Let's make a heretical cult worthy of the Dark gods!

Primal Devotees: These cults form around an aspect of their surroundings or environment. This might be such elemental aspects as the burning flame, life-sustaining water, an essential native vegetation, the primordial darkness, or even the unending depths of space.

Cults of Idea (1d20) Background

Progressive Plot: The golden age of Mankind has come and gone. The wisdom of the past can be found with care and caution, but some are reckless enough to believe in seeking new answers instead. Cults of progress may lack reverence for old knowledge, or they may believe themselves up to the task of recreating it from first principles. In their pursuit of new and arcane secrets, they echo the hubris of the Dark Age of Technology, and may bring down ruin to match.

Council of Inner Mysteries: The cult is ruled by a group of a decent size. This group may all work together towards a common goal or more likely, constantly plagued with in-fighting and backstabbing.

The Cult Leadership (1d20) Nature
>>
Rolled 13 (1d20)

>>46037691
>>
>>46037754
Xenos: The cult is lead by a xenos of some sort. The most common type are the tyranid genestealer cults but it can also be led by creatures such as the foul slaugth, manipulative eldar, megalomaniac necrons or tau spies.

Leadership Style (1d10)
>>
>>46037790
We can always come up with our own xenos race if we want to brainstorm some more late ron.
>>
Rolled 7 (1d10)

>>46037790
>>
>>46037836
Shadowy: Little is known of the cult’s leader, who surrounds himself in a shroud of mystique. He avoids appearing in person whenever possible, and hides what he can about his nature even from his lieutenants.

Ok, roll a 1d6 for how many times we can roll for our arnaments and defences

Brutal Weaponry: When forced to action, the cult uses simple, direct weaponry. Heavy axes, huge mauls, and similar weapons are common. More advanced armaments follow similar trends, with chainswords, autoguns, and bolt weapons being preferred when accessible.

and

Plentiful Ammunition: The cult favors solid projectile weapons, grenades, and other armaments that rely upon easy access to large stores of ammunition.

>>46038044
>>
Rolled 6 (1d10)

>>46038044
>>
>>46038065
Special Material: Some of the garb or gear used by the cult incorporates materials rarely used by those outside the cult. Offworld fabrics, the bones of rare beasts, or even xenos trinkets could all be possible signs of cultist ties.

Cult Allure(1D20)

What a creepy cult we have so far
>>
Rolled 20 (1d20)

>>46037893
Alongside this, they also apparently have a HUGE cache of ammo, and lots of simple weaponry...
>>46038094
And apparently we're hoarders of cool clothes too
>>
>>46038181
Call Unto The Native: Something in this region of space binds its inhabitants to it; over the generations it has reached into their minds and souls, effecting a subconscious alteration which drives certain individuals towards specific behaviors (often including worshipful activity). A poor soul afflicted so may be perfectly sane and Emperor-fearing, and yet once called by the inhuman presence will join the cult as a sleepwalker might stumble the path to his doom

Rites and Observances of the Cult (d10)

>>46038219
>>
Rolled 5 (1d10)

>>46038219
>>
>>46038254
Flesh Twisting: Most common as a ritual of initiation or advancement, the deliberate mutilation or mutation of a cultist’s flesh is often seen as a show of dedication.

Focus of Worship (1d20)
>>
Rolled 13 (1d20)

>>46038284
The way I see it, the people here mutilate themselves, or each other, to collect their prettiest flesh and ammunition, which is why people can't leave.
>>
Rolled 18 (1d20)

>>46038284
>>
>>46038327
Chaos Undivided: This cult worships all of the chaos powers as a twisted concept known as chaos undivided.

Ok that was the entire table, now let's fluff them out.

Here are some things in order to get us started:

>What is the name of the cult
>Where is it from
>How old/young is it?
>What type of xeno is leader of the cult

>>
No homeworld rolls? That could determine what element the Cult has affinities with.

It's a feudal Ice world with standard Imperial religion that's at war. Petty cults abound, while Space Marine are near by due to an Ork WAAAGH going on. The have been afflicted by Tyranids in the past, and have to deal with them in a low gravity environment.
>>
>>46038791

Well it's a chaos undivided cult and chaos Eldar are too big of deals to plot with stupid human peasants
>>
>>46038953
Let's see what the the 1d4chan tables create.
>>
When I saw that we venerated a force of nature and progress, the first thing that came to my mind was Prometheus and fire. Maybe our cult venerates Chaos as a bringer of change, and associate it with fire because (just like the Warp) it can bring both productivity and destruction. The flesh-twisting aspect could be a ritual in which the cultist is marked with a branding iron, or has to put his left hand on an open fire
>>
>>46039286
Let's see what our world is like, but I agree.

If it's a void world we can worship the black flame, and the flesh warping can be like void burns.

If it's a water world I suggest gills and fin augments.

Mining world, pieces of metal jammed into the skin.

But let's use the tables with a homeworld to see what kind of home we have/had.
>>
Is someone editing the creation table in order to add homeworld rolls? I would if I knew how...
>>
Bump because I really like these guys.

What about light and glass?

The cult sees the mysteries of the universe unfold in the refracted light of their system's star. They masquerade as a cult of the Emperor and draw in the young, foolish and wealthy into the quagmire of sin where small heresies leed to ever greater ones as they advance and become ever more lost in the labyrinth of glass and lies.

The mutilation could be implanting glass below or into the skin of even the eyes of those on the inner council. They never see the leader not refracted into formlessness or until they have advanced enough for to have destroyed their vision with mad eye kaleidoscopes.

The leader is a long lived and cunning creature who has tended to his flock for centuries in preparation for the great cull.

Glass?

Eh, if you guys want it I'll support it like a team player, but I would either go with lighting or fire, or go full Bolt Thrower and have them be metal heads.
>>
>>46051423
I was thinking Aztec obsidian when I picked glass
>>
>>46051437
Fair enough. I think we should try and stay away from cultural themes. I think Hua Yuan was lighting in a bottle; most of the time /tg/ homebrews become super heavy handed like the Blood Jaguars or a mess of influences like the Sanguine Shields.

That may just be me hating that /tg/ went full retard with the Blood Jaguars and knee jerking at any mention of Aztecs. Obsidian is stone, though, but it can convert either way. We like armoured assault so I don't how well that would work.

Personally of it where to pick a cultural theme I would go Grail Knights hunting for the Holy Grail STC and hidden knowledge on a holy mission from the gods as dictated by their master or a Greek themed conclave of artesians in a Promethean flame cult. If we went lighting we could get a Tron like cult of fanatics.

I don't know, I'm willing to take this wherever.
>>
>>46051521
I don't think there's anything wrong with basing it off a culture, maybe you've just had poor experiences with it
>>
I was thinking that for the whole armored assault theme and since we use daemon engines how about implanting a human being inside of the engine to have a slight bit more control over the engine.

I like the idea of having a Lok'kroll as the xenos leader. With a mindset of using fire against fire, e.g using humans to destroy humans

He/she/it could even be the last of it's race, or atleast one among a very few
>>
>>46053738
>>46053743
Possible leaders then lok'krol
Council of lok'krol
>>
On an abandonded space station known as "Hammerwatch station" in the outskirts of the Imperial star system "Lambda-XII" sits a council of the verly last Lok'krol.

Ever since the wretched humans and thier Imperium burned thier home planet and killed of thier kin. Ever since the few survivors have sworn themselves to kill every human they come across.
But after almost 2500 years nothing has happend and the small council of Lok'krol onboard Hammerwatch station is the last of their kind.
Not all hope is lost since they have begun to influence and mislead a group of humans hellbent to destroy the Imperium of Man. And with false promises of aincent human tehnology they have managed to get a quite sizable cult up and running.

Any good? Should I change anything or expand on anything?

b5-19.jpg
46 KB, 700x392
With the council members being the last of thier race and with the distrust of humans, they needed something to keep them in check. That ment doing deals with the warp and chaos. With nothing left to lost the council members gave away thier souls to the dark gods in order to bring death and destruction to the Imperium.

It is said the in the bowels of Hammerwatch station is a forge run by a member of the dark mechanicus, if he is human or not is a mysteri all in itself. But he is eager to produce daemon engines and muniton for reasons only known to him and the Lok'krol council.

The council also sometimes reveal themsleves to promising champions and upon the reveal they brainwash them with warp tainted xenotech in order to turn them into messengers and champions in order to bring more rouge humans into the cult.

I wonder if we can get a drawfriend in here so we can draw up our interpriation of what the Lok'krol look like
>>
It's a serious mistake fluffing without a summary.

We should also focus on a single element
>>
>>46054061
Having the very last anything is kind of sue.

I like Hammerwatch tho
>>
>>46055381
But thier race is dead, that is why I think they work since they hate humanity and they are the very few that escapdes and survived the Imperium
>>
>>46055505
Having a dead race head this cult is pretty sue.

Let's just go with the lightning theme, have Hammerwatch be a fortress of glass and our leader a single entity of sentient chaotic Lighting, a Lighting Archon basically.

I like this idea
> HE IS THE DIVINE SPARK ALL HAIL HIM AND THE GODS OF CHAOS!

Why did it become abandoned?
>>
>>46057417
How big should Hammerwatch be?
>>
>>46057417
We can have this primary Electricity creature, and a council of humans/xeno/mutants that can communicate with it.

Hammerwatch can be a satellite of the Cult's native planet, the glass tomb of this lighting xeno.

But clear. It's the Promethean Archon's tomb or prison and the holy command of the Tempest Knights. Not deep space nine

From what I understand you cant make a chaos cult army with the existing troop list in the Chaos Space Marines codex. There are no HQ choices for Cultists.

AND THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A FUCKING ROCKET LAUNCHER TO KNOCK A TANK OUT!

We're lighting dudes that hunt knowledge for something that might be a C'tan and for chaos.

Guys what if, guys listen, guys what if it was a space station orbiting a glassed planet that foucused the light perfectly by some fluke of nature and the spaces station was one of the galaxies greatest solar power collection facilities.

Cements the light as the core force of nature if nothing else.

>>

It's dumb as fuck. It's a dead Fuedal world, not a solar panel.
>>
>>46066086
How's living on space crystals any better?
>>
>>46066568
Well its not dumb first of all, and second of all no one said that.

The Archon or whatever it is is confined to a crystalline satellite over the dead world. Basically the vatican for our little cult.

Also, summary when?

?

>>
>>46067006
Wow I'm fucking retarded.

So what culture do we want to rip off? I'm feeling crusaders, unless there's some culture that was into lightning and knowledge.
>>
>>46067053
These guys are from a feral world, so I'd figure they'd be pretty primative. Crusader may not work
>>
>>46067188
Feudal, not feral.

Crusaders could absolutely work, especially considering their knack for Daemon Engines.
>>
>>46067249
Touché, I just fucked that up
>>
>>46067622
Hey man, its all good.

I think these guys could be an anti Mechanicus, primarily in that they are small and actively seek to reinvent what the Imperium calls the Dark Age of Technology.

Do you have any recommendations for their theme beyond lighting?
>>
>>46067719
If they were nurgle aligned, we could go knights of st. Lazarus
>>
>>46067773
Chaos Undivided, actually. Maybe we can have orders within the cult?

So crusaders of enlightenment is a go?
>>
>>46067792
Well, 4 chaos gods, 4 crusading orders in the holy land (unless we include malal). Knights of St. John, Templars, Teutons, and St. Lazarus. Only problem is adapting them. But then having a pope-like figure head would make sense to keep these niggas running
>>
>>46067826
This mysterious Xenos energy being could act as their spiritual liege, and the chaos gods just a path to enlightenment, not true evil. The Xenos thing could also call to those it finds useful or promising
>>
>>46067902
All the chaos gods are pretty much two pronged with good and evil, so he could be pushing the good hard to the poor downtrodden peasants who eat that shit up, and end up corrupted
>>
>>46067940
Shit we could basically just copy and paste the WHFB world, make it post apocalyptic, and make a hidden chaos cult across the world. Or maybe it isn't hidden at all.
>>
>>46068133
It's a horribly kept secret obviously. Too many proud zealots too stupid too keep it quiet
>>
>>46068133
Come back, we need you.
>>46067791
>>46067635
See this through. To the end.
>>
>>46068167
Or we could just say fuck it and have the world look like what would happen if Chaos won WHFB and technology was much more advanced.

The cult is a faction on the world that sees Chaos as a guiding light when looked through a certain light. They probably revere the Omnissiah and the Motive Force as well. These guys could have a pretty interesting pantheon, actually.
>>
>>46068196
I'm game for it
I'll contribute more tomorrow, as I'm too tired to think

The Fuedal world is as varied and "realistic" as WHFB world, but with more chaos, mutated ratlings instead of Skaven, Squats instead of Dwarves, Abhuman Beastmen, Ogryn instead of Ogres, Daemons instead of Lizardmen, and Eldar Exodites instead of Elves. And everything has gone to shit it makes Age of Sigmar look like a marked impro- Actually no.

The lighting and elemental reverence or whatever we build it up to comes from the Cult itself.
>>
Bump for this fucking fantastic idea

>>46076398
Sounds about right. I guess instead of shitmarines there's just normal marines
>>
>>46077265
But is it 1d4chan worthy?
>>
>>46080588
If we fluff it out?

Of course it is, especially if we get into the world as a realistic, well "ish", representation of what a 40k Planet should be instead of a culturally homogenized space ball. It would be neat to see what we could try and do with not pants on head retarded chaos worship, too.
>>
we ought to have some chunk of archeotech to drool over, if we're meant to be well established.

I think it should be some sort of magic item, something precious

major regions of the planet
cult factions
cult hierarchy
military forces
production capability
history
cult lore and ritual
>>
>>46081067
>Major Religions
Chaos.

>Cult factions
Prometheans-They worship the Xeno directly

Then there's probably a knight order to each chaos god, and some neutral faggots

>Cult hierarchy
The Xeno>it's council>errebody else

>Military forces
Stretched thin and kept quiet but they have a stupid amount of good armour and Daemon Engines, and the resources to keep the guns going.

>Production capability
They have the hook up with the Dark Mechanicus probably
>>
>>46081691
>dark mechanicus
They should have some cool name like hellfire forgemasters or something

Helltempest Artificers?

>>

>>46092823
>>46092050
We need a name for the Cult as a whole, something WHFB inspired, so we can more threads. I know interest in these guys is bleeding out but I'm willing to carry them into the spotlight
>>
>>46093494
I assume there are also different sects, different knightly orders, and different interests within the council.

also, the cult should use worked glass like the catholic church uses gold

Ogryn Ogre Kingdoms, Undivided/Loyal Empire, Slaaneshi Brettonians, Ratlings that worship The Great Horned Rat or Nurgle, Necron Tomb Kings, Khornate "vampires", Ork warband that's sticking around for a good foight, Beastmen mutants and the Vikings remain the same.

Tyranids for Lizardmen or just have Tau stuck on the world or some shit?

Or even better. Tarellian dog soldiers

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Tarellians
>>
>>
>>
>>46100934
Tarellians work just fine, but Not!Lustria could be filled with the remains of a crashed Tau warship, and now the Tau and the Kroot+Tarellians are fighting in a fucking jungle on what is essentially a Daemon World.
>>
>>46103702
Could be very few tau actually left, and work like makeshift farsights
>>
>>46104417
That's cool! They probably would have died in all the melee. So right now Lus'Tau'a is filled with dogs and birds who ain't got time to bleed.

What about a loyal force? Guys that even in this post apocalyptic low sci fi/low fantasy shit hole, uphold the Imperial Creed?
