blade runner was awesome, now if only it had anything to do with the book it would be easily in my top 5. Och and thats not how you spell Stalker

>>45375962
Blade Runner NOT having anything to do with the book was one of the best moves it could possibly have made.

imho opinion it was one of the best books dick wrote. It's not really all that in his style, but as far as cyberpunk and overall SF gouse, it's a must read.

Okay, I'll put it this way:

Are you okay with the pot-boiler sci-fi stories cranked out in the 60's?

If yes, you'll be entertained.

If not, it's a waste of time.

No, the best 40k movie is still Event Horizon.

The book is alright. It's got some good moments but it's not really anything special. It's also pretty different from the movie. Especially the ending.

Don't read it if it's your first Dick book, there are much better entry level ones. Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch blew my fucking mind when I was in high school, Scaner Darkly and The Man from High Castle are great(Scaner Darkly has a nice movie based on it). From what I remember DADoES has shitload of references and "Dickology", which you wouldn't get if you aren't already familiar with the author.
It's worth it though. His books aren't consistently good but they always are a wild rides.

Is there a suggested movie list?
I'd suggest Labyrinth, Never Ending Story, Heavy Metal, and Lion in Winter.
>>
>>45380859
>Is there a suggested movie list?
It would just be a list of good/cult genre films. There's not a lot of criteria into saying what movies are essentially /tg/ because most genre settings coincide with /tg/ settings and that's all that really matters. Every western or noir or scifi can be a /tg/ movie because we play those settings and scenarios.

They both deal with completely distinct aspects of the Imperium (adeptus arbites vs. warp travel/gellar fields) so comparing them doesn't really make sense. But yeah, together they are both the best 40k movies, and a nod to >>45379475 as well.

>>
>>45376606
I still adore the movie, cheese and all. It's so fun. And the music kicks so much ass.

The thing with the car changing hands feels like it could have been a running gag at the table. And the final sledgehammer duel feels like a good example of how to do a one on one fight where the rest of the party characters are still present and invested in the action. The NPCs even show up to watch.

Walter Hill movies are good movies to watch with friends. Even the one with Charles Bronson as an underground bare knuckle fighter. His stuff always has an undercurrent of camaraderie that brings to mind TRPG sessions.

>>45379622
Eye in the Sky isn't his meatiest work, but it's always been my favorite just because the plot's gimmick is so unique and awesome and its easy for beginners to get into.

I've always thought that taken together as mirror images of one another his best works are Ubik and Maze of Death. They reflect the gradual darkening of PKD's views on hypostasic states and are very interesting in that regard.

>>
>>45376013

>>
>>45383469
Yeah, but it's pre-Jurassic park. I see it as Michael Chriton toying with the idea. The inclusion of Dinos years later perfected his idea by nailing the "playing with god" theme.
>>
>>45380462
No one has suggested Dark Crystal either. Could it be because boys in the setting have -2 wings?

Also, no Star Wars? Is it because it would be too obvious?

Original Star Trek always felt very tabletop to me. Three player characters and assorted NPCs and red shirt hirelings meet up each week to explore a new planet. The DM keeps resorting to energy alien gods as antagonists because the party min-maxed diplomacy (Kirk) and intelligence checks (Spock). Bones was the heal bitch. And best character.

The players would complain every once in awhile for a new setting. Someone wants to run a modern game. Someone wants to a Roman Gladiator game. Someone wants ship to ship combat. Someone wants space station intrigue with tribbles. So the DM compromises to fit all these things into the overarching campaign.

One time the DM's girlfriend breaks up with him and we get Spock's Brain.

It even has strange moments that could only come out of a tabletop game such ashttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miD1drD5M3w
>>
>>45383489

I always love how people think Crichton hated science when really he just hated people because he thought they were too stupid to use science responsibly.
>>
>>45383371
AND YOU
AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU

I don't think I'm getting a tabletop vibe. But its my go-to to explain how a PC or a party should fight against a seemingly invincible, persistent "nemesis" like foe. Even before the Terminator. The last third of the movie is basically a running battle.

>>
You are correct, OP.

Everyone obviously knows that Shadowrun is heavily inspired by Blade Runner.

It's pretty clear that Cyberpunk 2020 and its other variations are also inspired by Blade Runner.

But behold Android.

This board game was originally conceived as Blade Runner: The Game, but there was no way the devs or the publisher could possibly secure the rights necessary for that.

This is a storytelling game to rival Tales of the Arabian Nights. It is unquestionably my favorite game in my collection.

Android's setting is the same setting Android: Netrunner is set in. It also hosts Android: Infiltration (which is unfortunately basically an Incan Gold ripoff) and the upcoming game Android: Mainframe.

I have little doubt that Fantasy Flight will eventually create an Android RPG, given that they're about to publish a 272-page Android setting book.

Blade Runner was already a /tg/ movie, but it will only become more so as the years pass.
