Destiny's story is garbage but the universe seems cool. Has anyone got shit done and made an RPG/adapted one for it? Or is there one that would translate easily?

GURPS

every damn time.
>>
>>45266453
I too have this same question. And no answer.
>>
>>45270556
>>45266453
I'm sure there's a dozen hackable systems for it. It just takes time. I looked into the mechanics the game itself uses, not really good for translating to tabletop.

Do you want a tactical Shooter?
d20 modern, GURPS, Shadowrun, Traveller
Do you want a little more run and gun?
Mythic, Savage Worlds, 6d6

I'm just kind of rolling off the top of my head. I can look through my Sci-Fi folders and see what might fit, but I don't play Destiny, so I'm working at a disadvantage.

>>45270444
It's a universal system.
>>
FFG Star Wars might be a nice system to run it in. Triump or a number of advantage to trigger the class ability seems like it would work. Also means you don't have to keep track of cooldowns or equivalent.
>>
>>45270711
After going through my stuff, InFlames seemed the best fit. It uses the WEG d6 system, so not super complex.
>>
>>45271278
Post the PDFs? I've never heard of this, but the WEG d6 system is my favorite I've ever played with.
>>
>>45266453
Hack Shadowrun or put together a good GURPS ruleset if you've got time on your hands. Loot is a big part of Destiny, so you want to get together some decent rules for modular guns. If /tg/ever gets shit done with Lost Source, you could refluff that as well.

*World is easy to hack and would lend itself very well to this, but it's incredibly unsatisfying mechanically.

If you just care about tactical combat, play Strike! and write up some custom classes and abilities. Can't really go wrong there.
>>
>>45272300
>If /tg/ever gets shit done with Lost Source, you could refluff that as well.
Lost Source is shit, even if it gets complete. Y I ire better off ignoring it and it's shit rules
>>
>>45266453
tried, failed several times, the game's themes are a mash-up between fighter/paladin.ranger/rogue.wizard/warlock D&D with modern's feats, the ultramodern firearms third-party splat, and d20 future's gadget system with some powers/abilities/spells reworked to fit the dynamic

alternately, since I'm so used to d20 in general, pardon my french, I'd just turn all the spell-like abilities you see in the game into class-specific items of gear and other tech-based sources of effect, all the magical mumbojumbo comes from explaining how Tier 7+ tech even operates within the realm of known physics.

Really, just take any modern/futuresque RPG that has consideration for space opera level tech and above written in somewhere and hack it until you have something appreciable

of course that means you'll have warlocks that cloak, titans with a golden gun, and a hunter teleporting while dropping a gigantic flaming hammer into a mob, but hey

If you want to play destiny, play the REAL heroes. A kabal fireteam.

Guardians are immortal assholes that keep rolling through your firebase, atomising all your friends with weird magic powers, and dancing on their ashes.

Get a team together, bait the assholes out, lure them into a darkness zone, and turn it into a killbox.

Fuck guardians, they're all 12 year old screamers.

They're pretty fed up with that shit, actually.
>>

Taken King has fundamentally changed how light works. It's now entirely separate from your level, and functions as your "Equipment level" instead. You reach level 40 by doing missions, killing monsters, etc. and once you hit the cap you start focusing on raising your light level by getting better shit.

Story missions and strikes in TTK are fairly good, and of course it has an actual raid instead of the shitty PoE arena. There are actually a couple really great missions that turn what you expect to happen onto its head.

Of course, once you finish all that, it's either back to the grind, or back to playing other shit while you wait for them to announce new content. I can say with certainty that, for all its flaws, I'm pretty much down for whatever expansions they put out this year. Destiny is actively getting better each expansion, and Bungie is trying to improve it all the time, with little events and constant tuning, with admittedly mixed results.

I do kinda just love the fact that Guardians do stuff for the memes. And I do love that story of drunk Guardians falling off the tower
>>
Sparrow racing best thing about destiny
>>
>>45278847
Very little can actually kill guardians in the system, least of all the Cabal. So I can't imagine why they wouldn't have fun with it.

It's kinda sad really. The Cabal and the Fallen have the most to lose/win in the conflict, and they're also the ones least equipped to actually beat the Guardians as it stands. Fucking magic space revenants.

>>45278937
I agree there.

Hive can kinda respawn
Vex have time bullshit
Cabal have numbers

But what do the fallen have? They seem to have nothing and in my opinion they're the most interesting race. Like you said that have the most to loose, but they're risking it all. Plus they look the coolest.
>>
>>45279024
What the Fallen has is a) tech leftover from their own Golden Age which is as good as our own or better and b) basically being people. They're as smart, adaptable, and tenacious as humanity. They've just been burned and are hateful of the light.

I've always found it funny that the only thing that appears to have made humanity different from all the other races the Traveler has abandoned is that humanity made something that was better than themselves.

>as your squad made your way to the ship, the psions were silent
>while they were as well trained as the rest, the psions always chattered between themselves, their speech like their minds often too fast to keep up with
>but now their fear was apparent as they darted in and out from behind their larger squad mates, as if they felt something no one else could

>>
>>45279176
That's what you get for basing your civilization on scavenging the remains of others like a bunch of celestial buzzards following the real predators.
>>
>>45275922
Bitch please, Cabal are easy mode. Play an all Dreg Fallen squad if you want a real challenge. After all, the Hive has their gods, the Vex their gates, and the Cabal have reinforcements. But the Fallen have none of that or anything else.

All they have is dreg's strength: that desperate clinging to life for a few moments more.
>>
>>45279586
Dregs have Pikes so check mate

>suddenly before you could react, they snapped around facing your squad as one
>what you saw froze the blood in your veins
>they… they were unlike anything you had ever seen
>their bodies were made of a black oil, blacker then the tar that flowed through your armor
>but worst of all was their eyes
>they stared, glowing, unblinking, almost looking through you
>never once looking away from you, they raised their weapons and charged
>the Centurion bellowed, commanding the squad to open fire
>you planted your shield at the front, leaning into it as the… things shots began to pelt it
>their undisciplined charge did them no good as they were torn apart by your squad’s firing line
>the sound of their screams would stay with you for the rest of your life
>they sounded like cabal, cabal in agony worse than you could ever imagine
>that was the first time you killed Taken

Read the Variks journals.

The Fallen had the Traveler once. Now they don't even have a planet to call their own or the unity they once enjoyed. Fallen have nothing, which is why they're willing to do so goddamn much just for a CHANCE at something better.
>>
>>45279674
Yup their space pirates who have nothing left to loose
>>
>>45279607
SOME dreg's have pikes, and that'd only if led by someone higher. Besides, Cabal have two varieties of hover tank
>>
>>45279674
They also hate the Traveller, but at least Variks is really sad about all that could have been. His journal wondering what the Fallen did not to deserve becoming Guardians and whatnot is really pretty sad.
>>
>>45279716
Variks is not the only fallen interested in the traveler. The house of kings is implied to be plotting to regain the traveler from the last city
>>
>>45279713
But are they Pikes?
>>
>>45279849
The Interceptor is slower then the pike, but it much more powerful
>>
>>45279845
Don't forget how the whole reason the Devils Baron was breaking into Rasputin was "to crack open that depraved Earth-Servitor so that we may know it's secrets", most likely secrets of the Traveller being what they wanted specifically
>>
>>45279971
Or the secrets of something that can hurt the Traveller.
>>
>>45279971
>>45279991
The Devils and most other fallen's attitude toward the Traveler seems more spiteful or hateful. They just want it destroyed. The Kings however seem to be set apart from this way of thinking with their more secretive nature.
>>
>>45279991
More likely to reclaim it. The last time the Fallen were (nearly) united, it was in the name of pillaging the City and reclaiming the Traveller
>>
>>45279885
Its not a Pike so I don't care
>>
>>45266453
well since destiny is just halo & borderlands as an MMO wouldn't the halo RPG system someone made work?
>>
>>45283031
Not really. Classes don't just shoot shit, they have special abilities and super moves and shit. There's actually a fair bit of customization for what your character can do, like making the Titan's Fist of Havoc either leave an AoE pulse for a while after it goes off, release a shockwave in the direction you're facing when you hit the ground, or flying at a target from a distance instead of just doing a jump arc. That's one super for one of three subclasses for one of three classes.

For all I hear this "Halo Borderlands" comparison all the time, Destiny has all of jack shit to do with Borderlands unless you count "Loot occasionally drops" and "you level up" as being like borderlands. The classes/subclasses have far more depth and the loot drops, while sometimes infuriating, are not procedurally generated appearance wise, instead being a base weapon with a set stat table and a grab bag of semi-randomly selected gun-perks, like reloading faster with an empty magazine or immediately after a headshot kill.

Destiny's base game is actually very enjoyable, and even the loot system has improved. The only serious flaw remaining is the measures Destiny employs to slow down your progression to artificially extend play time. Putting a hard cap on the amount of gear-purchasing currency you can own, as well as making it so you can only earn so much a day, etc. Forcing your to play dailies, weeklies, and other such "play for 15 minutes, come back tomorrow" bullshit to make sure you keep playing over months.

>Fallen are a culture based entirely around theft and are motivated to attack humans exclusively out of jealousy
>Cabal are generic conquerors that don't have much in the way of lore on why they do it, or if they're benevolent in any way.

Yeah, neither are particularly sympathetic.

I don't know why Guardians are written to be such shitheads, though, but it's been a thing since those live-action trailers, where they all acted like obnoxious 14-year-olds. I guess they want to reach their intended audience?
>>
>>45284016
They're sympathetic when you learn why the Fallen are all dickass thieves and that the Cabal are all war weary and just want to go home (and also might be running from something)

Hell, even the goddamn Hive are pretty fucking tragic if you read the Books of Sorrow
