The snowfall has gotten worse again. In the morning when the tribe first steps out onto the tundra the ground is already covered in a thick sheet of snow. Fortunately the lumber brought in keeps the cave mostly warm. Still the cold clings to any who venture out, the lack of warm clothes painfully apparent.

Not far to the south the Silent Village toils away with the same vigor as always. The Giants sent there to guard them find a sizable home set up for them. A pair of soft, straw beds and thick woven blankets, along with a large stone firepit keeping them warm against the nights chill. However no clothes are offered and when asked about it the answer is always the same. “The agreement was protection for provisions, things such as clothing and armaments are for you to provide until the Long Dark has passed.” Number 5, the blue being that speaks for the village can be seen moving about the humans at all hours of the day, aloof and apart from the mute humans around him.

Back at the cave the mammoths are acting up more and more, the bull is more ornery than before. Chuffing and even shoving away any who approach the sows. It takes some work but finally one of the tribesmen manages to sneak close and finds a pleasant surprise. One of the sows is with child! The news is rather exciting to the Tribe.

Welcome back To Giants On Ice!

The snow is not melting.

A few of your scouts are growing restless. The Ice Quartz is growing in Onir’s cavers behind the waterfall. While your Tribe doesn’t know much about its properties aside from it growing from moisture it’s only purpose now is as a catalyst for the Crymancer.

Far in his own cavern Yira can be heard crying out in frustration, his struggle against Fire is going slower than expected. Slow is not a trait for pyromancers. In his passionate fury the crackling of fire and orange flash of flame can be seen, marking his domain.

Outside the snow is steadily falling, thick clouds blanket the world in a soft grey.

A few Giants are rounded up and set out into the blanketed tundra. The cold stings their cheeks skin and numbs their fingers but they push on. It takes longer than expected to spot a herd of husky, thick-furred, brown bison. They pause against the side of a hill, waiting. After a few moments they rise and charge at the unsuspecting herd, whooping and shouting as loud as they can. The herd scatters but many are clubbed down.

You send out a few Tribesmen to take a trip down to the Silent Village. The trip is slow and cold but your Giants make the trip well enough. They are greeted by Number 5, the small blue representative of the village. “Welcome, your arrival is ahead of schedule. “What exactly are you? Youre clearly not human. Some kind of elf?” You Giant shakes his head, shivering a bit against the cold.

:”I am Number 5, vat-grown life with restrictive protocols implanted.” It tilts its head to the side, precise and mechanical as ever. “I am my brethren are Homunculi. Our serfs are human-based. If that is all I have much to attend to.” It begins to turn away, back towards the low lights of the village.

“Actually, we wanted to know if you can help us get ahold of some wood, we are having difficulty harvesting it on our own. The winter here is far worse than anything we’ve ever seen before.”

5 snaps back around, its blank gaze resting on your Giant a moment. “Parameters are within acceptable ranges to supply you with stored lumber.” It stands, silent and unmoving, your Giants shifting their feet in the snow unsure how to proceed. After a few minutes a group of humans pulling a cart come into view from the village, they reveal the cart to have several bundles of thick Hardwood. Without another word 5 turns around and returns to the village with his human serfs in tow. (+10 Lumber)

The sun is struggling to be seen, every day its getting darker.

Its clear that the stored food your tribe has wont last you through whats sure to be a long winter. 4 Giant are sent out to hunt in the dwindling light of the day. They are gone for more than 2 days before they return, missing one. The hunters are clearly distraught, saying their missing number vanished into the dark of light to relieve himself and never returned. They searched and searched but in the end all they could do is hunt what they could. A meager bit of bison. (+2 Food, +4 Pelts)

2 of your clan are with child.

5 Giants are sent out to gather more lumber, despite the clutching cold and the long distance of travel they take the journey. It takes a full day for them to return. Breathless and chilled but whole. (+10 Lumber)
One of them say she saw something flying around the eastern mountains. She couldn’t tell what it was in the lowlight and clouds but she is pretty sure it is quite large.

The Cave-Door is finished, the triumph of over a month’s worth of labor. It is shoddy and full of finger-wide gaps but at least it will keep out the worst of the cold and snow. (Carpentry Unlocked)

Several Giants take to the night to find the missing child but, with the constant snowfall tracks are impossible to find and thanks to the low light its difficult to make out shapes in the distance. The child’s mother is inconsolable, she weeps by herself away from the fire.

In the meantime you have some of the Tribe take careful note of the days since you arrived here. That, coupled with the remaining knowledge from before and youre sure youll be able to keep track of the seasons in good time (Calendar research 3 Turns)

When your Giants who were guarding the Silent Village return they are accompanied by Number 5. “It is unusual for me to be away from the compound for long but given the distance between your people and mine, I think this rotation will be the last of the season. “Excellent, as per our agreement I have brought supplies, with a small bit extra given the timeframe will be unable to trade.” Wordlessly a group of grey-robed humans shamble up to the cave’s mouth, pack heavily laden with foods. Their lips are blue and their skin is an unhealthy pale but still they move with silent, will-less movements to place the supplies inside the cave mouth. (+4 Food)

“Follow me.” Number 5 chirps at your Giants before turning and vanishing into the evening night, its entourage of humans in tow.

In the spring we need to make weirs or crabtraps for whatever food we can get from the river

Your Tribe sets to turning the cured hides into warm clothing. Progress is slow without proper needles but with a splinter of Ice Quartz the task is tolerable. It doesn’t take long for the pelts to be put together in proper fashion. (+ 4 Hide Sets) (-12 Pelts)

Equip in their new furs 4 gatherers set out to the shallow river. None are too surprised to find it frozen over but still they poke around in an attempt to find any of the crabs from before. The finds are few and far between, the bulk of the crustaceans having burrowed into the frozen ground for winter. (+2 Food)
