What are the best space opera RPGs?
>>
Why it's obviously whichever one you like best and anyone who tells you otherwise is a filthy liar

but seriously, Stars Without Number is pretty cool if OSR-y stuff is up your alley
>>
Homebrew setting with GURPS/other generic system/homebrew rules.

Premade settings don't work IMO for space opera. You want the players to be exploring unknown facets of the universe and creating their own stories as they go. Some of the best and longest running games I've ran have been when I can change the themes, story and even universe depending on what the players want.

I've played enough Alternity to know, not Alterntiy.

White Star is pretty good.

But honestly, if I'm going to play good old-fashioned cliché-heavy space opera, I'm gonna go with Risus.

Traveller. Classic or Mongoose.
>>
>>45923798
Rogue Trader.

At least, we play it like it's a Mexican soap opera.
>>
The only one I know of is traveller, and I can't reccomend that one based on it's terrible character generation system

Considering microgravity, do female astronaut need bras or can they go braless? Or is it matter of containment, at that point?

Using a bra inhibits natural muscle growth in the area and does not actually prevent sagging over the long term.

They did a study in, I think, Germany with over 300 women getting measured over a 15 year period. The ones who did not wear a bra experienced less sagging compared to other women in the study with the same size breasts who did wear them, and their nipples did not move downward as much.

It honestly makes sense, plenty of women who have worn bras all their life still sag like crazy.

Bras are still useful for not slapping yourself in the face when running if you're very well-endowed though, so they're not meaningless.
>>
>>45925272
Hi, woman here.

You'd wear a bra in space because space is cold and the primary reason to wear a bra is to avoid awkward nipple action.

Pasties would also work, but not sure if that's true in microgravity. Someone should sponsor a study on the ISS.
>>
>>45925413
NASA and the ESA need to get on that
Study the important issues
>>
>>45925462
We can't. Congress forbade experiments of any "sexual" nature back in the Skylab days. And anything you do in space can be considered an experiment. Which forbids sex in space, BTW. But the point is that experiments on not wearing a bra or wearing pasties would be forbidden for any NASA personnel. It might apply inter nationally too thanks to the US being forceful dickwads.

I've heard good things about Diaspora. Bare minimum, it fits the idea >>45923886 is going for quite nicely.

>get amazing offer to explore the cosmos
>but you have to wear a form-fitting top 24/7

wat do

>>45925748
But breasts aren't sexual. They're not sex organs.
>>
>>45925748
Someone call up Richard Branson and Elon Musk. They've got space ships and don't have to listen to Congress.

How else are we supposed to keep them away from xenophilia?

Diaspora is great; best option for hard* sci-fi you're likely to find.

>There were requests to bring female experimental subjects into space
Way to be kinky and creepy at the same time.

Reminds me a bit when the first female astronaut was joining a crew with cosmonauts and they were just so happy there was finally someone there who could cook.

They were confused by the outrage in the US. Supposed to have been a joke since, you know, pre-packaged food and all that.

Genuinely curious about your opinion on Alternity (I have Star*Drive, but haven't run it or the base game, so I don't know what I'm in for).

So, why not Alternity?
>>
>>45929565
It was either that or Congress freaked out about commie perverts infiltrating NASA.

Alternity is my favorite.

Feng Shui could be loosely considered "interdimensional gun-fu-opera" and recently got a new edition.

Then you look at pics of floppy pancakes on tribal women who never wear a bra and see evidence to the contrary.

Once the technology is there the future of space clothing will most likely be custom skin tight suits with some clothes worn over them because nobody wants to see their coworker's shrink wrapped junk everywhere they go. The skin tight suits would protect the skin against rapid decompression and would also have points to quickly be able to put a helmet on to. On top of that, there's plenty of nasty stuff in a space station that you don't want touching your skin in that same event where something goes horribly wrong. On top of all that the mechanical counterpressure provided from the shrink wrap suits would make moving around require a bit more effort, and exercise is always useful in microgravity environments.

Also, the vacuum of space isn't cold, it just has no temperature. It's actually harder to lose heat than it is to gain heat.

Cool settings, shite rules. It's just a heavy complicated mess, sort of a proto-d20 System.

There are better ways to play pretty much any genre.
