabbed in the back early on.
Raven Guard seem like a flavourfail, iirc it was the Terran former Legion commander who came and saved Corax's ass on Istvan. Might be a good one for when Corax started cloning too many marines. But those beg to be Chymeric Black Shields.

So my favorite part of HH is the consul types, they make everything so customizable and interesting. What other consul types do you guys want to see? Personally, I want to see a tank Commander, who can bring the predator rite but no others, and can be mounted in a sicaran.
I'd also like to see a tactical company captain, someone who is a more shooty captain than melee and buffs tactical squads he's with, like maybe move and fury.

this is honestly a good idea, something like reserve company captain. Maybe a new rite of war that removes the support squad rule but limits elites, fast attack and heavy support. You need more Troops than other units not inc. the captain but for every +1 unit you get extra buff to the troops choices.
