Fine.

Rule 0.
>>
>>46008322
Little did you know that rule 0 tells most gm/dms to make people have a good time, not Lord over your players.
>>
>>46008322
I'm always amazed that people actually had to cite Rule 0 rather than it being obvious.
>>
>>46008402
>not Lord over your players.

Unfortunately, lording over players is exactly how some GMs get their jollies.
>>
>>46008441
I guess none of your players ever turned out to be autistic?
>>
>>46008273
But we're playing free form, you ignoramus!
>>
>>46008441
The guy who is having a lot of fun making the rest of the table miserable often misses the obvious.
>>
>>46008402
I like how your RAWfag has such a weak wrist and meager mental character that he not only cannot hold up his fairly small weapon correctly, but has put a ski mask on despite being someone whom the context heavily implies I know well enough to identify by voice.

He probably doesn't even realize his fake gun's safety is still on.
>>
>>46008498
Oh, I meant to quote OP there. Sorry anon, I don't fully know how that happened.
>>
>>46008485
Oh, then its "Rules as I want them".

No make way to Shadowglitter the equestrian-souled assasin.
>>
>>46008273
WHY?
>>
Bad choice, considering that pic breaks at least four basic gun handling rules.

>inb4 "it's airsoft"
Thats no reason to hold it like a retard.
>>
>>46008273
I can't find a violin small enough.
>>
>>46008273
Demanding RAW is usually a way of saying that the DM's rulings are inconsistent. It's a sympathetic position, because inconsistent DMing is bullshit. Unfortunately, it's a bad position because inconsistent DMs will be bad even if they claim to adhere to RAW. Generally my position is that if the DM is inconsistent because they're absent-minded or prone to being pushed around by other players I shrug it off. If they're inconsistent because they want to punish the players for success - in other words, if they start cheating - I respond in kind.

I have heard of a very small set of DMs who will present you with seven hundred pages of house rules before the game starts. These people don't need to be ordered to play by RAW so much as they need to spend more time actually playing the game.
>>
>>46008402
The guy in the OP doesn't seem to be having a good time.

I think he needs more Rule 0 in his life.
>>
>>46008552
But he's a violent robber who's threatening you with it.
>>
Most DMs are terrible both as DMs and as people in general. Removing rule 0 would improve more games than it would ruin.
>>
>>46008402
>have a good time
>not Lord over your players
not sure I follow
>>
>>46008851
How am I supposed to take a robber who can't even hold his weapon properly seriously?

He'll probably blown his own stupid face off before he does anything threatening with it.
>>
>>46008951
If your DM is terrible as a DM and as a person in general you should find a new DM.

>>46009019
He's pointing it at you with his finger on the trigger while waving it around erratically. I dunno anon, he looks like he means business to me.
>>
>>46009054
>waving it around erratically.

This is where he's fucking up, and I just slap his hand and disarm him.

Assuming I don't just unzip my katana and slice the gun in half.
>>
>>46009054
>implying he'll be able to hit me while holding the gun like that
>implying he won't break his wrist or nose the moment he tries to fire.
>>
>>46008990
this, desu sempai
>>
>>46009119
Pretending that it's not airshit, a child could fire it like that without a problem. 9mm is a bitch round for scrawny little shits.
>>
>>46009119
I don't think you understand the equation here. Even if he breaks his wrist (somehow) by firing, he's pointing it right in your face. It'll only be worse for you if he accidentally lets off a round.
>>
>>46008273

fine.

>Peasant Railgun
>>
>>46009771
That would be worrying if the gun was real. Look at the barrel, there's no rifling.
>>
>>46009838
>Thinking peasant railgun works in strict RAW
>>
>>46009880
Paintball in the face at point-blank range will not kill you but it's still not a nice thing - will hurt like a bitch and might cost you an eye.
>>
>>46009927
This ain't a charity. I've got standards for robberies, no gun, no knife, no cash. You pay these schmucks and next some dip will try to rob you with a drawing of a gun.
>>
>>46008273
Ok.
Puts rulebook on table
point to the half thought out, barely understood and incoherent ones. (They are in every system)

Please explain....
>>
>>46009441
>9mm
>STANAG magazine
AHAHAHAHAHA no
>>
>>46009838
RAW has no implementation of relativistic physics. The effects of the peasant railgun via RAW are getting something from one end to the other end in a round. The last guy throws it and it follows all rules for the last guy throwing something.

It does make for great bucket brigade firefighting and frightfully fast crowd surfing though.
>>
Didnt the old D&S books say something along the lines of "This book is merely a guide to help you"? I guess once 4e came out with stuff specific for minis and grids, that was thrown out.

Fair point, although in theory, the passing system should still apply the enormous velocity of passing said object onto the villagers in a way that could obliterate their pathetic tiny bodies (implying you have enough villagers), right? Then hilariously just drop onto the ground at the distance of the object being thrown by a single villager?

I don't know how much it screws with the GM's plan but it would be a fun show.

It is bliss.

I never played an RPG but the way this board talks about it, it seems way more people don't actually want to play the game part and just want to role play. Maybe you guys should consider a new hobby.
>>
>>46011653
You're not trying to kill them, just teach them a lesson. Permanent damage isn't the goal.

That's why you shoot them in the organ a rules lawyer is least likely to ever use.

Playng the role...is the game? Im not sure what your trying to say? Sometimes the fighting is just part of the role you play. The numbers are literally just the players ability to manipulate luck, essentually, making rpg's a game of chance.
>>
>>46011892
>essentually, making rpg's a game of chance
Shit rpgs. Ones that let you reroll failed checks doubly so.
>>
>>46011892
What I am trying to say is that there is a pretty clear line between customizing your game as the game intended you to and breaking/hacking any arbitrary part of the game to suit your whims. At that point your really not playing a game and are just role playing.
>>
>>46010904

Unless you are the person that wrote the rule you don't have a fucking clue what was intended. That goes double if you're autistic like 115% of the people in gaming are, other people might as well be from Mars if you're a sub-human meat calculator.
>>

>Found the unbearable neo/tg/ fatefag who thinks that being a hipster makes him social when in truth it just makes him a social reject with a twitter account

The basic problem with "rule zero" is that a bunch of people use it to try and avoid having rigorous mechanics.

Like, duh, you can do whatever the fuck you want with an RPG by default. But if the author is trying to enshrine rule zero on a golden plaque, it's probably because they either (a) fucked up somewhere or (b) don't believe their game actually stands up on its own.
>>
>>46013288
Shut up, dummy
>>
>>46008273
Yes, and?

I wrote the rules, remember.
>>
>>46013106
Dude, calm down. Howsabout we all just have a reasonable discussion about how we'd like our game to run alright?
>>
>>46013106
There are plenty of games where they give you whole little essays on what the rules are intended to do.

Mind you, a lot of the time they kind of fuck this up because poorly planned rules don't actually work that way, but it still helps with general benchmarks like D&D's "an equal CR fight should take 1/4th of the party's daily resources" or Exalted's "characters should be able to easily defend against reality warping, but have to put up a fight against high skilled kung fu".
>>
>>46008273
Jake please stop trying to kill the rest of the party with your werewolf twink. It's creepy and borderline obsessive.

Rule 0/Rule of Fun > RAW
just make it consistent and/or "i'll check the rules until next time" if it's because of uncertainty
