What's the difference between a Dragon, a Wyvern, a Wyrm and a Drake?
>>
>>45915216

Dragon = four legs, two or more wings: a six-limbed fantasy reptile
Wyvern = two legs and two wings: a physically plausible winged reptilian morphology
Wyrm = a limbless, wingless dragon: essentially a giant dragon snake
Drake = a shitty Canadian nigg-I KNOW WHEN DAT HOTLINE BLING
>>
One is a crusty bus station, the other is a busty crustacean!
>>
>>45915247

Pretty much this.
>>
>>45915216
Pedantic heraldic nuances. They're different words for the same thing.
>>
>>45915247
Drake = wingless dragon, basically a large lizard with horns and elemental breath or some shit
>>
Are there any settings which actually have all 4 as distinct creatures?
>>
>>45915216
Depends on the setting.
>>
>>45915216
Fuck off, drakeposter

>>45915251
What's the setup to this again?
>>
>Dragon
Four legs, wings on back
>Wyvern
Two hind legs, fore "arms" are actually wings
>Wyrm
No legs.
>Drake
No wings.

These two guys have it 100% spot on:

>Are there any settings which actually have all 4 as distinct creatures?

Monster hunter. Monster hunter does this in strides, they have:
Wyverns- Standard two wings, two legs.
PsuedoWyverns- Same as Wyvern only their Wing tip claws are still developed enough to be used as paws/feet. (Pic related, The Nargacuga is one such species)
Bird Wyvern- Wyverns evolved from dinosaurs; includes non-flying ones.
Brute Wyvern- Completely terrestrial wyverns evolved from dinosaurs; think Tyrannosaurus or carnator based species.
Elder Dragon- Typically six limbed dragons, but the classification also extends to any animal powerful or large enough to effect it's environment.

Here's a handy mnemonic device to remember the differences, chaps.

>Dragon
Hot, like literally fiery
>Wyrm
Line-shaped beastie
>Wyvern
no arms to hoard any Bling with
>Drake
blank space cause it has no wings

So, next time someone quizzes you on the differences, just remember HOTLINE BLING and you'll be ready in a snap!

A dragon is a demonic serpent. Usually it has no wings, unless it's a wyvern, wyverns are the most powerful of dragons, their poinsenous presence turns the surrounding area into infertile swamp and ruins kingdoms with its presence.
A wyrm is the darkspeech term for a dragon, it's only used by the despicable wyrmriders that would use its power to wreak havoc on the cities of more civilized cultures.
Drake is the name for a newly hatched dragon. Wyrmling in darkspeech.

How could you not know this? It's a universal truth permeating all fictional works involving dragons.

REEEEEEEEEEE

>>45916350

Why did medieval artists draw dragons as small cute creatures about to be killed for no reason?
>>
dragon = huge, powerful, smart, usually winged lizard
wyvern = dragon's smaller cousin from appalachia, his mother drank during the pregnancy
drake = indictment of the west's retarded infatuation with nigger culture in 2016
>>
>>45916473
I will have you know that's a fearsome drake, I reckon it happened upon Johnson B's farm yesterweek, and it damn well took away with the lives of two cows and a bull!
>>
>>45916122
This is literally all lies
>>
>>45916350

>Those eyes

Like killing a puppy man.
>>
>>45916473
Somebody saw an alligator once. Combine that secondhand description with good old medieval shit tier art and there you go.
>>
Skyrim had wyverns
>>
>>45915216
All the same thing.
>>
Isn't drake like male duck or goose or something?
>>
>>45916473
Because monks were cloistered all day drawing for the church while knights were out with people, having fun and continuing their bloodline. It's an eternal jab saying that knights aren't so great.
>>
>>45915775
They're basically shitty off-brand minidragons, so I'd assume they hoard silver.
>>
>>45917239
yeah

Absolutely none. They're all different words for the same thing, pay no mind to the autists here.

The ignorant peasants who couldn't tell it was a feathered Basilisk.
>>
Wyvern: "One thing is clear, I must kill them!"
Drake: "I must feed...slake my hunger!"
Wyrm: "Which shall you be...? Man? Dragon? Or aught else?"
Dragon: What is your purpose here, Arisen?

Has wings? Is dragon.

No wings? Wyrm.

All else is autism.
>>
>>45916473
For the same reason that medieval art depicting countless occasions of knights battling man-sized snails (and usually losing).

We just don't know.
>>
>>45916473
They didn't have enough paper/parchment/thread.
I've seen illustrations that outright say the monster is not to scale.
>>
>>45915216
As others have already said, there is no real difference unless specified by the specific setting, anyone telling you otherwise is a pedant who thinks the monster manual is a divine codex of perfect truth.
>>
Depends on the story.
