Become The Vampire 35

“Come right in!”

Tobias offers you a set of black robes as you walk into the occult club meeting room, and you take them as you step inside. The floor has been cleared completely to make room for a large circle of powder that Bradley is carefully laying out. Symbols and patterns have already been carved, painted or sculpted across the floor in various configurations, and in the center sits an hourglass with the sand removed and one of the caps taken off. Francine is sitting in the corner with a book, reading through it slowly with a strange smile on her face.

“We're about to get started with the ritual itself, and we'll be done before midnight if Bradley's calculations are correct.”

You slip on the robes and smile at Tobias.

“So what's this ritual supposed to be fore, anyway?”

Bradley looks up at you.

“Immortality, in a sense. A new life, without human limitations. The book said that when four people gather and perform this ritual, one person can be imbued with grand power. As the club president and keeper of the tome, my job will be conducting the ritual. Francine will be our test subject for the ritual to see if it works as intended. You and Tobias will be our third and fourth members, to help complete the ritual. Any other questions before we get started?”

>Rules
Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

>Yes. I think I hear my mother calling, can I come back in a bit?

You nod.

“Can I see the ritual? It sounds really cool, and I'd like to see it.”

Francine looks up from her book, watching you. There's something you don't like about her gaze. It's judgmental, for one, but you're also half-expecting her to leap up from her chair and assault you. Bradley stops working on the circle and pulls a book from his robes. It's the same tome as last time, the one that hurts your head to look at.

“Here you go then.”

You nod and brace yourself. You've been having your head messed with a lot over the last few days, but you weather this storm admirably. You turn the pages slowly, looking for the right ritual, until you find a page with the same symbols as the ones on the floor. From what you can decipher, based on your limited but superior knowledge of real magic, a smidgen of Latin and the pictures on the page, the ritual can't affect humans. In fact, it isn't meant to. It's made to restore the powers of creatures bound to human form, breaking their shackles and restoring them to their full glory.

“So? What do you think? Pretty incredible, isn't it?”

Bradley looks incredibly pleased with himself.

“If we can perform this ritual correctly, we'll all become beyond human by the winter break.”

You pass the book back to him and smile before looking over at Francine. Her gaze has become a glare.

“You're right. It's amazing. I can't make sense of it, but I'm pretty envious of Francine right now.”

That seems to satisfy her, and she goes back to her book.

>Get out. Now. Before Francine becomes... whatever she really is.

“Friend, buddy, pal... I just had an incredible idea.”

Tobias grins at you.

“If it's to use my new, incredible powers to woo Professor Wolfe, I've already considered it. But I think Bradley deserves next pick of powers since he's the club president.”

You shake your head.

“No, that's not my incredible idea. See, what I was thinking, and hear me out, but... Run for it!”

You grab Tobias by the arm and yank him towards the door, pulling him along and out to the hallway. Francine leaps to her feet, chasing after you.

“Get back here! You will not fuck this up for me!”

Tobias runs with you, looking confused but going along with your plan.

“What are we doing? Why are we running? Oliver, why is Francine chasing us?”

“Francine isn't human, she's some kind of monster, and the ritual is to set her true power free.”

Tobias grins.

“Cool! Oliver, that's awesome!”

You shake your head.

“I know Bradley is destined to die this week. Tonight, in fact. That ritual, or Francine, is going to kill him.”

Tobias' eyes go wide and he stops suddenly, turning around.

“Francine, you're gonna kill Bradley? How could you!?”

He balls his hands into fists.

“He loves you, you... you monster!”

Francine skids to a halt.

“I love him too, you jackass! I'm not gonna kill anyone, I just want my real body back! Now hurry back, before we run out of time! If we don't do this now I won't get another chance for five years!”

Tobias stands there, looking back and forth between you and Francine, torn.

>Let's go back then, if you think we can trust her.

>The ritual is designed to release something from its shackles that has been bound to human form. It has NO effect on natural humans. Bradley is seriously, thoroughly on the deep end of Eldritch Magic corruption. The entire occult club is a front for a magical Cult. MAYBE she'll turn you into some eldritch abomination so you can be immortal, but honestly is that what you want?
>>
>>44975111
I'm curious too actually. She didnt call him a fool for loving her
>>
>>44975027
Knowing how magic works, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the magic requires one to sacrifice one they love to function, so she could be at once telling the truth and planning to kill Bradley, if she wants her body back more than she wants love.

“Don't risk your life for this, Tobias. They didn't tell you upfront about any of this, who's to say she's being honest now?”

Tobias hesitates for a moment before turning to you.

“I have to try. They're my friends. Even if it all goes wrong...”

He smiles sheepishly at you.

“I have to at least try for them, right?”

He turns and starts to walk towards Francine, who sighs and turns, walking with him towards the occult club.

“Maybe we can make it work with three people... I mean, it's never been done like that before, but we could be the first.”

Tobias grins.

“Sounds exciting.”

Maybe. Use your judgement on things like that. We've sorta established who Oliver is as a person now, so if there's a write in that seems solid or fits, give us a choice between the winning vote and the write in, or just include it? “So Francine, what exactly are you?”

She looks over her shoulder at you.

“Beautiful, dangerous and beyond human understanding. I don't intend to harm anyone once the spell is complete though. I've learned my lesson. I was exiled and trapped in human form because I was a violent criminal, but... I've lived five lifetimes like this, and I've finally found something I prefer to senseless acts of violence. I just want to be able to enjoy my time with Bradley in my real body. If you want to know what I am, then help us.”

You follow them back to the occult club room and find Bradley in the middle of reading through the ritual, chanting under his breath. You can feel the magic in the air as he mumbles and mispronounces some of the words. It's like the spell is ripping itself apart around you. You grab the book from him right as the energy is about to reach its apex, and Bradley glares at you.

“Hey! I was warming up for the ritual! What are you doing?”

You sigh softly.

“You were going to turn yourself into mincemeat if you kept that up.”

Francine runs over to him and smacks him upside the head.

“I told you not to jump the gun!”

Bradley huffs.

“I just wanted to make sure it was perfect, excuse me for wanting to be sure that you weren't going to wind up with an extra head or something!”

You skim through the ritual briefly. After reading your blood magic spells over a few times, you could probably pull this off. At the very least there's no way you could do it worse than Bradley.

You smile at Bradley and Francine.

“I think I can pull this off.”

Bradley looks at you for a moment, confused.

“What?”

You point to the spell.

“I could cast this. You were about to rip yourself to shreds, but I could cast this and then you wouldn't be a pile of blood and bones by the end.”

Bradley glares at you.

“I need to do this myself, I have to be the one who-”

Francine cuts him off with a kiss.

“He's right. You were about to decapitate yourself. And as hot as that would have made me, I like having you alive and intact more than I like my petty pleasures. Let him cast the spell.”

Tobias stares at you, grinning from ear to ear.

“Oliver, you're pretty slick. You're some kind of secret wizard. Alright, how do we do this?”

You start dictating from the book the various steps for the ritual, going over them in detail to be sure everyone knows what to do and the order to complete the actions in. When everyone is in place you begin the chant, casting the spell piece by piece. Symbols are carved into the floor, dust scattered, and Francine steps into the center of the circle as the powder Bradley laid out begins to glow and drift towards her.

As you complete the first portion of the spell the powder starts to cover Francine, surrounding her and building up in layers to form a sort of cocoon, and you can hear faint screaming from inside as you continue. Bradley looks horrified as the cocoon suddenly compresses into a sphere, blood leaking out of it onto the floor, but he stands in place to finish the spell. As you reach the last few lines the cocoon expands once more, and it begins to crack. You finish the final word and throw the book at the cocoon, which shatters.
>>

>being this wrong.

It's okay anon. Some people just have mediocre taste.
>>
The figure that stands before you is some strange mix of human and something completely other. The form is human-like, but the skin is black as coal and the eyes seem more like portals to some other, dark place than real eyes. Francine, or whatever Francine is now, turns towards Bradley slowly.

“There's something that I need you to know, Bradley. Something truly important, the most vital thing in the world.”

Bradley walks towards her with a smile.

“What is it? Tell me, my sweet, I'm here, I'm listening.”

Francine reaches for him, a hand moving to his chest, and Bradley's skin begins to turn black as he starts screaming, trying to tear himself away from her hand but unable to pull away.

“I lied. I love you too much to ever part from you. So I'll keep your soul within me for all time, right beside my own.”

You turn to Tobias, who is staring in horror as Bradley's body turns into a withered husk.

“Toby? Run and get some help, would you? The school nurse, probably. Also maybe some of the security staff?”

He nods numbly and runs off as Francine turns towards you.

“You've been a big help in regaining my true body. For that, I thank you. I'd like to present you with a boon before I leave to return home.”

She smiles at you, an expression that chills you to the core. You try to look away from her eyes, but it's impossible. You can see Bradley behind them, pounding at some invisible barrier as he's dragged into the dark.

“Name it and you will receive it. It is my duty to grant wishes to those who unlock chains and shatter prisons.”

You hesitate for a moment. Any boon from her could come with all kinds of hidden strings, and you don't want to take that risk.

“Go back where you belong and stay there. Don't cause any trouble. That's all I ask.”

She laughs, smirking at you.

“Cute. I was leaving anyway. But for your help, here's a little something for the trouble you went to.”

She brings her hands together and forms a sphere of energy about the size of a bottle cap, which hovers there as she pulls her hands away.

“Swallow that and you'll gain the ability to divide yourself into two bodies. Of course, you can't always trust yourself, can you?”

She laughs and walks into the wall, vanishing. The orb falls and lands on the floor with a dull thud as it turns the same color as her skin, and whatever force was keeping you upright gives out. You land on your ass and sit there, panting quietly. Tobias runs back into the room.

“I ran off and realized I was abandoning you and came back! Where is she?”

He looks around for a moment before staring at the orb.

“Did you beat her?”

He makes a grab for it.

“Is this her?”

>Don't touch that, it's mine.
>Yep. To finish her off, someone needs to swallow her.
>No, it's a gift from her, one that I don't trust

You pick up the orb and take off your robes.

“No, it's a gift from her, a reward for helping with the ritual. I don't trust it. I think we should hand it over to someone who can get rid of it.”

Tobias nods slightly.

“I see... Well... I mean, I'll get rid of it for you if you like. You look like you're stressing out about this, and... it'll give me closure, I think. They were both my friends, and they both just... left. Bradley is dead, Francine is a monster and she's never coming back... I... didn't even say goodbye to either of them.”

You hesitate for a moment. You don't know what this thing does, or if it'll try to make him eat it, but you don't have much time for arguing before midnight arrives and you have to start your ritual with Tellarie.

>Take it and do with it as you please.

You pocket the orb.

“It's potentially very dangerous. If we can make sure it's safe then you can keep it to remember them by, but I don't want you getting hurt. I've got a spell I need to cast in a moment though If you like, you can stick around and see some more magic.”

Tobias immediately sits down at the edge of the room, nodding a bit.

“I... I'd like that. That was the first spell I've ever seen. Hopefully this one will go better...”

You slip your blood magic tome from your bag and nod a bit.

“It's a ritual to summon a devil. I've made a pact with them to get power, and I've upheld my end of the bargain. Now they need to do the same. It's going to be a bit bloody, so I hope you'll bear with me. My life won't be in danger, I promise.”

Tobias gulps.

“R-Right. No worries here then.”

You take out a knife and cut your palm slightly. Your phone beeps, one minute to midnight, and your tome opens to the ritual page. You let your blood flow onto the ground, and it starts to form the summoning circle, along with several rings of symbols inside it and several more outside. You can tell it's about to begin, the spell is just waiting for you to will yourself to cast it.

You take a deep breath.

“Last word of advice, don't agree to a single deal. Devils are tricky, and they always make things sound better than they actually are.”

Tobias nods a bit.

“R-Right. No problem.”

He gives you a shaky thumbs up, and you smirk, before laughing heartily, getting yourself well and truly worked up. Your villain laugh could do with some work, but it helps you work the stress out of your system and get into the right mood for the spell. You wave your hand through the air dramatically, and cast the spell, letting the words flow. Tobias stares in a mix of awe and terror as the runes glow and lift off the ground, flowing into a single point in the center of the circle.

As the symbols meet they form a black circle, and Tellarie emerges from it in their full glory, their true form, except this time they're clad in silvery armor. Their female half is covered in practical armor that does little to flaunt their bust, while their male half is adorned with silver chain mail cut in a revealing manner that almost, but not quite, takes all masculinity out of the equation. Tellarie smiles at you.

“What do you think of the new look? Isn't it lovely? I look like a proper devil now, with armor and authority and minions galore. And it's all thanks to you. I've never felt this giddy in all my life. I knew from the start you were a worthwhile investment, and now it's time to follow through with our deal. I just know that we'll be best friends, you and I. So, let us begin...”

Tellarie pulls up their sleeves and claws at their own wrists, blood flowing freely from them.

“Ready when you are, boy-o.”

>Let's get this show on the road. Hit me.
>Actually, I wanted to ask about what you got out of our deal, exactly.
>Give me a moment, I want to try my evil laugh again first
