I love these comments. I just love them. Games Workshop has ALWAYS put out overdesigned models. It's what they do. It's literally no point of argument. Everything they do, with the exception of LotR, is overdesigned and has always been.
If you claim to like GW's aesthetic, then there are only two reasons you dislike this model:
1) You're salty WHFB axed your WAAC bullshit game
2) You're jealous because the design team doesn't love 40k as much as Fantasy.

I like most of the GW models, even the over designed ones, except for some instances of CAD stuff that's too round, like stormvermin and centurions. The angular CAD and intricate details of Nagash and Archaon are quite good, if gaudy.

At this point I expect all future GW plastic models to either be Archaon/Wulfen style or garbage like the Shitsurge. And I know people hate Wulfen but honestly aside from how ugly the faces look and how dumb the poses and concept is, the sculpting quality and proportions are fine.

But that's not true, if you look at Chaos around the time of Storm of Chaos, they had a lot of models with nice basic outlines; the warriors, the knights, Archaon himself. The Hellcannon is a centrepiece and so most people would want that to be over-designed but Maruders and even demons tended to have wide swathes of easily painted flesh.
Now it's just hard ridges on everything with designs left right and center. It's no surprise that the modellings gone down hill though since classic modellers like the Perry brothers have left GW.
