>Dungeons and Dragons
>Barbarian wants a small battering ram

Should I let him?
>>
>>45501216
Of course not. If they need something to destroy doors with just give wizard knock as a cantrip.
>>
There's a portable ram in the SRD equipment section, at least in 3.5
>>
>>45501216
why would you not...
>>
>>45501312
>Implying retarded 9 int barbarian can be trusted with a battering ram
>not giving potentially dangerous thing into the hands of a person who can use it responsibly
>>
>>45501216
Portable ram is a legit item in the rulebook, this shouldn't even be in question barbarians don't get much utility outside of combat so letting him have a crack at breaking down doors is no different to letting your rogue attempt to pick a lock on a door.
>>
>>45501216
I fail to see how attacking door with Improvised Weapon is any better than attacking it with regular weapon.
>>
>>45501350
>retarded 9 int
Truly the threeaboos, 4rries, and (whatever derisive term has been created to mock 5th edition players) are the worst.
>>
>>45501350

>Playing D&D
>Being responsible

Sounds like a super fun campaign you guys are playing.

I don't see why you can't give it to your barbarian. Make him pay the cost of a maul or some other bludgeoning weapon so he can use it in combat too.

Remember, try not to say "no" as a DM. The characters want to fuck up everything, let them fail. A mini-ram is going to wake every creature in a huge radius and they will all funnel into the same room to kill the barb.

Your wizard gets some burn damage with AoE stuff, the rogue gets behind the team and uses ranged weapons for sneak attacks, and your cleric can heal the team.

I think this would be a fun encounter, to be honest. Let the barbarian have his mini-ram.
>>
>>45501350
Found THAT DM.
>>
>>45501365
But a battering ram isn't improvised; it's a tool meant for a specific job
>>
>>45501216
I've seen them in action. They're perfectly fine.
>>
>>45501350
>No, Orgoth SwordLord, that battering ram is far too dangerous to be trusted in your dimwitted hands.

Slightly below average isn't retarded, retard.

Battering Ram

No, the only available battering ram is in ur mom's ass.

Oh wait, that's my dick

There isn't one because why would you mock someone who makes good decisions? :^)
>>
>>45502611
Yeah, you hire that guy to make the marinades.
Get the cleric to do the cooking.
>>
if he's a good Barbarian, he took a two-handed weapon. there's your door remover.

>Giving him a small ram

He's a big boy and he needs a big boy weapon
>>
>>45502611
Was coming in to say this.

If the Barbarian has average or so wisdom I'd trust him not to use it when he shouldn't.
>>
>>45501216
Yes. Not that he likely needs it but its a cool piece of kit to have and it makes sense for an adventurer to carry.
>>

But Wisdom is used for responsible decisions. Give it to the cleric.

>"Hey, Skullcracker, do you want a new toy?"
>>
Those Rams are heavy they don't get packed around on backs during adventures. They get taken out of the trunk of the police car and used to breach a single primary door. So if the Barbarian wants to carry around a 50 lb single application tool, let him.
>>
>>45503588
They're 11 lbs.

It's the comic equivalent of the thoughts of a disgruntled office-worker about to go postal.

You have clearly never packed 50 lbs all day long walking somewhere.
>>

In 3.5 at least
>>

Maybe -2 to hit? Battering ram as a weapon seems super unwieldy
>>
>>45501216

Why wouldn't you let him get the appropriate tool for busting doors exactly ? And how would you justify it ?

I'd consider 9 to just be a little on the uneducated side, like a highschool dropout.

Besides, responsabile use of power sounds more like a Wisdom thing than an Intelligence thing.

I'm pretty sure that regardless of wisdom though, a slightly thick Barbarian understands the concept of 'use ram to hit door, not halfling hostage or priceless artifact'
>>
>>45504404
>Thinking IQ testing provides an accurate measure of intelligence.
You appear to lack depth in emotional intelligence. This is likely why you drive other people away.
>>

It's okay anon. You're special, but I'll teach you
>Retardation cutoff is 70 or below, plus deficits in 2 or more (just read pic related)
>IQ 70 is the 2nd percentile, meaning it's lower than 98% of the population, not 50%
>IQ 70 and below corresponds to intelligence scores 4 and below

As for intelligence 9, it's not the brightest bulb, but not the dimmest either.
>corresponds to IQ 93, barely below average
>corresponds to 32nd percentile, meaning higher than roughly a third of the population
>associated with manual laborers like farmhands, factory workers, gardeners, and republican presidential candidates

Does it really make sense to say that the average person is stupid, if the average person is of average intelligence, and stupidity is generally defined as below-average intelligence?
>>
>>45504875
Non anon, being stupid IS the average.
>>

implying IQ on children is comparable to IQ on adults. And not meant to be compared to other children.

>>
>>45505692
Because my mother thought I was a smart kid. I did amazing on the IQ test to get a 142.
>>45505686
Yeah. My IQ dropped 7 points to a 135 as a college freshman.

>>
>>45505656
Friendly reminder that IQ isn't meant to test geniuses rather find the dumb dumbs
>>
>>45505719
Peoples' IQ drops as they age. Apparently the test rewards fluid intelligence (which kids have more of) as opposed to crystallized intelligence (the sort adults get more of)

>My IQ dropped 7 points as a college freshman.
All that alcohol really gets to your head.
>>
>>45502611
although I'd really like my chef to know food
>>
>>45504404
imo int approximates to 1/10 of the character's IQ, this gets wonky above about 16-18 int but I find it usually works well for players and most npc's

This would mean in my world 7 or lower int is legally retarded by modern standards, and 8-9 represents an idiot who is not actually retarded. 10-11 is the average commoner and anything above that can range from bright to genius.
>>
>>45506190
>not having a chef that feels food

the plebbest
>>
>>45501216
Is there a Dwarf in the party?
>>
>>45505829
The calculation of the test is also, (or was originally) mental age/ real age * 100.

So aging affects the results.
>>
>>45501259
How the fuck is that a better solution? Wizards get to do plenty of cool shit anyway; let the barbarian have his fun. A portable ram isn't going to break the game.
