The emperor requires more mobile meat shields,
lets roll us a new regiment

So, the convict hive city regiment that specialises in siege warfare
is branded heretical, while still being loyal,
are dragged along with Arbites into battles against the Csm, while being disiplined as fuck

I guess the Arbites works as commissars on the battlefield and keeps them from completely turning traitors

None of this is too difficult to make work.

They're a convict regiment from a jungle infested hive world. First thought is to ask why Hives would develop on a jungle world, typically hives are put in place on a world rendered too difficult to live in other ways.

So we can assume the jungle is not friendly to human life. Not Deathworld level, but on some level humans cannot reliably survive outside the hives. So why leave the jungle in place? Why not do mass clearings for more living space? There's probably a valuable resource there, maybe some kind of megafauna that is part of the reasons things are deadly, but instead of just wiping them out, they're harvested for valuable substances. A possible candidate is some chemical that can be refined into a combat stimulant. Maybe an insectoid race, which would explain the regiment's preference for siege combat.

So we have a hive world where convicts are rounded up and forced into regiments of home guard that act as 'hunters'. These regiments besiege enormous insect hives to get in and capture queens, who they proceed to milk for the chemicals required to make the combat stimulant.

How does this play into the heretical facet? Perhaps the combat stimulant is administered to the regiments and - with some manipulation by the command staff - is viewed by the guardsmen as bringing them closer to the Emperor. They believe the Emperor's strength literally flows through them when on this stimulant. Obviously such a cult view would generate immense loyalty to the emperor (especially with the addictive properties of the stimulant), but would be viewed as incredibly heretical by the church of the Emperor.
>>
>>45836716
Maybe their homeworld did a Krieg and tried rebelling and now the populous has to atone
>>
>>45836901
9. Allmost heretical, fits with their "redeeming combat" theme

we are re rolling their homeworld using a different table

Rolled 5 (1d10)

The planet is actually a moon of a gas giant

Right, so we got a volcanic penal world with hidden necron tombs,
on wich a regiment of convict siege masters are being trained and shipped around the galaxy to wage war against chaos
under the watchfull eye of the arbites, while
a chapter of space marines is present on the moon, as they look over the border heretical
inmates and the sleeping death robots under the volcaones
>>
Ok in order to fluff them out even more we could start brainstorming on the following subjects:

>What is the name of the planet
>How long has it been a penal colony
>How many regiments have been draftet from this world?
>>
>>45837030
>siege masters
That's what their used for, not necessarily masters at it.

Everything else makes sense, they're ex-heretic hivers being sent to murder other heretic hivers in penitence, they're being trained on a known necron tomb world to slow them down when they wakeup.
>>
>>45837150
Port Botanis.
>>
>>45837150
someone bring up some mythological fire gods
the war records say no wars, wich could mean its relatively young and penal from the start, since there is little to no beneft of settling a volcanic moon with dormant necron

>>45837169
makes sense, but we still need to come up with their special vehicle
>>
>>45837193
>no beneft of settling a volcanic moon with dormant necron

The benefit is when the bastards start to stir we'll have a whole army ready to take em on, I imagine the space marines are there for a similar purpose.

Before we decide on a vehicle, we need to work out why they need one. What would they face that would necessitate it.
>>
>>45837263
Unstable terrain, so i suggest something floaty or flying
>>
>>45837286
How about heat resistant sentinels? They can for example walk in pools of lava and hot rocks withut sustaining damage for a short period of time
>>
>>45837193
Something with Purgamen would be fitting for a name, means atonement/impurity.
>>
>>45837300
i had a eureka moment, and i imagined this giant floating platform littered with weapons batteries and cover, imagine an aircraft carrier that floats above the surface, and on its main deck are turrets and cover/bunkers

but it's just an idea
>>
For the name of the gas giant and it's moon how about: Hades Majoris and Hades Minoris?
>>
>>45837317
Hades is used all over the place in the lore.
>>
>>45837317
What about Hekkaton Prime and Hekkaton Secundus, Secundus being the moon
>>
>>45837341
I like it!
>>
>>45837300
Heat-resistant sentinels with integrated jump packs to jump/hop/leap from patch of not-lava to patch of not-lava?
>>
>>45837370
so, a Hekkaton-pattern Sentinel?
>>
>>45837396
How useful would a sentinel be to a siege regiment?
>>
>>45837412
Big guns, fast feet
>>
>>45837396
Sounds good.

>>45837412

Since it is a siege regiment from a jungle world, it could have a sentinel-sized chainblade as another standard armament with an option to swap it out for a pneumatic ram to punch down doors and walls.

So I guess they're sort of mini-knights? Knaves?
>>
>>45837428
We re-rolled to world for a volcanic penal moon, so the jungle world would probably just be a source of convicts

and for sentinels cc is a bad choise due to the lack of armor, we could re-work a chimera or a leman russ to be a mobile battering ram though, the mechanicum isnt happy but the regiment is allready borderline heretical
>>
>>45837440
Agreed.

As a siege regiment they'd normally have heavier armour and artillery. We could play around with a Medusa siege cannon, it might not fit on a sentinel, but I'm sure we can stick it on something cheap, as a penal regiment I can't imagine we're well supplied.
>>
>>45837483
That would invent a new tank, probably not usefull in any scenario exept when you need to send a medusa siege cannon shell trough a wall or gate at a point-blank range
>>

Manticore.jpg

>>45837502
How about we make use of manicores in order to blow up weak points when we seige?
>>
>>45837513
You think we could staple a medusa siege cannon on a manticore chasis?
>>
>>45837522
They all use a chimera chassis, it would be a Medusa. While I'm not against it, it's not unique.

How about a sentinel with a thunderer trapped to it?
>>
>>45837536
Is grav technology out of the question?
>>
>>45837558
Depends, are we hereteks?
>>
>>45837618
Rolled 9 out of 10 of the heresy scale, so allmost
>>
Just going to fluff the world out a bit:

Prison Complex "Ceta"

Next to the giant lava rivers of Arbetia lies the prison complex known as Ceta. This giant structure is the "home" of over 500.000 convicts from planets all across the sector. You can find gangers, drug addicts, petty thieves, murderes and other scum in this facility.

Ceta is run by low warden Klas Kentarus, a ruthless man known for throwing uncooprative prisoners out into the scorched landscape.
But this has resulted in very strict and diciplined inmates. This makes them prime candidated for when it is time to raise a new penal regiment
