OKAY. SO.
I recently found out about this and this thread looks like my only opportunity to share what I've learned:

Capcom recently released some new concept art for MONSTER HUNTER and in one of them it finally revealed a major plot point/world building piece of information about the world:

Monster Hunter essentially takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where in Mankind and Dragons fought a massive war against one another with the Dragons themselves turning themselves more and more into Genetically Enhanced Cyborgs.
The Humans in turn began turning and producing Dragon Hunters who were similarly Genetically enhanced and so forth to fight these Mecha-Dragon-Genocide Machines.

Both sides eventually ended up driving one another to extinction and the remaining bio-weapons on both sides were let loose into the wild; the functional ones eventually breeding, surviving, de-evolving and become less "militarized" and more "naturalized", thus producing the flora and fauna of creatures we see today.

This includes the humanoid races we see today- whom at one point where completely genetically engineered and manufactured for various purposes and castes, but have since evolved and bred into their own natural niches.

That's...actually really fucking cool. I don't even play MH and honestly, this has made me interested. I do have a 3DS though, maybe I should start.
>>
>>45484741
Name of said game? Can't find that specific Monster Hunter.
>>
>>45484925
>Name of said game? Can't find that specific Monster Hunter.

It isn't the backstory for any specific "game", but the entire "Monster Hunter Series".

The Monster Hunter Series takes place 10's of thousands of years in the "future" where in the history of the Dragon wars have been long since forgotten and all the weaponized creatures and dragons have become perfectly mundane and ordinary creatures people hunt and so forth to fuel the economy.

The Games never explicitly elaborate on the "forgotten history" as no records have obviously survived that long and people have excited and survived for so long they too themselves have evolved and become naturalized beyond their artificial origins.

The people living within the world don't humor any such notions of "lost history" and assume that Monsters, Dragons and Dinosaurs are just as natural as any other creature and this is just normal life for them. You never get any explicit hints or tidbits about this history, but with that said:

Screenshot related.
The places you go to hunt often have little clues laying around: The Primal Forest specifically being made up of the massive Fossilized skeleton of three ancient weaponized Dragons.

What would I even look up to find more mech animals? These things are fucking awesome!

Oh hey I have that book. I never thought of it in that interpretation. Makes a lot more sense when you put it that way though. Has there been anything else released on the topic beside that page and the other small mentions? A lot of those details are new to me.

I like the concept, but on the other hand there's also a sketched chart in the back of the book showing how all the wyvern subspecies arose through convergent evolution.

Not sure which explanation I like more really.

Great, you get to be a PACT Seaman assigned to an aircraft carrier.

You're park of Deck department, your job is to chip paint and clean all day. If a plane-bird gets loose and shits all over something you're the guy who gets to go clean it up.

Don't worry though eventually you'll be e yo strike for a rate, but because of peer pressure you'll strike Boatswain's Mate and still have to do the exact same job until you rotate to shore duty.

And then you'll re-enlist to keep your fat dependopotamus wife who you know cheats when you're on deployment happy and because you forgot how to be a civilian so you'll rotate back to sea and be the LPO of Deck department so now you supervise people doing the shit you hated for years and oh fuck the plane literally bit that 18yo kid straight out of bootcamps arm off right in front of you and fuck you're on the hook for it too.

Now you feel like you've got PTSD and lost a pay grade, but you suck it up and make first again, before you know it you've made chief but you feel like you're dead inside and even though you're back on shore duty doing a cushy job and divorced that fat bitch wife and have a new one who actually loves you, the idea of retirement and not being in the military anymore is too much for you so you decide to suck on your 1911 because your entire career nobody ever told you it's okay to get help.

>>

I hate when people repeat this. It's concept art from MH1 that never got implemented in any game. MonHun doesn't need a 2deep4u post-apocalypse backstory.

They have the lowest proportion of female personnel out of all branches by a huge margin and the lowest proportion of minority groups.

But breaking the fuck out of the enemy moral is very effective.
Not to mention not being able to kill what you can see and it being all up in your face is more horrifying.
>>
>>45493059
Predator drone, because when they JDAMs you're ass, you won't see it coming, you don't where they'll strike next or when.

Thus breaking enemy morale and induce PTSD more effectively then a huge ass dragon mech that could be seen miles away, and thus your average enemy soldier can anticipate the general direction of where the attack is going to happen.

The general populace kind of forgot that the reason why vets get PTSD is not because they shat their pants when they say the enemy missiles and guns being fired at them, its not seeing them that's the problem and having the feeling of dread that at any moment some missile, bomb or landmine IED is going to blow up in their face.
>>
>>45502019
>Thus breaking enemy morale and induce PTSD more effectively then a huge ass dragon mech that could be seen miles away
That's the point. Something that's very very huge would be like a god to them as it fucks up their infantry. Not to mention if it's the talkative variety, then it can taunt their asses as it shoots big ass missiles and lasers.
>>
>>45502076
Anon, its a big fucking target.

The enemy knows where it is, and can gauge out pretty accurately all of its strengths, weaknesses and performance specs and armaments as well as extrapolate its MO. Which is a death sentence in the age of electronic and information centric warfare.

Because if you can predict where its going and shooting, you can plan your strategic and tactical movement to never engage it in combat and just achieve more important objectives before spamming all your missiles at it, or hell even capture it once you break the enemy chain of command, communication network and logistics.

The Equal Dragon Weapon concept art isn't really canonized in-game like, say, hunting robots (the Artian armor set) and sea people. Call me a stick-in-the-mud but I think you're reading a little too heavily between the lines and considering it canon. The creators themselves state in interviews that the game and setting as a whole were originally going to be much darker and more high-fantasy (hence things like the EDW, the mummy-hydra-cobra thing, and pic related in the earliest concept art in Monster Hunter Illustrations 1).
The massive bones in the Primeval Forest can be attributed to lao-shan lung, where in-game you are said to only fight juvenile specimens and adults actually live up to their title of "Moving Mountain of Sanctity."

I'm not saying that this couldn't become canon in future games, since capcom's shown repeatedly that concepts are merely shelved rather than discarded (I'm almost tempted to say Gogmazios is a more current-setting-friendly incarnation of the EDW idea), but for now there's not much evidence for anything beyond "Some shit went down back in the day and Schrade's been leveled and fatalis squats there."
