Bloodborne is now officially /tg/, lore discussion is acceptable

>Bloodborne is coming soon to a table near you; CMON Games and Eric Lang, designer on XCOM: The Board Game, have revealed an official card game adaptation of From Software's game about walking nightmares and the Hunters who slay them.

>Exact details on how the game will work have yet to be revealed, but Lang wrote on Twitter that play is based not on the story, but on the game's Chalice Dungeons - semi-randomized dungeons with monsters, traps, and bosses lying in wait at the end. Players compete to kill monsters, with each session of play taking around 30 minutes. There will be no teensy-tiny Hunters to move about, but Lang nonentheless promises "sweet components."

As long as they don't use the mandatory forced use of an app or website to play the board game like they did for the X-COM board game then sure i'll be interested.

You're really missing out. Hybrid digital/physical gaming is a new area of game design which is producing some rally interesting experiences.

>You're really missing out. Hybrid digital/physical gaming is a new area of game design which is producing some rally interesting experiences.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if they let me have an alternative way of playing the game out with say a randomized event deck or something but being forced to be "online" to play a board game is kind of a miss for me.

For instance in Space Alert the real time mode can be used with either app, mp3, cd player or randomized deck. I always have the option to choose and play with one of said modes rather than being forced to use one digital mode.
>>
>>46070641
even the doll, if you like
>>
>>46070692

While I can sorta see that, trying to make everything function 'offline' is limiting to game design. Hybrid gaming isn't just a matter of convenience, it lets you create unique gaming experiences that wouldn't be possible without the interaction between physical and digital elements. I think it has value on that basis.

You have to be online long enough to download an app, once its installed you don't need to be connected to the internet and said app is on ios, android and you can get it on a PC. It's not hard to imagine people being able to access the internet for the short time it takes to get the app.

To be fair, I can see drawing inspiration from the randomly generated sections of the game for the purposes of a repayable card game.

I dont have a PS4 and as such will never play bloodborne. I instead get to watch youtube videos and envy others. Im hoping this game is good.

Course by then ill be playing dark souls 3. Which does not have tricorner hats.

The 'brain' is comprised of messenger corpses.

Man and beasts bleed red
Kin the intermediate stage between man and Great One bleed a pale yellowish fluid.
True Great One's bleed pure white or 'pale blood'

Incidentally the Doll bleeds pure white if you were ever sick enough to try and kill her.

It's obviously going to have some sort of tile system where you randomly generate the labyrinth, do you faggots actually think it's going to be the boardgame equivalent of grinding for gems?

jesus fuck
>>
>>46090247
I use the labyrinth as some extra few hours of adventures in Bloodborne to come back from time to time - they do that just fine as additional content outside of the main game goes.

But yeah, I would prefer if they didn't advertise game as being based on the chalice dungeons, most people don't like them. There's literally no reason to not to use Tharnam instead - it's a big city filled by beasts so you could randomly generate the streets an monsters and people would be way more excited about it.
>>
>>46070641
The doll isn't antagonistic, she's your Wet Nurse after all. Maybe she's Oedon, but in any case she never acts against the player yet she does help and care for them. The Great Ones aren't the bad guys in Bloodborne, and they are usually pretty helpful and friendly. Rather than cruel gods, they're more like aliens who desire human companionship.

Mensis are the ones fucking everything up.

No, True Great Ones bleed an incredibly dark-red blood; much darker than human and beast blood.
It's kin who bleed the clear paleblood. That's why, when you get the secret ending, you've succeeded in seeking paleblood.

>>46090750
The doll isn't Oedon: Oedon lacks a physical form of any kind. It's much more likely that Mergo is Oedon.

It's Root Chalices: The Game.

Chalices are fucking awful, boring, no matter what you do with them because there's no variety. You get a sprinkling of different enemies, but it's the same environments recycled over and over again with a few filters. It's fucking boring. After a while, there might as well be no randomization it's so samey.

Why aren't they using the main game maps? This isn't story-based, so let me mix whatever I want for fun, give me Old Yharnam and Nightmare of Mensis and Fishing Hamlet areas mixed up instead of the worst parts of the game. Throw the chalices in, too, fuck it, but don't limit to just them.

That's what people are complaining about, don't be so fucking dense.

>>
>>46095389

>I don't recognize the character on the left ?

>>
>>46095451
Prepare to Die. Lots.

More emphasis on gear over personal abilities most of the time.
Death is permanent but there's (almost) always more bodies.
Big fuck you monsters with fuck off abilities.

Personally I can't see the appeal of a souls RPG when most of the game is about getting your shit pushed in until you learn how to run/dodge with zero armour on.
>>
>>46095547
What do you mean by there being "more bodies?"
>>
>>46095639
You run a 'settlement' with a pool of survivors you can pick and choose to take on monster hunts. You can only take 4 at a time so the rest stay in the cumulative pool. Since your dudes mostly rely on gear, they can swap stuff around if someone gets a arm or leg torn off. Or you can send out Tilting Pete as a sacrifice if you feel like it.
You can upgrade stuff like Childbirth to fill out the population or replace dead people.
>>
>>46095547

>More emphasis on gear over personal abilities most of the time.
>Death is permanent but there's (almost) always more bodies.

Neither of those are really 'Dark Souls'

When you kill the child of Oedon, play the music box. It makes the crying you hear all game laughs like a baby.

Also, what's the deal with The Moon Presence? Why does it need/want a hunter of the dream?
>>
>>46095733
Huh. That doesn't seem particularly appropriate for a Dark Souls-based game. Feeling lonely in a world near-abandoned but by monsters and the mad seems important to the mood. And I'm not confident the undead can reproduce anymore.
>>
>>46095266
It Videogames: The Game

Videogames are fucking awful, boring, no matter what you do with them because there's no variety. You get a sprinkling of different enemies, but it's the same environments recycled over and over again with a few filters. It's fucking boring. After a while, there might as well be no randomization it's so samey.

Please enlighten me to how this board game will be bad since you've clearly beta tested it to know so much about how it works.
>>
>>46095885
damn never knew that happened, should have been tipped of since the bells that play when Wet Nurse is alive are the same tune as the music box
>>
>>46095885
I know about the music box easter egg.

Maybe it lost it's own child and now makes sure that all children of other Great Ones are killed as well out of malice.
>>
>>46095775
>Gear (Weapons) defines how you attack.
This is exactly like DS.

>>46095900
>Lonely.
I never felt Dark souls was ever lonely. You have spirits helping you, dicks leaving messages all over, a full town, NPC lurking around, dual networks..

Literally on of the more social adventure games around.
>>
>>46095885
One theory is that the Moon Presence is actually attempting to either kill all the other old ones through the hunters or at the very least give them a fighting chance against their involvement for it's own reasons. It's certainly not thrilled when it finds out you're becoming an Old One, after all.
>>
>>46095908
Good argument 10/10 you sure showed me pal

I don't think you've played Bloodborne. If you did, you'd know the Chalice Dungeons are almost universally reviled as the most boring, grindy, uninteresting parts of the game. They are, with no exaggeration, the exact same areas, barely varied, with a few little filters over one or two of them. They made a card game based on this, they explicitly said it's based off of the Chalice Dungeons. That's not a good sign, especially since I've seen no mention of anything in this card game relating back to the base game itself.

Again, stop being so dense.
>>
>>46096206
Don't talk like you're hot shit friendo. You're saying a board game is going to be shit because literally all you know about it is "chalice dungeons"

If you had played Bloodborne you'd know you can experience the entire game without chalice dungeons. Yeah they are the worst part of the game, but I fail to see how you expect a board game based on them to suck when practically nothing in the videogame will translate to pen and paper other than that the decor will be dungeons and spooky monsters.
>>
>>46095968
not if you play in offline mode...
>>
>>46095957
That reminds me, I've been thinking about Kos recently, and how much she's stated to be a female and a mother.
Does that mean that, unlike the other old ones, Kos mated with a human MAN to have a child? If so, who's the Orphan's Father?

My money's on it being Gherman.
>>
>>46096368
For the love of God learn to fucking read. I never said it was going to be shit. I said it wasn't a good sign.

The fact the statement made was that it was based off Chalice Dungeons, with absolutely no mention at all whatsoever of anything from the main game included, worries me and I hope to all goodness I and every single other person with this concern are wrong. There's more stuff they can use, just more maps, more areas, more hazards, if anything at all, to add more variety other than Isz Spooky Blue Mist or Loran Brown Sand on the stone walls and pits. I really hope there's more to it than that because there's not a whole you can pull off with Chalice Dungeons. Until that's addressed, I will remain concerned, because I love this game and I'm happy to see the IP not just being swept under the carpet. But I hope it's utilized to it's fullest extent.
>>
>>46095865

>The second is not but the first most certainly is - equipment upgrades > abilities upgrades is a thing in Dark Souls. Or are you thinking about player skills ?

In part, yeah. A well used basic weapon is a lot better than a poorly used impressive weapon. That and you don't really GET many 'Abilities' in Dark Souls. Even spells are gear.
>>
good lord a RPG of Bloodborne would be cool

>>
>>46096471
I really doubt that last part.

But as for who... who knows if there was anybody. Remember, Old Ones are not humans, they mostly don't appear to be mammals etc. Heck, one of them appears to not have a body and yet may have had a child which didn't have a body of it's own. Rather than mating they might simply will their children to life in some way and used Pthumerian women as God used Mary.

As for Kos, perhaps she willed it onto herself but fucked up - I'd need to think about it for some time and recall some item descriptions. By the way, is the guy behind Paleblood Moon writing a new article for the Old Hunters ?
>>
>>46097510
If it's not Gherman, then why does the doll emntion him sleeping soundly when you kill The Orphan?

You see, that's why it was interesting that Kos is a female and a mother; she couldn't use a pthumerian woman like the other old ones, and actually had to bear her child. It leads to some interesting implications

I know the guy who did Paleblood Moon wrote something on the Bloodborne subreddit about The Old Hunters. If you do a bit of googling, I'm sure you can find it.
>>
I hope they take this chance to expand on the lore instead of just copying wholesale from the game.
