Anyone seen any decent videos of the multi? Can't find shit on youtube that doesn't have some annoying guy playing like shit and talking too much.

Has anyone bought any ships off of Irene on Aliexpress? Is it legit? How's the quality? Anyone able to compare the quality to official models?

I would love to make some videos and gifs, but Shadowplay is being a bitch. Anybody happen to know a fix for Geforce Experience just reacting when you try to open/maximise it?
>>
For people who already play the game: would like the dev to balance the game for competitive play? I'm asking because e-sport seems to be all the rage those days.
>>
>>46004370
Christ no. Pretty much every competitive scene for any game I've seen has been a complete cesspit, and their concept of "better balance" would almost always make the game less fun in the pursuit of muh skillceiling.

>>46004370
No, I would like a well balanced campaign and lots of game modes and fleets for skirmish mp instead.
As long as the balance is bearable and the meta doesn't boil down to everyone taking the same things all the time, it's fine. If I want to play a competitive rts, I'll play a game that's built to be one.
>>
>>46004370
I'm with these guys: >>46004469 and >>46004528 Competitive balancing would only ruin what is shaping up to be a genuinely fun game in favour of players who have a much bigger pool of games made by devs experienced and specializing in competitive play.
>>
>>46004370
I'll be the edgy guy and say yes, I want it to be balanced for competitive play.

And fucking hell anything other than cruiser battle is awful, especially data recovery. I hope to god you can choose the win conditions eventually.
>>
Besides aesthetics, is there any difference between the old and new Tau fleets?
>>
>>46004773
The new one is not made up of merchant vessels with some guns bolted on.
>>
>>46004773
New Tau fleet doesn't have the same extreme weakness to boarding. They still can't launch their own hit&runs, but they don't suffer the halving of their boarding value. Apart from that they're overall pretty similar, except the new fleet tends to have slightly faster ships in some classes, and a broader access to frontal deflectors.

also a tip for everyone here, epic level AA actually blurs textures, put it on low for crisper shinier ships. see pic related for example.

If they relaunch Battlefleet Gothic, I hope they mix both styles. I don't like Devilfishes in Space. I prefer long ships.
>>
>>46004940
At least the long style is easy to proxy with any number of generic ship lines.

Never played against/as Tau, I hear they relied on lots of missiles and small craft?
>>
>>46004940
The tau shtick is ordnance and double firing arcs. They don't have lots of guns, but they generally will be able to shoot you with all of them from a given position, and they'll be drowning you in torpedoes and bombers in the meantime.
>>
>>46005068

I know their torpedoes are guided, although they have a chance of malfunctioning. Their interceptors are the Barracudas, while the bombers are the Titan-killer Mantas with a 4+ save because fuck you. A typical tactic is to send the Mantas alone without escort while the Barracudas intercept enemy ordnance. Ion cannons are lances, railguns batteries.
>>

>>
>>46004918

>>
>>46005141

>>
>>46004675

Nah man I also agree with you.

The current multiplayer campaign-esque leveling is fun and all but man I want a decent sandbox type custom gamemaker so I can fiddle around with all of the ships.
Or just have some insane fun and throw like 10 battleships against each other or something.
>>
>>46005293
The Tau even have missiles that can actually track targets! Its unfair I tell you.
>>
Are the Tau equipped with Markerlights or something of the style?
>>
>>46005347
Yeah, there actually is a ship with a dedicated targeting system. Any other Tau ships close by can use that to improve the accuracy of their batteries and turrets.

Really, anon?
>>
>>46005455
Kinda disappointed that the Slaanesh gift doesn't result in the ship having kilometers-long questing tentacles swinging every which way.
>>
>>46005543
>slow

They are faster than anything most fleets have.

In 'real' space battles a normal chemical rocket missile would be pretty slow compared to the speeds realistic deep space engines would reach anyway.
>>
>>46005550
What do all the marks do?
>>
>>46005543

Actually, their missiles are accelerated by Gravitic Launchers. Also they are launch in salvos of 10.

That's said, I agree about fighters. If anything, they are closer to a modern navy than a realistic space warship.
>>
Is there anything like infiltration or submarine-like ships?
>>
>>46005577

They are the counterpart to Inquisitorial/Imperial Navy/AdMech/Navigator favours. Give bonuses to things like repair etc.
>>
>>46005577
Khorne gives you much stronger boarding and hit&run attacks, unsurprisingly. Nurgle gives you stronger boarding and a locust aura that damages enemy ships that get too close. Slaanesh makes it vastly more likely that enemy nearby ships try to flee, and can cancel enemy special orders. Tzeentch allows you to spawn a fog that hides your ships, and can conjure a decoy that you can teleport to.
>>
>>46005597
They still fire archaic single-warhead missiles in small bunches. But yeah. Just like ground Tau approximate more modern tactics, so do space Tau approach, well, maybe not modern, but Cold War doctrine. Which is still mildly amusing, seeing as everyone else seems to do fine with WW2: Metal Edition: NOW IN SPACE.
>>
>>46005339
All torps track in BFG. Its just most rely on their passive sensors that only work within a few thousand km (base to base on the TT) remote guided torps are a thing in the imperial navy too. Though they can be vulnerable too EW.
>>
>>45997564

I got no issues with building fleets and to be honest I have had a read of the rules already as to get hyped before beta launched.
>>
Aren't Tau ships less powerful than the rest of the fleets?
>>
>>46005602
Spec your destroyers into infiltration and bam, you got space submarines
>>
>>46005602
Sorta. Stealth and recon actually play a fairly significant role. At the beginning of the game, you can only see enemy ships as unidentified blips on the screen, and you can't actually fire at them until you've scouted them. You scout them either by using certain abilities or just by bringing your own ships close enough. Once scouted, a ship generally stays identified and can be fired upon even if it goes back out of sensor range.

However, all ships can also use a special order that will revert them to being blips if they're out of sensor range, and even makes them completely invisible for a short time (you also get the same effect by hiding in nebulae). Together with a few specific upgrades, that can make for some pretty fun shenanigans. Nothing says "fuck you" to some long-ranged skirmishing force like suddenly boosting an angry line ship right into their midst. There's also the potential for some COINTEL, like when you have the objective to protect a certain ship you can send out decoy blips for the enemy to race after, while hiding the real target somewhere out of sight.
>>
>>46005602
Dark eldar have a "Stealth" device that confuses friend or foe system at long range. On the TT they cant be attacked until they shoot at you or get within 30cm because they're showing up as friendly on your sensors.
>>
>>46005696
Not especially. They tend to be be underarmed, but can more easily point all there guns at one target so it all evens out once you add in their superior and often more numerous ordnance.
>>
>>46005696
They are, but there's a bit more of them and they're excellent long range fighters. They're like turbo-Chaos but without the metal and the assault actions.
>>
>>46005550

I thought Slaanesh's mark made your ships look the best with Nurgle slightly behind. I was really sceptical about Slaaneshi ships since they released a trailer months ago showing the other three, which I saw as a sign that they didn't have idea how to do Slaanesh. Glad they proved me wrong. Tzeentch and Khorne are both meh.

Aliexpress is a subset of Alibaba, which is the Chinese equivalent of eBay except split into smaller sites for business-to-business, consumer-to-consumer, importing etc. Aliexpress is for small Chinese businesses (e.g. recasters) to sell products internationally.
Just googling the site is about as stupid as googling eBay and expecting good reviews. Just like with eBay, you have to look at the independent seller's reviews.

>>
so whats everyones thoughts on the best mark of chaos for artillery longrange carriers.
I'm leaning towards khorne
>>
>>46006699
If you intend to maintain the long range and skirmish, Tzeentch might be a better fit still. The decoy and teleport will minimise the fire it's exposed to, and the AoE-camo is certainly a nice-to-have if you have a carrier supporting it close by.
>>
>>46006743
thats true, I do sneak one tzeentch 'support ship' into my fleets, but for the mainstay the defence bonus/attack from khorne+ deep strike fuck you mode really makes me chuckle

I don't know if the bonus carries over to assault boats from the carriers but I don't even care at this point. tis too powerfull

I'm not blown away by it, the uber side lance/macro are nice but since it has a special blend of both It can't benefit as much.
I use it for world crushing rams, snuck a short range warp jump for broadsiding and it works alright if well supported

pic unrelated, just eyecandy

what do you think of the despoiler anon?
>>
One think I think would be useful for this would be a zoom-to-and-follow setup like in SoaSE.
>>
>>46008564
I'm a fan of any kind of attack craft, so adding more bays to my list was always appreciated, and the dual broadside banks let it function as more of a battle carrier than a standoff vessel like the Devastation class. I upgraded its Macro Weapons for accuracy and park it 9k out, spit some assault boats/bombers and micro warp jump it in when something needs to be boarded or broadsided.

I do like Lances though, especially when they're upgraded and on Lock-On. Can get some nasty spike damage if their shields are down. Bummer about the underperforming torps though.

Can we all agree that just like on the tabletop, the Styx is a big bag of awesome? I love this thing.

Brill. Currently tryng to decide whether to get into BFG or go for Star Wars Armada. Latter sidesteps the faff of assembling and painting miniatures, but SW capital ships don't quite have the grandeur of upside down cathedral spaceboats.

Also, is there a concise version of the rules that incorporates the 2010 updates/fan changes, or will I need to use the core rulebook and the FAQ together?
>>

Right I'm showing my newfag here but what the fuck does based mean?
>>
>>46007854
That quantity of ships usually gives you around 750 points. That's probably as low as you want to go, but it does work. 1,500 is a good eventual target (at that point you might have a battleship on each side). A lot of people go up to 2,500 points but it isn't necessary.

Between Imperial Navy and Chaos, the latter is a little stronger until 1,000 - 1,250 points, then the IN starts to win more often.

A lot of people don’t realize how poor the original metal ships were. The plastic cruisers were great, but all the others had ill-fitting parts, poorly-located and -shaped holes for the flight stands, wouldn’t stay together without pinning… those were dark days. Almost all of my metal ships, escorts included, are pinned to their stands (not permanently, but I drilled into the tip of the stand and put a piece of paper clip in there, and drilled a corresponding hole in the bottom of the ship).

Resin copies of lousy models are sometimes even more lousy, but at least they’re easier to pin and don’t weigh nearly as much.

My metal Repulsive arrived with the “wingtips” incompletely cast. The nose was crooked and required a bunch of filler material behind it, and it’s pinned or it would fall off at the slightest touch. And it’s one of the better ones. A lot of official photos of the other grand cruisers show them sagging.

>I thought they'd try to time it with the release of the video game, but that'd only be possible if they'd been working on it for a while already.

That also implies that GW actually has a concept of strategic marketing and cross-promotion, which they've shown time and time again they don't.

There does seem to be a shift in strategy, at least from the perspective of someone who hasn't touched their miniatures in ages. Age of Sigmar is apparently about making really nice models for collectors and they seem to be big on making stand alone boxed games that double up as sources of fancy minis.
>>
>>46009538
We also have to accept that BFG was a flop; few 40k players bought into it. Why not? $150 was enough for a decent fleet. Several 40k armies got ships. The initial fleets were well balanced. Why should GW try it again?

If they increased the scale by maybe 50%, with battleships being about the size of 40k vehicles, escorts about the size of original BFG cruisers, and cruisers somewhere in the middle, they could get a lot more detail in plastic models and also appeal more to the model collector market.

Plus it would make the huge number of resin copies that have sprung up since BFG went out of print unusable, forcing people to buy from GW.

yeah it really can be but it makes me miss tabletop a lot. My main gripe is it feels like world of tanks with the dumb system of advancement and stuff needing repairs.

thats alright anon, Its fine anyway, just a heads up though, for me it didn't work straight off the bat. do the following.

alright so there is a working/64 bit exe in
G:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Battlefleet Gothic Armada\BattleFleetGothic\Binaries\Win64

now if you just boot it up it will cry about missing dlls' so from where the bfg exe normally is.
G:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Battlefleet Gothic Armada
copy cprest120.dll
raknet120release64
stormmancer120
and the manifest text file(probably not needed for this but it doesn't hurt.)
put these in the same directory as battlefleetgothicwinshipping exe(the win64 folder one) and try that out
.
>>
>>46009924
The system of repair seems dumb, but it does have potential if they take that and put it towards some kind of sector conquest mode so that jumping a ship out has more impact.
>>
>>46009935
What's wrong with lunars? At least its not the gothic class and never breaking their shields.
>>
>>46009989
It can't seem to figure out that broadsiding the enemy is the best way of getting all its guns pointed at it at once, regardless of what orders I give it. Keeps pointing the prow at them, spams torps that never hit.
>>
>>46009935
Lunar's legit, don't worry. It's perhaps even the overall most capable raw brawler of the lot. The lances allow it to take pretty powerful pot-shots on its off-side while it pounds its primary target.
>>
>>46010043
Yeah, when it's pointing its nose at the primary enemy ship like it's trying to hint to me that it wants to ram.

Strange, have you made sure that the ship is set to fire abeam? It might also be set so that its engagement range is higher than the range on its broadsides, and only the prow weapons have that distance.

And it will also target other ships with weapons that cannot shoot at the main target.

I'm sorry, I failled you.

In the metro, while I was looking for my way for the studio, a granny in difficulty asked for my help. Long story short : she was kinda senile, repeated herself like a broken record, and lost. The paper where she had writed the bus line she should have taken was a "mise en demeure". traduction : "formal notice" ? "demand letter" ? well, nothing good to be sure.

I took pity and spent nearly a hour trying to explain that she has a guardian, and should refer to her for this problem, not going in a fucking alzheimer quest and that no, this station in don't hava a fucking tramway. at the end of it she could repeat the station she had to take to get home without fault.

Obiously, after that it was a bit late for the visit.
next day, I will finish at 10 am, and will retry this. hopefully It will be a better time to get them.

Here are the printed paper. I did good to not take the same texture for all of them, the 2 with the same are already too much for me.

Damn dude, that looks sweet as fuck. Out of curiosity, what software did you use to handle all the typesetting and such?
>>
Has anyone noticed the AI can and will mercilessly shoot off the engines or nova cannons from Imperial ships?

This seems to be the go to tactic for chaos and given how fragile those engines and other bits seem to be in this build, it's annoying as fuck.

Especially engines as it allows one (unrepairable) hit to take a ship of almost any size out of the battle.

Drives me crazy.
>>
>>46010838
The Emperor approves of noble deeds, anon. I'm sure it will do fine.

Which is why having micro warp jumps with your nova cannons is really crucial.
You get to reposition juuuust where it needs to be in order to fire his nova cannon, and you can still move to a lesser extent after your engines blow up.

Yeah, Inquisition in particular is pretty valuable to get the most out of your ordnance and nova cannons. It depends on what you're trying to do.

>3-4 strike cruisers and a battle barge?
One of the Marine's strengths is their escorts - the Cobra-equivalent is 5cm faster and has 5+ armor, the Sword-ish one is likewise 5cm faster, and the Firestorm-equivalent is 10cm faster but gives up a turret. For the Marine escorts you pay a 10pt premium over what a Navy player would pay, and you pay a 5pt premium on Navy escorts you dragoon.. but on the other hand, they now have a 33% chance of surviving a hit-and-run compared to the usual 16%.

Barges are excellent once you close, but they're slow enough you need to plan ahead - your effective engagement range is 45cm, unlike most BBs who have 60cm lances; it's easy to get kited by cruisers. You're still faster than most BBs though. Strike cruisers are nasty, ferrety little things that fear lances like no other, but are better against ordnance or batteries than a line cruiser.

>Did grey Knights/inquisition ever have their own rules?

Inquisition favour is really good if you have long-ranged weapons like nova cannons and assault craft (which you probably do since those are the most effective weapons at the moment), letting you instantly identify one ship. The extra crew points are pretty good as well, especially for a ship like the Mars-class which has launch bays, a nova cannons and a good amount of shooting as well and thus wants better ordnance, shorter cooldowns and better guns.
Navy I've found not to be very impsessive, since I haven't really had a problem with ships fleeing and a single Cobra-class has really poor offensive ability and will get atomized by a volley from pretty much anything.
Admech one at least is good for ships that would want a lot of skills, or ones that only get few but could benefit from another one (light cruisers, for example).

In particular, you can represent a Vanguard Cruiser by dropping the forward launch bay for >5< bloody Bombardment cannon or an S6 torp rack. People are always mentioning how great Assault Boats are (which is very true), but I've started to love bombers lately - they're fantastic at escort popping. While it's not exactly hard to kill escorts, being able to direct the weapons on my ships against bigger targets and then one-click away a Firestorm or Iconoclast is immensely valuable.
>Styx sees Sword
>Click Bombers
>Click Sword

Sure, there's probably better uses for it (namely swamping cruisers in assault boats), but I like to remove a threat entirely if possible. Bombers are also great for grinding off those last few hit points from ships trying to warp out.

These are an update to the Armada rules, although they might get changed again or rolled back if/when GW restarts the line.

They do poor damage to shields unless they're upgraded, but since they never miss they're a very reliable weapon. They just need to be paired with a ship that can batter down shields quickly.

It's quite accurate to the tabletop in that regard - once the shields are down, sic the Gothic on it with Lock-On orders given, and watch shit explode.

Shouldn't tempt the machine spirits, they're a fickle lot.

I havent had anyone try to ram me yet. Thought almost no IN player even tries to catch me.
>>
>>46014893
Damn man. I never double rammed before.
I'm guessing it must be brutal since the ship keeps being pushed back, istead of sliding of the rammer's prow.

lead with a supporting nova shot and it works well in my experience

God damn that Ork intro gave me chills.

I seriously hope they're good and fun to play as in the full game. I heard they were overpowered in the Alpha so I hope they aren't nerfed to oblivion in the released version.
>>
>>46015411
From what I understand, the random weapon strength that Orks are supposed to have was just locking at the top end of the range. Including their launch bays.

On that note, I'm going to see if I can find pictures of Andy Chambers' original scratch-built Ork ships from the playtests. They're pretty damned cool, but we only ever got a few pics of them.

Is there any cruiser better than a Dominator?

Got a mediafire archive full of White Dwarfs, BFG released around #232 so maybe check that or the couple of issues before it, might find something.

I hope ramming is one of the main things the orcs do. It feels a tad bit underwhelming with the Imperials.
>>
>>46015670
Dominator for artillery support
Gothic for murdering things
Lunar for brawling
Dictator for CAP.
At least, that's what I'm hoping for.

CAP?

Excellent. I actually have the physical WD, but no scanner. Barring sudden massive dsitraction, will be back shortly.

Well, they do have a dedicated escort class called the Brute Ram Ship. I think that's something you wont have to worry about.
