They hate hexproof voltron. With swiftfoot on the board you gain extreme advantage when Godo comes in. I would have done the same as them, but with targeted removal. I don't understand why you would be salty, sounds like the people you were playing against actually knew what they were doing.

Burn from Within
(X)(R) Sorcery

Burn from Within deals X damage to target creature or player. If a creature is dealt damage this way, it loses indestructible until end of turn. If that creature would die this turn, exile it instead.

Thoughts on this seems like it might be good for removing gods.

you're right, I don't see enough great legends like Jasmine Boreal around, people keep using unfun meme precons
>>
>>46138692
I kinda agree. The powerlevel on them is bonkers compared to other commanders in their colors to the point where only the busted commanders can keep up. It's pretty bad that whenever they reveal new legendaries in a set I hardly give a shit because I know they won't be able to keep up. Though part of that is the fact that they insist on printing tons of mono-color legends and mono-color EDH is shit.

Oloro's life gain is great when it's used as a resource, with such things as hatred or black card draw.

>>
>>46138506
Just as a blanket statement, not specifically at you, I offer the following.

We need to better remember that in a multiplayer format where seperate players have different knowledge/skill levels, but all want to win, and in that cards from a 99 item pool are all but randomly placed in our hands, we don't have all the information necessary to accurately understand each players motivations or even understanding of an ever chaning boardstate. Being a target is certainly not precedented any one particuliar card, or on precieved future plans of any one opponent. The best we can hope for is that a person sitting across from us is able to, for themself, understand and react according to the will of the group in accordance with their own personal strategy and precieved future outlook.

>>46139720
> Fuck Narset.
Yeah, that seems right
>>
>>46139875
Adding on to that, I think it's important to remember that analyzing a board state and determining each players threat level is pretty darn difficult. In a format of organic board states and massive differences in deck and player skill/power level, one can be just as misguided always attacking the guy with the oppressive deck, thus letting someone else build-up their own oppressive board state, as he can be in giving the same oppressive deck a break for a turn, only for the deck to make a one-turn comeback. EDH often comes down to doing the best with what you're got. Now, that doesn't excuse players from believing that there is no such thing as functional threat assessment, nor should it entice people to continuing being bad at it, but in a format of "one-turn blowouts out of fucking nowhere", judging a particular players threat level at a particular point in the game is never an exact science

>>
>>46143258
I would argue that wotc's adamant refuse to reprint in demand cards is the worst thing in MTG. the game is constantly growing and now the player base and therefore the demand for cards is much larger than what was anticipated and printed into supply even just 5 years ago. the price of cards from older sets will only continue to rise to more and more unreasonable levels until the game dies or wotc changes its stance on reprints.

Listen, bud. There were some mistakes in commander 2013. Derevi, maybe Prosh and Oloro, all wound up being problem commanders. That said, they haven't fucked up lately. I really doubted their ability to not fuck up and I was preemptively saying planeswalker commanders would ruin the format, and I then claimed experience points were the worst idea ever, but really, they seem to have learned their lesson since 2013. The planeswalker commanders were fine, Daretti is probably too powerful but fuck it, he's fun and not nearly as oppressive as Derevi. The experience counters haven't been an issue anywhere I play, if anything they're a way to prevent excessive durdling.

The main issue with 2013 was that its commanders promoted uninteractive games. You can't get rid of Derevi, don't even try. Removing Prossh only makes his dick harder. Oloro doesn't even have to leave the command zone. Having these in a format encourages people to just play goldfish decks. The 2014 and 2015 decks don't do that: if anything, the planeswalker commanders encourage committing to the board quickly and early, with a reasonable mana curve, to be able to threaten them.

Just getting into building for EDH and I'm kinda struggling with my manabase. How many more than one mana type land is too many? How many artifacts that tap for different types of many should I bring?

I'm currently working on hammering out a zurgo deck and I'm having problems with the aformentioned things as well as what cheaper cost creatures I should bring. The EDHREC list gave me a good spread of mid to high range costing creatures, but I'm kinda struggling with the decks early game.
>>
>>46150290
Helmsmasher or Bellstriker?
>>
>>46150290
Early game shouldn't be too exciting for Zurgo. Maybe some setup equipment creatures or equipment.

You don't want more than a third of your lands to be tapped lands. As far as duals, be as greedy as you want, but again, no more than a third

http://tappedout.net/mtg-deckpaste/1v1-isamaru-commander-competitive/

Designed to be 1v1 competitive, but not Duel. The deck goes all in on Isamaru and commander damage. The deck should win no later than turn 5 but has ways to go longer if needed (I won a game on turn 24 after casting Isamaru 8 times).

Main strategy is voltron with stax/control backup. Lots of cheap and diverse ways to pump Isamaru and give him evasion.

>How many more than one mana type land is too many?
Not exactly sure what you're asking. Jam in as many fast multicolor lands as possible. Fetches and shocks if your budget can handle them. Also checklands, painlands, tangolands, etc. Only put in insanely cheap, slow shit like guildgates if you're under a very tight budget. Most of the time you're better off with basics.
>How many artifacts that tap for different types of many should I bring?
Depends on the curve. 3-15. Tricolor is easy since you get three signets and other cheap mana rocks.

So if I understand all the mechanics on this correctly, I can cycle it, which would require me to discard it, which would allow me to cast it for its madness cost, which would allow me to pay kicker and buyback costs on it? What an idiot. One is all you need. No wonder the other guy was trying to pull him away, the Neurok clearly has no idea what he's doing.

Neat. I was always told that pure voltron was a bad tactic because it was too easy to counter. It's cool to see that it can work.

Not a vedalken, it's a human for sure. I recognize the character but I can't recall the card. It's a blue robed guy with a helmet covering his head and eyes, with two black streamers on the sides. I think it's a blue creature card from one of the Mirrodin blocks.

>>46150789
Definitely it's that staff, nice catch. Zoomed really far in, the black shadowy thing appears to be clutching the staff with both arms/hands.

>>
>>46151026
Stax is an archetype focused around controlling the board by keeping permanents tapped or making people sacrifice them and making it harder to cast spells. There's more to it than that, but that's the general gist of it. It's named Stax after the card Smokestack, which is an integral part of many such decks.
>>
>>46151026
Comes from the card smokestacks. It's a lockdown deck that forces enemies to sac permanents.

>>46151026
stax is an archetype that was named after the card smokestack. it focuses on a game plan of resource denial such as forcing everyone to sacrifice lands or discard their hand or similar. usually your deck is built with a certain way to circumvent the resource denial yourself and use your tiny bit of advantage to win over your opponent.
>>
>>46151085

He's a 7/7 for 4. That's all he does. There's nothing you can do with him that you can't do with any other creature. He's just big for his cost.

You could, however, consider the random attack an upside. Depending on how casual (or maybe stupid) your opponents are, they might not take an early attack by a big commander personally since it was "out of your control". Pretend you're innocent and you could get some good attacks in before they see it as a real threat.
