1- Choose a faction;
>Imperial Guard - Very Required
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/igpbeta2.php
>Space Marines - Very Required
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/smpbeta.php
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/tsmp.php
>Sisters of Battle - Minor role but welcome
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/sisterp.php
>Eldar - Really really minor role(1-2 different groups at most)
http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/painter.jsp?i=38
>Chaos SM - Minor role but welcome
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/csmp.php
EXTENDED EDITION
>Knight background story(individual knight or knight house)
>Mechanicum Forgeworld(Specific forgeworld YOU created - use robed SM painter for reference)
>Inquisitorial Minor Ordos(Without getting over your head. EX: My Ordos controls the Emperor's corpse!!!)
>Individual characters, background or characterization(Ex: Sergeant X from the Amazings regiment)
>Ecclesiarchial groups, priest armies & religious groups/religions.
>Planets
>Ideas(Anything about everything)

2- Use the coloring books to make your own faction, DOW/SM painters also welcome.

3- Name the faction(I suggest googling it for doubles)

4- Fill in some lore(Optional but appreciated)

5- Post it(Post a name or alias if you want to be credited, otherwise it is credited as anon)

6- Wait for months(literally) while I put them all together in my brain that fairly lacks cognitive capabilities.

Chiming in with the Deathtakers Tzeentch Warband! Copying lore over from the colors thread:

Here's the heretical color scheme. Their road to heresy began when they started to doubt the Emperor's chance of living, and were particularly alarmed by a Lord of Change's claim that he would become a new chaos god upon death, uncaring if not outright cruel to his old subjects.

As such, they began searching for any method necessary to try and return the emperor to life, secretly dabbling in technology to revitalize cells and outright heal corpses. However, when the battle brothers they experimented on returned as outright comatose slabs of meat, their souls already taken by the warp, they soon gave up hope, until the Lord of Change, thought dead, whispered into the mind of the Chapter Master.

Dabbling in Tzeentchian magics, the convene of Librarians, the Chief Librarian possessed by the same Lord of Change, used a particular spell on the preserved corpses that managed to bring them back, complete with the ability to move and think - only many of them were utterly soulless and warped, their souls having already been devoured by the thirsting gods, and those that did not had been warped into evil by the dark magics. With both the husks and the crazed acting cruel and violent whenever set loose in battle, it was not long until the Emerald Falcons were marked for investigation by an Inquisitor, and as such, the Chapter fled into the eye of terror.

>Some idea on what's going on:
I had this idea of making a really complex and integrated story about Imperial factions after a major crusade. Considering the size of the galaxy a crusade must require thousands of regiments and hundreds of Chapters to conduct. Which also leaves them with spoils of war in the end. I could have just populate the whole thing from my drafts but I figured it would be more fun and challenging to fill the factions with anon made ones. So here we are.

>Disclaimers:
-I store all contributions and work them into the story one way or another, so don't hesitate to contribute.
-No Orks no ork related anything, I'm writing Orks right now and I'm fed with it. No zoggin Orkz, ya 'ear!
-Try to make the factions as unique as possible(it's YOUR faction after all). Theme, military focus and characterization is what makes a faction alive most of the time.
Here is an example from an official chapter. Black Templars are gothic space knights(theme), they use close combat whenever possible(military), special characters in the codex(charz)
-If you submitted in a previous thread know that its been kept safe.
-Post the HTML codes of your colors if you want an accurate representation, otherwise I pick the colors using gimp which might not be exact.
-Creator names for the factions cannot be changed after the first initialization, if you want to be added as a creator to an already made faction you need to contribute newer fluff almost as much as the OC. Even if the OC is credited as anon you can only be credited beside him. This is done to prevent miscrediting.

It was quickly discovered that the same wretched magics unleashed by the possessed Chief Librarian had utterly and totally fucked the Geneseed of the chapter, and as such, in order to expand their ranks and escape extinction, they were forced to make further use of the vile sorcery on Marines they slew in battle. Over time their vision was corrupted, though the new Overlord of the warband orders that all of the resurrected's armor have their right arm painted with the warband's old colors, and rumor has it he still seeks to use the magic to resurrect the emperor, blind to impossibility of the accursed task.

Old pic, my bad.

Im thinking of all female inquisitorial ordos, Ordos Femitus or something. They wear power armor and undergo superior bio-surgery than a sororitas. Probably the magos biologic is on these "experiments" which are alien tech in design. Experiments need to have grave drawbacks such as mutations or even genetic alterations(turned into alien).

>>46114401
Maybe they are worshipping an Enslaver.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Enslaver
>carry large tanks of water
They could carry them in vials for ritual purposes but I dont think they need scientific reasoning for chaos. They could just manifest water from the warp just as manifesting blood when a khorne invasion happens.
I dont know how they would use water as a conduit for warp-powers. In lovecraft you dont exactly sacrifice anything for water but rather for cthul-chan himself. Also I dont want to do any drowning since its similar to those viking guys in ice and fire series.

Is it cool to suggest other homebrews /tg/ is currently shitting out for this? Cus, there's at least three other good ones going on right now, and one that's up in the air
>>
>>46127369
Feel free, I was also going to suggest the Conservators, they could use some loot a crusade brings.
>>
>>46127620
Conservators are badass, but right now there's the Golden Spectres, Shards of Hammerthrone/watch, and the Hua Yuan Exterminators that are all pretty cool. There's also the Sanguine shields that are dubiously alive
>>
>>46127169
>should I also make enemies for the crusade
Story will being at the end of the crusade and since they were fighting the Orks(and winning). But the place is huge so its totally possible for any group to be there for one reason or another. Just no Necrons, Orks, Tyranid or Tau.
It might sound "oh so boring imperial story." but its actually about the Imperium in itself not about the awesomeness of Imperium or GW-like marine jerk off.
Also its not Badab War v2 with such clear lines of whats good or bad.
That is why I call them factions and not chapters, you can come up with a group of people who are just pirates or looters. Or some group like Last Chancers.
Regiments are always welcome and thanks I also store the threads as links and as pdf so I dont miss anything.

>>46127369
It is. Its more gent-like if you direct the original creators here or just tell when you reference a faction you did not create so I can credit as anon. But if you just tell it's yours(even though it isnt) I dont mind it, its their fault for not posting here. I also greatly appreciate if anons direct me to old archived tg lore on 40K. You can also suggest stuff from 1d4c or forums. Or just pop out ideas, they turn out to be good one way or another.

>Bumping with wallpaper for your pleasure.
>Sleepy-time.
>>
>>46126634
If they can summon water/rain/mist just from chaos powers then that is fine.

I am not crazy about the Enslaver idea, there is too much direct mind control. Maybe the squid monsters on the Ice planet are actually really intelligent, chaos worshiping psykers. That spread their own worship of the minor chaos god to the planets human settlers that then converted the Abyssal Tridents.

This would also explain the chapter's xenophillia.

Perhaps the tanks of water contain the said monsters and after invading a planet, they leave some of the Psyquids (Psyker Squids) behind as a colony. Or is that too much?

Here ya go OP: The 1st Cerulean Eagles.

Hailing from the abnormally large Abhuman Hive City (An infamous name dating back to when the planet was inhabited by a great deal of abhumans) on the Hive World "Magnum Mare", these guardsmen are VERY well connected.
Unlike previous regiments to come from the Hive World, the Cerulean Eagles are comprised completely of the most able youth of the Upper Hive. This was done so in order to create a "mascot" force that would serve to dissuade the already negative reputation that a place like "Abhuman City" would bring about. In order to make them appear as prestigious as possible, the nobles of Abhuman City pulled large favors from the Hive World of a moon that orbits Magnum Mare, amassing a large quantity of master-crafted bikes for their pet regiment, armed with heavy weapons of similar quality.
The Cerulean Eagles serve as a fast attack regiment, with the majority of their force performing hit-and-run raids on bikes, hounding down enemy convoys with anti-armor weaponry and providing temporary support for allied forces. The small rest of the force serves as artillery spotters and deep-cover scouts, keeping tabs on enemy locations to maximize the effectiveness of their bike attacks.
>>
File: jetski.jpg (9 KB, 480x360) Image search: [Google]
jetski.jpg
9 KB, 480x360
>>46128566
The Cerulean Eagles are not only effective on-land, however. Given that their homeworld of Magnum Mare has vast oceans, it is only natural that they also be given aquatic training. In case the environment the Cerulean Eagles are fighting features large quagmires or other such bodies of water, they have been trained in the use of jet ski-like amphibious attack bikes created by the Forgeworld moon, allowing them to conduct surprise attacks on otherwise safe enemies.

In this Crusade, their primary goal has been to give off as magnificent of an impression they can. To this end, they have often tried to blend style and function into one, creating a unique fighting style that is part showman and part soldier, dazzling allies and enemies alike. They frequently claim credit for any engagement they are a part of, much to the chagrin of allied forces that partook in those same battles; this has won them the eyes of their superiors as well as the hatred of their peers.

Imperial Storm trooper regiment.
>Grenadiers: Elite troops taken from veterans of a planet's existing regiments.
>Ocean World
>Airvorne specialists
>Trench warfare (Dig those trenches boys, I want this beach defense to make even Dorn proud.)
>They have a Special Vehicle
>Company leadership of Guard officers
>Regiment size is massive 800-1000 men.
>Regiment reknown: Well known
>Company demeanour:Strong willed, they shrug off psychic shenanigans
>Company friends scholastica psykana
>Company enemies:Dark eldar

Let's work some magic on these guys.
>>
>>46128566
>>46128881
Actually, come to think of it, it being a Hive World isn't too smart.
Maybe just a solitary Hive on an Ocean World, or something to similar effect.
Actually, maybe even a Pleasure World would work - It would mesh well with the petty sense of pride their Hive had as well as the showmanship attitude.

And hey, just because Wardens Chapter Master posted IG Regiment Creation Table stuff, I will too. Rollan for everything not stated above while I'm at it.
>Nobility: Bought their commission for honor and glory.
>Elite tithe: The best of the best of the planet were recruited for this regiment.
>Imperial World: Devout citizens, loyal to the Imperium and raised by the Creed.
>Ocean: They grew up in the dangers of the depths.
>Mechanized Infantry/Armored
>Lightning Strike
>Adherent: Hold fast to the Creed and His will.
>Special Vehicle: Amphibious Attack Bikes
>For The Homeworld: This regiment's mission is to demonstrate the skill and steel of the homeworld to the rest of the Imperium.
>Favored Ally: Adeptus Mechanicus
>Favored Enemy (Rolled 81): Chaos-Aligned Group

So, seeing as I got a Chaos group as an enemy (And my guys feature amphibious stuff), why not have it be the Abyssal Tridents? Thematically appropriate, and gives good depth to the conflict if certain factions involved have grudges.

Something I did real quick

>Sons of Illyrios
The Sons of Illyrios are a Ultramarine successor chapter who base their doctrines and beliefs after the controversial battle brother Illyrios. Illyrios was natorious within the chapter, using controversial and brutal tactics on the battlefield, but lead many successful operations. His supports eventually became too numerous to ignore, so the sons of Illyrios were created to combat Ork presence on the fringe, but were also a way to avoid an internal conflict. Due to their proud and rebellious attitude and unsightly doctrine, the have few friends within the Imperium, save, curiously, the Assasinorum

The Abyss Mystics

Quick version of their fluff:

>Originally a White Scars successor but this was so long ago this is basically forgotten, but they have a Hindu/Tibetan Buddhist feel to their ascetics and names

>Seers and ritualists (seriously, they're obsessed with Rituals) who worship Chaos (or more accurately, the entirety of the Warp and all forces within) as a Pantheon, so are technically Chaos Unidivded

>live in a city created from the inside of a dead Void Whale

>in battle they use their high number of sorcerers to conduct a fast, asymmetrical form of warfare with an emphasis on achieving air superiority with lots of deep strikes, drop pod assaults and the use of daemons and cultists as diversions. Lots of bikes, infiltration specialists and Helldrakes/other aircraft. Limited heavy armour, though Defilers/Brass Scorpions are fairly common.

>loosely organised and prone to infighting to an even greater degree than other traitors due to a somewhat democratic hierarchy

>In battle, an Abyss Mystic vox feed is a seemingly meaningless and deafening combination of chanting, screaming and throat singing. In truth, each mantra is the confirmation of a command, conducted by whoever leads them, a single part in a wider battle-song.

>Abyss Mystics view war, the act of sending millions of souls to the Warp, as the holiest of all rites, so their battlefields are in fact massive ritual spaces, and the battle song of their Astartes is the choir of a fanatical congregation.

>while their understanding of the Warp is extensive and their warriors brutal in combat, many other servants of Chaos view them as little more than foolhardy isolationists who would sooner lose their minds attempting to know the unknowable than fight in the Long War. The Word Bearers in particular bear a high degree of antipathy against the Abyss Mystics due to their conflicting visions of the Dark Pantheon.

May as well just copypaste the fluff I generated for my sisters. Their armour's meant to be white, but B&C puts it out as a grey

Order of the Enduring Light
Derived from Order of the Bloody Rose
Founded to defend a strategic position. Based on a lifeless world of endless deserts, with the Order being the only creatures on the whole planet. The system is based at the entrance to a warp storm encompassing several other, highly populated systems. The Ecclesiarchy ordered the foundation of the order as a bulwark against chaos. Periodically humans manage to escape from the centre of the storm. Out of fear of chaos, the Order will typically annihilate them entirely.
Very hostile towards Space Marines, I guess there were Astartes in the warp stormed area who went crazy and screwed the order over, killed their Canoness who was proclaimed a Saint for her long crusade against Chaos in the Order of the Bloody Rose.
Known for overzealous purification of areas. Will burn an entire area and let the Emperor decide on the just.
Typical organisation. Focus on close combat with an emphasis on flame-based weaponry.
Strong belief in the purity and holiness of the human form. Any deviation or mutation is considered to be heretical. Sisters of the Order would rather be crippled or paralysed than replace a limb with a mechanical one. Penitent Engines and the like don’t have the same stigma attached to them, as they are reserved for former criminals or heretics seeking redemption in battle, and have already desecrated the sanctity of the human form.
It’s not uncommon for a member of the Order of the Bloody Rose to be join them, either on a permanent or temporary basis. This is generally used as an act of contrition for a Sister who believes themselves to have failed to execute the Emperor’s will without fucking up so badly that they join the repentia, or if a Sister has a particular hatred towards Chaos and wants to dedicate their lives to fighting against them.

I bring you Grey Knights

>The Brotherhood was formed a time after the Grey Knight's inception, as growing needs for it were confirmed. There is no founding Heresey era Astartes.
>They are known to the Chapter as well as the Ordo Malleus. They are as secret as other Brotherhoods, but they're members are rarely selected to help the Inquisition.
>A versatile good mix, but largely average aged and experienced Grey Knights.
>Gran Master personality Extroverted. Goes by his gut feeling on things. Lead's by example and combat. The extravagant knight.
>Personal creed Fealty above all - "I shall make my penance on the battlefield."
>Figure of legend Brotherhood champion
>The Grey Knight demolished a huge amalgamation of Daemon and Metal and sent it back to the warp with it's servant daemons reeling from the repercussions.
>Fleet Size A couple, or a few cruisers. They also have a good amount of supporting strike craft.
>2 Terminator Squads (Needs reinforcing)
>4 Interceptor Squads (Medium)
>5 Purgation Squads (Above Average)
>6 Strike Squads (High)
>3 Dreadnoughts (Above Average)
>Strategy Rapid Insertion - Teleportation and multi-assaults are the hallmark of the brotherhood. They prefer surprise, and catching the enemy off guard with pinpoint attacks
>Prefered enemies (got lucky with a 10) Chaos Undivided - The Hatred for all Chaos Gods is equal. The Brotherhood has either never been assailed horribly enough by one God, or has simply fought them all equally.
>Custom heraldry and paint job? (good idea to keep the base color silverish/greyish)
Grand Master name + title, and ship names.
What general mentality does this Brotherhood have towards other Organizations?
Do they prefer certain weapons, do they have any notable relics?
Areas of the galaxy they like to crusade at?
relationships with other Brotherhoods and the Paladin/Purifier orders?

>>

I think The Mystics of Nakara would fit in well here, due to their view of the Warp and all forces within. They view the Emperor's position in the Warp as that of a 'corruptor', something that brings order to the orderless and creates stagnation and sterility (think of the relationship between Sheogorath and Jyggalag from The Elder Scrolls), so the Sisters of Battle are perhaps the greatest example of the Emperor's Warp influence, what with their living Saints and all.

>Demeanor
The Order of His Abiding Grace is a minor militant section of the Sororitas, created to garrison the holy world of Clotaire V. They take many cues from their parent order, the Sacred Rose, including a preference for long-ranged combat compared to other sisters of battle. Likewise, they consider it more appropriate to display coolness under fire, rather than the fanatical enthusiasm or battle rage cultivated by other orders. Furthermore, operating in their planet’s arduous forest environment has given the sisters some experience with survival techniques and irregular deployment. Remaining isolated on a moderately popular shrine world has also caused the Abiding Grace to become less well-connected to other Ecclesiarchal institutions than many other orders, which in turn casts a slight air of mystery and even mistrust upon them.

>Canoness Roanelle
The Abiding Grace has dedicated most of its strength to the Arcnus Crusade, including that of its superior, the Canoness Hortence Roanelle. She, along with the various other Imperial leaders congregating in the sector, is expected to both lead her own forces and coordinate with other elements in the fight against the Orks. She has made it a point to stand distinct from the Militarum generals and Astartes chapter masters who now surround her, meeting their military curtness with the comfortable superiority of an Imperial noblewoman. As infuriating as this disposition may be, her attempts at internal diplomacy have had some real success in tempering the friction caused by so many strong personalities intersecting. In any case, Roanelle is determined to bring all of her warrior prowess to bear in the face of this threat, and has few scruples about wielding some of her allies’ strength as well.

>The Mystics of Naraka
One of the more mysterious aspects of the Order of His Abiding Grace was its decision to appear at Arcnus with so many of its assets. The world they are sworn to guard does not seem to be in the path of the Waaagh (insofar as the movements of Orks can be predicted at all), and the order has not taken up any new crusading vows. That being said, those privy to such knowledge are not keen to look this gift grox in the mouth, for the Imperial forces need all the help they can get at this juncture. However, there are whispers that the Abiding Grace’s involvement can be attributed to a point of honor which the sisters are eager to address. It is said that a particular warband of Chaos space marines has attracted the Abiding Grace here with promise of battle. These traitors call themselves the Mystics of Naraka, and it is they who slew the living Saint Clotaire, for whom the order’s home system is named. But all that’s just rumor, so take it with a grain of salt, if you even know what salt is.

Still open to input, but I think that should do for now.

305th Telgarian Rifles.jpg

The 305th Telgarian Rifles hail from the fortress world of Telarius, a dry planet covered in dusty plains and the occassional patch of scrubland. At the age of 6 all Telgarian males are taken away from their families and brought to one of the planet's many fortress academies where they are raised to be soldiers and trained in most forms of combat via a routine of rigorous and grueling training exercises. By the age of ten almost two thirds of the trainees will have dropped out due to incompetance or injury, they are sent back home where they are expected to return to civilian life. The remaining third will be given further training for the next 7 years with the best of them being selected to form the planet's next guard regiment, the rest are placed into the local PDF. On the planet there also resides a small population of Ogryn, these abhumans are required to hand over a number of their male offspring who are raised seperately from the regular Telgarian trainees, two years before they complete their training the Ogryn and normal soldiers are integrated and taught how to fight alonside one another.

In the field the 305th Telgarian Rifles are a by the book example of standart Talgarian combat doctrine with a heavy emphasis on infantyry supported by fast scouting vehicles. Their Ogryn are often outfitted with carapace armour and slab shields so that they can act as shock troops while the regular infantry follow behind them using diciplined mass fire to take down their enemies. Each platoon usually has a small force of armoured sentinels supporting them along with a number of taurox transports. They commonly emply flamers and greade launchers amongst their regular infantry along with very rare veteran squads armed with demo charges and meltaguns.

The 305th are led by Commander Caid Avarus, a vetern of 30 years of constant grinding warfare. He's known for being tough but fare with those under his command and uses a power fist in combat. His command squad are often alongside the front line fighters, encouraging them to march on while holding the regimental standard high for all to witness.

Secretive organization, just roams the place for purging deamons, doesnt care about Imperial forces, use them as cannon-fodder.
Some chapters got duped by them (left alone in the most crucial point in battle) as the GK left them to pursue some deamon that they actually cared about.
Speciality: Boarding, Rapid deployment & Assasination.

Personally I think its way harder to come up with a unique regiment than a Chapter, solely because GW grabbed all the good bits(Nazis, French, Murican, British, Arnolds, Arabs and so on.). If only we could have some people who turn their own country's historical military to regiments.
Like vietcong regiment or something.

Dark Eldars would be good, lots of sick perverted stuff.

Also dumping some ideas:
- One man chapter
- Abhuman factions(specific mutation)
- Squat ideas
- Groups of people, just inhabitants or someone with an agenda.

>My Fellow Militarium
Working on a regiment now, but I have to say I love this regiment. It uses my favorite color schemes (reds and browns) and uses a lot of light armor and fast attack, my preferred tactical composition I can't wait to see more fluff on these.

>Age: Remnants of a Noble House (more than 5,000 years old)
>Ruler is a Usurping Drachon
>He is a Calculating and Curious Archon, newly risen he must proceed with caution in this new place he finds him self in.
> Curious The Archon is driven by curiosity about the universe more than anything else.
>Calculating The Archon's ability to out-plan everybody else rivals that of Vect himself.
>Origin of Pirates
>Demeanour Purity Above All - A particular hatred of psykers, for the attention from She Who Thirsts that they bring.
>Flaw Eye to Eye - The Kabal finds pleasure only in the slaughter of hand-to-hand combat.
>They opperate out of some average slums of Commoragh
>Tactics Performance art-Agony
>Resource-Incubus shrine
>Signature weapon- Slave hunting focus
>Currently not betraying an Haemonculus Coven
>Goal is to have a fearsome reputation

except that they're Druchii in space.

Will someone help me flesh these guys out?

My guess is that these guys came here after the crusade just finished to pick off the least defended planets that the Crusade has brought into compliance and moved on from.

That Storm Trooper regiment I rolled could be called to counteract these guys since they hate the Dark Eldar, maybe they build a rivalry after a couple engagements?
Ok so I know next to nothing about Dark Eldar
