Most people who play RPGs are actually not ínto derpy lolrandumb nonsense. This is one of the reasons the ducks in Runequest were so unpopular among gamers and likely one of the reasons the game didn't become more popular than it did as people not seldome would refer to it as the Donald Duck game.

Ignoring for a second how great the ducks are in Runequest, I'd say that the problem isn't that people don't like lolrandumb, it's that they don't like stuff that deviates too heavily from the stuff the tone of the setting or game. In a goofy martial arts parody, Betty doesn't deviate from the tone, so his absurd (and quite random) behaviour works.
Betty as a character in a po-faced game about politics wouldn't work. It's not because there's something inherently wrong with an absurd character, but simply because the character works against the tone of the game.
You need to take at least one level in Wizard, otherwise you'll never be a Great Magician.
