>The Thousandfaced Demonking was sealed away by the Seven Legendary Heroes one-thousand years ago, swearing that he would return on the solar eclipse marking the millennia's anniversary
>>
The Dwarves hide away in their mountain fortresses, bitter at some evil done to them long in the past.
>>
Human kingdoms, elves in their forests, and dwarves in their mountainhomes.
>>

>A dark human magician seeking the Thousandfaced Demonking's return appears out of nowhere. His personal philosophy would be nihilistic if he didn't believe he would gain control over the world when the demon king returned.
>He has a backstory just tragic enough to make him believable but (obviously) not enough to keep him from being good and truly evil.
>>
The king's adviser is secretly plotting against him.
>>
A seemingly ordinary boy is destined for extra ordinary things
>>
The four crystal orbs control the elements. If one clouds over, that element will become putrid over time. If one breaks, it could bring about the end of the world.
>>
Orcs, goblins, and other monstrous people constantly fight with more civilized humans, elves, and dwarves
>>
>>46138148
Neither side of this conflict is completely unsympathetic or wrong, and the two sides must in fact unite against the true enemy by the spurring of the 'new' legendary heroes.
>>
>The secret to sealing away the DemonKing once again rests with the sages of fire, earth, air and water.
>>
The scheming nobility refuses to set aside its petty differences and unite in the face of a greater danger.
>>
>>46138140
>>46138198
Each of them belong to different races and hold an orb of their respective elements.
>>
>In the realm of Varahkun, a wise and aged wizard named Glafen awakes, ready for a journey with his elvish comrades to slay the Thousandfaced Demonking. But on the way arrives fearful yet logical man with a tragic back story barely believable, affected by the TFDK
>>
>>46138124
The boy's parents died (or perhaps went missing) when he was only an infant, so he was raised by his aunt and uncle in a rural village, unaware of his true significance.

>>46138110
The sinister adviser is one of those who would seek the return of the Demonking.

>>46138140
The Demonking sought to smash all four of these orbs during the incident one thousand years ago, nearly succeeding, yet the Legendary Heroes stopped him just in time. Since there are now those who seek his return, the crystal orbs are once more in danger.
>>
The dragons are thought to have disappeared long ago, but a few are sticking around in the deepest caverns or the valleys near the most secluded villages.

It is prophesied that only the descendant of dragons will be able to put a stop to all this Demonking stuff.

Jokes on everybody, the BBEG was the little girl the whole time

There is a second set of four crystal orbs, held by the sages of the "evil" races.

They are the orbs of Magma, Swamps, Ice, and Lightning.

The gods are getting weaker because fewer people worship them nowadays.
>>
>>46146405
Yeah, and there is some (weird and stretched) logic to it. Like, who would sign up for these fucked up quests? Drunk people. You can make drunk people do almost anything. Just have them agree to it and hold them to their word in the morning.
>>
>>46146686
That's frequently blamed for all the problems in the world, but by the end of it all, all the main characters will realize that we're getting strong enough on our own to do without the gods.
>>
>>46146686
Turns out that some of the dead gods were killed by the living ones as a way to take their strength and live longer.

Ancient, advanced civilizations have crafted swords of huge magical power. Nowadays they are mostly lost (ie. lying in ruins you will most likely explore).

The Demonking is said to be vulnerable to such weapons.

What does this besides final fanasy?
>>
>>46147382
Crystalis does it but with swords.
Zelda does it with various pendants, crystals, triforce bits, whatever.
Golden Sun does it, including shit hitting the fan when you move the macguffins.

The exact way the poster formulated it is exactly the original Final Fantasy. But it's actually rare that the most generic thing has been done multiple times - rather, the most generic thing is just the center of a lot of related examples.
>>
>>46147382
>>46147721 put it well. "X number of crystal something something" is as synonymous with cliche fantasy as haughty tree-hugging elves.

I'm so tired of cunts saying this. It's fucking retarded and will never stop being retarded. Humans literally evolved in the middle of africa away from oceans. Literally the only reason we even bother with oceans is because we have and can use tools.
