If it's meant to be quaffed, it's probably meant to affect your stomach or - if your magic is sciency - it's meant to be biochemically broken down or activated along the digestive path.
So either it's not gonna do anything, or it's gonna have side-effects because it was put into the wrong environment or because it was injected at a way higher concentration compared to digestion gradually introducing it to the blood stream.
