Sup, /tg/, I just reread the Baker's Dozen screencap for like, the third time and it's finally got me wondering to how to do put something together similar to that. General idea of the party going through a series of highly thematic enemies.

My current idea was just going to be to see if I can slot it into a campaign I already have going as a large dungeon but might also just break it off into its own thing as a mini-campaign. Looking for ideas, art and general discussion on the topic of battlechefs and food monsters.

Tastes can be classified into different groups.

>Sweet
>Sour
>Salty
>Bitter
>Rich (fatty or "umami")

attribute a stat to each of these.

>Sweet (Charisma)
>Sour (Intelligence)
>Bitter (Agility)
>Salty (Endurance)
>Richness (Strength)

Something along those lines.

Now, you can base monsters off of these foods and give them stats accordingly. Dessert monster is going to have high charisma because she is sweet and the party will have to resist their temptations.

A sour monster, being acidic, is going to be intelligent, alchemical, and magical.

Bitterness usually puts you on edge. Coffee is bitter and it makes you alert and awake. I therefore attribute it to dexterity.

Salt preserves food and makes it endure so I consider salty to be an endurance attribute

Richness (or fat) can be seen as strength and body.

A meat monster for instance would be fat and salty, and therefore have a lot of melee combat strength and could act as a tank.

A character who is sweet and sour like candy could be your typical "magic girl" type character, charismatic and intelligent/magical.

You could then integrate this principle into an alchemical system where you mix flavors to create food which can be used to give the player characters buffs or you could even integrate it into a summoning system where a chef can create their own monsters and customize their stats by using certain ingredients.

Just kind of brainstormed this on the fly, but hopefully you find it useful in one way or another.

I find myself in need of this.

Wait. All knives in right handed holsters and sheathes, holding a fork with mainhand, shield is somehow on right hand. Also he's missing his carving knife for those perfect meat slices from his enemies ass.
>>
>>45047047

Arrange party members by various restaurant positions - frontline fighter is a butcher (cleaver, plus some wear those chainmail aprons), alchemist/potions-based healer is a bartender, diplomancer rogue is the maitre d, et cetera.

After their last restaurant burned down in a goblin invasion, the staff banded together to wander the land looking for a new location with good foot traffic and high-quality local ingredients. Due to the bizarre demands of the head chef they've been looking in dragon caves, the underdark, goblin warrens, even the skeleron-infested Swamps of the Dead.

Because sometimes i like my meals simple, filling, cheap, and quick. Sort of like a one night stand of meals. Now i gotta make some sauteed'd mushrooms, caramelized onions, a nice panfried steak and i'm thinking peppercorn whitesauce to cover it all. some of that is ingredients for a lunch and dinner i gotta replan.
>>
>>45047338

>Now i gotta make some sauteed'd mushrooms, caramelized onions, a nice panfried steak and i'm thinking peppercorn whitesauce to cover it all

That's a heavy breakfast. Why not just whip up a nice spinach omelette?
>>
>>45047352
Cause spinach tastes like shit in all incarnations except spanakopita and i had a big egg heavy dinner last night to burn some out the door eggs. Mushrooms are going soon as well so i might as well do something and i want steak now cause i have no impulse control.

OP here, these are great, thanks, guys.
I can't believe I forgot about the final boss in Splosion Man.
I had kind of an offhand thought that if I rolled with the dungeon idea the whole place would have some rapid metabolism hex on the party, requiring they eat every X number of encounters but granting a passing benefit. Maybe just health after major encounters or bump up the benefits of resting but maybe I'll implement a cooking system and let the hex explain why this or that meal has given a +1 AC and advantage on strength-based saves for the next encounter.

>spinach tastes like shit in all incarnations except spanakopita
Nignog what? Spinach when made properly is great. Have you tried stir frying it with garlic? it's perfect.
Just wondering, what sort of cultural culinary background do you come from?
>>
>>45048988

He's eating a steak for breakfast, so I'm just going to guess somewhere with an unusually high rate of heart disease.
>>
>>45048988
grew up on native american food of my tribe. Lots of grains, berries, and buffalo. I've tried spinach in every form you could imagine cause i actually had a running pool in culinary school to see if someone, anyone, could make a spinach dish that i liked. Spinach and lettuce just taste like grass to me.
>>
>>45049306
Same, but I live in Texas so buffalo isn't exactly common.

I grew up on poultry, beef, mesquite beans, and tons of fruit. Especially Chinese plums.
>>
>>45047047
I've been a bit out of the loop on /tg/. What is the Baker's Dozen screencap?
>>
>>45047335

The thing is you need a way to structure encounters so that there's the "production line" element to a restaurant - people at the "back" of the party doing stuff that is then delivered to the "frontline".

Or maybe flip that - what about "backend" casters gaining power in proportion to the damage front line characters are doing?
>>
>>45052135

For FOH staff you could have busboys as fighters (because strong), waiters as rogues (dex, charisma if they want to get those tips). Not sure how BOH staff would split among casters and long-distance fighters without things becoming much more arbitrary.

OP here
Sorry, took longer making dinner than expected. Which chef knife is ideal for ritual suicide?
>>
>>45058766

Never ever give up faith, anon. It might still happen....If you keep your chopping knives sharp, and your tools clean.

Salvador is the best Chef
>>
>>45059119

Good question. See, ritual suicide with a knife would usually be done by stabbing. Yet the most common use for knives in the kitchen is chopping, mincing, slicing.

You want ritual suicide, you either go for a skewer, or you do it very properly and finely with quick precise chops and slices at the right parts of the body.

Granton edges or carving knives, maybe?
>>
>>45058583

Kaga would be the overlord of the Baker's Dozen. Hannibal would be ruler of the Dark Dozen.

Nah man. Sushi knife all the way. Designed for that nice long single motion slice for proper seppuku and enough of a point to get the first blow going. So sharp you won't even feel it then your sous chef and cleanly chop your head off to end your suffering with a hog cleaver before taking your place as head chef. Anything less is dishonorable.
>>
>>45060659
Thats one thing i really miss about culinary school. Its 5 days a week of delicious cooking for 2 years that almost justified the debt.
>>
>>45059328

You forget fish knives are often made for stabbing and scooping, though if you're going go that route you're gonna have to get the Poissionier's permission to commit suicide.

+5 when dealing with seafood
+2 when dealing with anything else
Knifes actually pretty durable because its fairly thick the clean slice comes from the geometry which is complicated as hell since theres no real flat surfaces the meats touching and the surfaces it does touch are design to delicately push away the cut piece, avoid touching the bulk, all while maintaining as little contact except with the cutting edge as possible. I've used my "cheap" one for various uses, except chopping cause that'd kill me and the edge, and it performs better than my chef knife. I'd use it all the time if getting it back into cutting shape wasn't a god damned chore.
>>
I sure hope this thread gets archived for future reference
>>
What if the pcs were chefs and needed to collect ingredients?

There was an episode of slayers where they had to kill a dragon for a chef to cook.

Make the dream reality anon. Sometimes the only answer for a game you desire is to take it into your own two hands and run it yourself. Speaking from personal experience there.

OP here
I waited all day for someone to mention this. Disappointed to say that even forgiving how anime-cutesy the designs are I couldn't really find any fantastic chef designs from the characters.
>>
>>45069014
You mind posting a link when it's ready? Running a game set in the Megaman X timeline with a few base rules a lot of homebrew for people's gimmick powers, and a lot of hope that this will work, and could always use more potential systems to test this on since it's all a crapshoot.
>>
>>45069177
Yeah. It was fine when I was a kid, but it's kind of banal now.
