Tell me about your cubes /tg/.
What kind of cube is it? What archetypes are there? Want anything from EMA?
>>
>>45637155
I decided if I ever were to make a cube it would have to be something totally outside the box. I made that cube.

It's a Pokémon TCG cube. :^)
>>
>>45637914
That sounds absolutely miserable
>>
>>45637155
Just how artifact heavy is that cube?

Cube where every card is bad.
>>
>>45638303
I've heard of someone making that.

Apparently it is REALLY fucking boring.

Imagine shitty vanilla vs shitty vanilla.
>>
>>45638400
Imagine the feeling when Aladdins ring hits the boad.
>>
>>45638303
This is one of the worst things you could do. Watcing paint dry is more interesting.
>>
>>45638303
Not exactly, but this was a pretty fun experiment. I haven't playtested it extensively but i tried hard to avoid a tendency towards bullshit do-nothing games.

540 powered cube for glimpse drafting. A quarter of it is high quality foil proxies because I don't want to be a rube that drops 20k on a casual format.
>>
>>45638303
Why not just draft a recent magic set?
>>
>>45638303
I did this, but I made it interesting. Bad cards are relative, you focus on making your cube have an easy to work with mana curve, and instead of vanilla stuff, you use things with unwieldly abilities or drawbacks. Bad cards can have synergy, even, and synergy between bad cards is how you handle it.

For instance, Odyssey Block had a lot of really bad red creatures in it, stuff like 2 mana fro a 3/1 barbarian that makes you discard a card when you play him. Put in some stuff with Flashback or Unearth or Dredge or whatever, and suddenly it's still horrible, but playable.

You also need utility cards, just to make things go. You can use sorta crappy utility cards, though, or you can use normal stuff like dark Banmishing or Rampant Growth. I would go on the side of making ramping/mana fixing utility in a Bad card Cube really, really good so that you can actually play your bad cards. Having good draw engines helps too, since you know you won't be drawing very many bombs anyway. I would make removal and burn cards in a Bad Cube crappy but not unplayable. You want to be able to finish off a weakened opponent by cutting out a blocker or burning him, but you don't want to make burn a real strategy. Making removal crappy was the last thing I did before I solved the riddle of how to make a Bad Card Cube.

In addition to the central gimmick that every single creature is a 1/2, there are some subthemes built in that lend a kind of cohesion to it (enchantment subtheme in G/W/B, flashback/delve and artifact synergies).

I also added a lot of cantrips and unorthodox card draw to help avoid situations where people are just top-decking out of a board stall.

Overall, though, the 1/2 rule was extremely hard to work with. I should look at Oath and see if there are any good candidates for inclusion...

>What kind of cube is it?
I have a multiplayer cube currently built for 4-6 players that I eventually plan to build it up to incorporate 8 players and some manual dexterity cards. The Chaos Orb pictured is an Collectors edition Chaos Orb so its not actually worth anything and has a gold border on the back, but looks great and a tiny tiny fraction of the cost of an actual chaos orb never mind the cost of an actual black bordered version.
What archetypes are there?
The cube has a lot of built in synergies with itself I guess the archtypes would be the colour pairs.
Want anything from EMA?
I'd like some quality staples to be reprinted there are a lot of cool legacy cards that I'd like to own but are quite expensive not really hoping for much, I'm actually more excited for the new conspiracy set.

Sorry about the photo quality sun is directly in my window.
>>
>>45637155
I guess I'd call my cube "Extended" because it includes lots of cards and strategies from the old days of extended

540, powered and foiled out. I hope EMA will feature some cards that didn't have a foil version before.
>>
>>45640973
By the way, this is the 3rd edition Grimoire from Wizardry Foundry. It looks pretty, but sucks ass. Poor build quality, doesn't store enough cards. I have to keep my lands and tokens in a separate box. Really poor value for money, would not recommend.

What are you guys using for Cube storage?
>>
>>45641041
I just store it in those cardboard boxes that you can buy at your LGS
>>
>>45641041
>>45641169
I also do this, when I travel with it I stuff it in a good quality water proof backpack with other boxes so it can't move around.
>>

I have a 360 Peasant Cube, stored in an RTR Holiday gift box since that thing's damn near indestructible.

I haven't been able to get the time or spare cash to buy sleeves for everything, so for the moment they're sitting in MM2 cartons to draft out of. Sadly once they get sleeved I won't be able to use them.

My cube is a 360/450 unpowered that I power up for Xmas and July (currently 360). Its the usual good stuff cube, but a bit more aggresive than most.

Overall is a fairly standard cube, archtypes like Reanimator, welder, wildfire, aristocrats, blink, tempo, weenie, Reveilark combo, CoCo etc.

I've been building mine since Alara so a good while now. Its onle of the all time most drafted on Cubetutor. I freaking love it. Even got Cube FNMs firing for it.

For storage I just use the new BFZ holiday box. Glue up the small gaps and its pretty tough.

I use Hyper matte black Kmcs obv.

Give it a draft at Www.cubetutor.com/draft/1572

Pic is last FNMs X-0 deck. Turn 1 moxdiamond, entomb bloodghast. Play land animate bloodghast, play a guy. Thats my fucking jam.
>>
>>45639768
Moat? You really must hate fun.
>>
>>45641881
Unf that deck. It's things like this which you cant see in constructed that really make magic fun.
>>
What's an interesting, unconventional archetype to put in my unpowered cube?
>>
>>45642651
I know right? It's why cube is THE best format.

>>45642706
Not sure if you would consider it unconventional, but deck that use Goblin bombardment, blood artist etc make for GREAT games of mtg.
>>
>>45642928
what kind of cards do you use to support this strategy?
>>
>>45642944
Im off to bed in a minute so i can't list everything, but. Look through my black and red sections for ideas. I only have it as a light splash, but you can go much deeper.

>>

why does Sword of the Animist have a Mythic symbol?

Probably some custom card maker bullshit

It doesn't have the M15 border either
>>
>>45638064
>>45644868
It's Base Set up to Team Rocket. Not all the pokémon are in. There are more basics than phase 1s, and more phase 1s than phase 2s. If you want to draft a certain evolution chain, it usually works out fine. Also, there are lots of trainer in there for fixing and smoothing out decks.

Moat is one of the most fun cards you can put in a Cube. I'd actually argue that cards like Armageddon and Upheaval are much worse offenders, but I'd never dream of cutting either.
>>
I have 600 commons from DTK, between 2 and 8 copies of each
I also have a bunch of new Magic players to entertain
Can I do a low power pauper cube to introduce them to draft ?
>>
>>45653292
Just do it and report with the results.
>>
>>45653292
Although I'd probably add a few uncommons and rares for more synergies and splashiness.

I cannot imagine red not being by far the best color.
>>
>>45653596
Because it never actually destroys the opponent's permanents it creates a subgame where the the opponent has to sneak in a way to destroy the Mote or give his team flying, and where as soon as he does he is likely to win.

Some people say that it slows the game down, but so does plenty of other cards, like Wrath of God and Winter Orb, and Moat does not lock the opponent out nearly as much as a well placed Geddon effect.

My first cube:
http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/40757
Its small because we only are 4 players and I didnt want to order a ton of cards, these were all I found in my collection. I tried to focus mainly on allied colors because of the size.
Any feedback?
>>
>>45654843
A cube that small, you're probably better off not having any multicolored cards, since your fixing is so limited. The unbalance of colors is a bit disconcerting as well.
>>
>>45654843
seems ok although I would recommend expanding it to accommodate 8 players
>>
>>45637155
I am toying with the idea of having a sort of rarity system in the cube to be able to include cards which care for multiple copies of cards.
Something like some cards would have 5 copies, other would have 3 copies and many still would have only 1 copy.

Has any of you tried something along the line? How did it work out?
>>
>>45658804
Depends how big the cube is. 360 seems too small to pull this stunt.
>>
>>45659410
Yes I did a bit of calculation, and 360 is really thight if you want to do this...

I am also not sure how to best communicate this while drafting. That you pull a card and immediately think "there were 5 of these in the cube, so I could try to draft in this direction."
>>
>>45660324
By telling people. Everyone who doesn't know any cubes list is at a disadvantage
>>
Hey, i need ideas for a cube? is tribal any fun? i can see it ending badly mostly because there would be an increase in the chance you get shit you have no use for if everyone drafts that.
>>
>>45655482
I drafted the set online a bit and it seems fine. Adding to that, a lot of the multicolored cards are hybrid mana ones. Also, what do 1-2 cards in either color direction harm?

I bought every Orgins Common and Uncommon to make a cube and play Magic for only $25 with all of my friends. I thought it would be shit, but it's actually pretty fun. There is no huge, powerful cards, but when that 5/4 wurm hits the field, it gets pretty intense.
>>
>>45660561
Tribal cube kinda sucks since you have to be pretty lenient on your decks.
>>
>>45660443
Of course, I tell them the cube list. There is s difference between knowing the cube list and seeing the rarity on the card itself.
>>
>>45658804
There's a desert cube that has ~22 copies of kindle and it looks like it would be pretty funny to play
>>
>>45661570

Is desert the one where you have to draft basics if you want them? because that set had a bunch of repeated cards for flavor reasons
>>
>>45661570
I just looked at it... why did he put basic lands in there. Do you need to draft you complete mana base in this thing? O_o
>>
>>45662052
>>45661941

The whole Desert idea was just that, you were playing in a desert so rather than just pulling land out of the station, you actually have to look for it.

It added a nice little skill level to it, as you now had to consider what colors you could afford based on land avaliability
>>
>>45662313
How many pack are you drafting? six?

Khans block is a fantastic limited format I know two people in my area who have khans cubes one is uncommons & commons, one is a selection of the cards from all three sets both are good.
