Emrakul disappears mysteriously from Zendikar. Innistrad suddenly becomes twisted and contorted in disturbing ways, and it's inhabitants are suffering from mutations and "eldritch" things. Emrakul us the titan of mutation and corruption. Nahiri is either under her control, just like Avacyn, or Nahiri is actuslly ape shit mad and going to destroy Innistrad for Sorin's absence when she called to him for help. Look at the art. It very much resembles tentacles and corruption.

It's practically called shadow over innismouth, emrakul is Cthulhu.
>>
>Emrakul is """"""""Lovecraftian"""""""""""
If Emrakul really was Lovecraftian, then the very act of her appearing on Zendikar should have driven everyone insane in an hour and then killed everyone the next. The fact that they were even sealed away means wizards failed in creating a Lovecraft based monster
>>
>>46098475
Wizards and other magic folk can fight back in the Lovecraft mythos. Notably Randolph Carter foiling Nyalarthotep's plans in the Dreamquest.
>>

>>
>>46096601
>Emrakul has a monopoly on spooky tentacles
In addition, emra-chan doesn't drive people insane, that's kozilek's job. Emrakul forces them into servitude.
>>
It would be cool to see a new Titan, along with Emrakul. Maybe there are a large number of titans just floating around in the Blind Eternities. Then because of this fact, the planeswalkers have to find a way to lock the Blind Eternities up so that nothing can escape it.
I dunno. Just a thought.
>>
>>46098718
If the Blind Eternities were locked, then they couldn't Planeswalk.
>>
>>46098569

I also have a feeling Ugin is going step in at some point, shake his head in disapproval of these children who think they're powerful planeswalkers, and then do something incredibly drastic that with alter the mtg story immensely.
>>
>>46098755
Not all of Lovecraft's horrors were unfathomable.

I don't know if this card is directly referencing the Blind Eternities or if it's just sort of cryptic, bit it has me thinking that someone is going to see something unfathomable, and I think it is related to the BE.
Also, I can't tell who the figure is in the picture.
>>
>>46098718

You have to pass through the blind eternities to get between planes. Its the space between planes. You cant really lock it up. You could maybe lock up individual planes but there are possibly an infinite number of them.
>>
>Jace gets the superfriends and duplicates the OGW
>Emrakul destroys or severely fucks up a beloved plane

>>
>>46098475
Incorrect,

'Lovecraftian' horror is the existential dread entailed in finding yourself in measure against such creatures. Not merely because they 'warp reality' 'corrupt flesh' 'drive you insane' or are 'big scary monsters'. They don't even really warp reality at all.

WE are the small insignificant ants unable to see the real working of the universe because its not 'our' rational understandable universe at all.

We can inconvenience them perhaps, but in the fullness of time they will prevail.

That is what causes the insanity and breakdowns. Coming to understand you are nothing, not insanity check lol.

Oh shit son, look who hasn't actually read any of the Lovemeistros work.

Cthulhu does get briefly summoned in his own story. He kills a couple sailors, but 2 get away on foot in the C-man's home city. Then they ram him with their boat and he goes back to sleep.

The people that saw him sure as fuck went insane, and a few artists had nightmares for a couple days, but that's it. Him showing up briefly is not a world destroying event, only a few very curious people even know about it.
>>
>>46099211

Also, the stars weren't right. That's why he was able to be killed. Moreover, there's never any confirmation that it was actually Cthulhu himself.

So guys, guys. In Innistrad silver can be used to imprison things "inside" it, case in point the Helvault, and on Innistrad all silver comes from the moon. If the next set is Eldritch Moon, and the shape of Avacyn's collar has warped into the Heron on the moon, then what could be trapped there?
>>
>>46099714

Ok, what about 8<><><><><>?
>>
They key problem with the current Eldrazi, and their defeat, is that it wasn't properly explained/illustrated. Any story with a group of super heroes defeating a villain has a fairly basic arc. Heroes get together, heroes get beaten by villain, heroes break apart, heroes get back together, heroes defeat villain.

This is normally fine, and we'd all accept it if it was explained well enough. The problem isn't that the super friends won, or even how they won, it was that it didn't feel like they worked towards it or it that it had precedent. Every time a hero defeats a villain that previously seemed extremely powerful, it's just because the writer is making it that way.

Well, they have extra eyes, and that was never really Emrakul's thing. Surely this is the work of some other non-Eldrazi force, right guys? Surely Wizards will throw us a curve ball and hit us with a cool blast from the past like Marit Lage, right? I mean, Emrakul isn't the only one with tentacles and plane shattering powers, right guys? Wizards wouldn't settle for the most obvious fucking big bad to throw at the plane and act like the fuckery occurring from her presence is some big spooky mystery, especially so considering that we just dealt with a bunch of Eldrazi bullshit and they've already grown old, right?

Right?
I knew from the start it was going to be Emrakul's fat ass over Innestrad and I'm still disappointed.
>>
I'm hoping it's not Emrakul because we need a new threat before resolving that one quickly. Once Emrakul's down it's back to Bolas or off to a new plane and that's just limiting options.
Hitting up Emrakul immediately after misses 3 key points of drama:
1. loses the gravitas of her leaving Zendikar to begin with. There's no threat if she turns up immediately on the very next plane you go to. Ugin's whole ominous "they must not leave this plane" shtick is lobbed out the window.
2. It removes the entire reason Jace was going to Innistrad, to find Sorin to learn how to locate Emrakul. If he just goes to Innistrad and finds Emrakul, then finding Sorin was a pointless endeavor.
3. It's goddamn lazy to just do another Eldrazi block right after another. Repetition is bad.
>>
>>46110092
>'m hoping it's not Emrakul because we need a new threat before resolving that one quickly.
Anon, you're missing the big picture. Emrakul gets defeated here on Innistrad and is forced to flee to Phyrexia for the next Mirrodin United block, where she's easily converted having already been weakened and becomes part of Innestrad's invasion forces in the following Invasion of Ravnica block! We get Eldrazi in 4 blocks running! AREN'T YOU EXCITED TO PLAY NEW AND EXCITING ELDRAZI(ARTIFACT ELDRAZI, CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE IT?!) AND REVISIT ALL YOUR FAVORITE PLANES?!

New Phyrexia's*. I'm so excited for I can't even keep the planes we'll keep returning to straight!

I honestly think we are going to have a return to Theros before New Phyrexia.

With the Phyrexians being such an integral part of Elspeth's story, it would be criminal to wrap up the threat of New Phyrexia without getting her back from the Underworld first.

>return to Theros
What would the plot be? Elspeth taking over and running shit? Gods vs Gods again? Ajani succeeds in spreading his euphoric enlightenment to the population?

Well last we saw Dack Fayden he was sneaking into Theros' underworld.

I'm thinking something where Dack Fayden runs in to Elspeth in the Underworld and they help each other to escape. Along the way they find Xenagos down there and realize it will take their combined efforts to get free and retain their souls.

Ajani would get the B plot with an above ground rebellion against the Gods.

Ready made name for one of the sets: Apotheosis.

Ajani spreads enlightenment, causing elspeth to ascend to godhood. Dack is about to get fucked up by ashiok in the underworld when god elspeth swoops in to reattach his soul firmly to his body so he can leave theros. Xenagos becomes the new god of the dead and turns jund as repayment for trying to shake up the pantheon and helping elspeth.

I love it so far. How does it end?
If it's going where I think, brilliant name.

>Elspeth is Theros Jesus
>Converting an entire plane from Polytheism to Waifuism in a single block

Fund it. Now if only she can find a way to weaponize her Godhood and take it with her to other planes to fight Phyrexia.

Well, according to the Theros novels the Gods derive their power from the faith their believers have in them. So with Apotheosis they would abandon the old gods who would be desperate in trying to retain as many followers as they could. This could to lead in to them bleeding into other colors or receiving cards depicting them as mortal.

In the follow up set you could establish a protagonist like Ajani or Elspeth taking their place, becoming the new God of Theros. After all, people need something to believe in. Who else if not the martyr that saved them from the wild revels of Xenagos or her "prophet," Ajani? Hell, the seeds for something like that are already planted with Ajani wandering Theros telling people how Heliod and the other gods dicked over Elspeth.

Love it. Especially Ajani being her prophet. She's the one character I can actually see being deserving of godhood as well.
