You are an immortal, one of the stars chosen few.
youve come to the big (oddly animated) city with your new friend jess, and already seem to have met the criminal element.

donny is very charismatic, much in the same way a well cleaned gun is.

the path from the club to a restauraunt was a short one. your now seated inside a nicely furnished japanese restaurant.

"so anyway, cliff." he says, getting comfortable. "your a smart man, anyone can see that. i have some work, see, that requires brain and brawn in conjunction, and my current goons are too specialized. what do you say? will you help me out?"
>>
>>44960155
Depends on what kind of work.
>>
>>44960358
"its nothing much, just a couple of deadbeats who owe me money. id usually just send the goon squad, but they've got some... features that make this tough. one of them may or may not be a giant snake. depends what time you engage her. all you need to do is find them, kill them, and bring me their star oil."
>>
>>44960469
I'll look into it. Where can I find these deadbeats.
(I don't trust this guy at all, but no sense getting hostile right off the bat.)
>>
>>44961183
"lessee. the first one lives out in the cities scrapyard, the second ones squatting in the sewers, and the third one lives in the river somewhere. you seem tough enough. they shouldent give you much trouble."
>>
>>44961183
Are we still drunk?
>>
>>44961484
you're a little buzzed, but you've mostly sobered up.
>>
>>44961555
The sewers sound like a nice place. Let's start there.
>>
>>44961555
"ill help you out. sewers sound like a nice enough place to start." you rumble, standing up.

"stay safe out there. their the ones who are supposed to be doing the dying. just remind them of that if they forget."

wandering out into the street, you lift a manhole cover and shove yourself down.

darkness surrounds you.

Damn, nice roll
>>
What if they aren't "enemies". Cliff's a friendly guy, he wouldn't kill people because some stranger told him to.
>>
>>44961881
Your keen vision reveals traces if glowing slime on the walls of these absurdly spacious tunnels.

Following them would in the general direction of the river.

>>44962130
It's slightly sticky to the touch. You wipe it off on your hat.
>>44962208
>>44962123
You follow the slime, pledging to make an attempt at communication with whatever left it.

You have reached a large cistern.
There is a large blob of slime hanging from the ceiling.

(My housemate is making me go grocery shopping. Will be back in around 30 min)
>>

"Hello there. Are you sentient, or a byproduct of this city's waste disposal?"

The blob shifts and swirls, Turning in place. There's a sound, a bit like a hiss of steam coming off of a dumped chemical. You realize there are words behind it.

"Dragon?" It seems to hiss
>>
no, my name is cliff not dragon.
>>
>>44963675
"sorry to dissapoint. im cliff."

the blob stirs once more, and coils a kind of tendril down towards you. the end of the tendril forms into a human torso, complete with head and arms.

it speaks again.

"you dont look like him, but you smell like him. do you... work for the dragon?" it bubbles suspicously
>>
was his name grind? cause i killed and ate him. maybe thats why i smell like him?
>>
>>44964203
"no... dragon is always close... dragon runs city. dragon love taste of stars. dragon always smells like stars, but not... alive ones."

"what do you mean stars?"

"you made of stars, i made of stars, dragon made of stars, pretty snake lady in river made of stars."

the torso has fully formed. she seems like a cute little feral child. made of ooze.
>>
>>44964307
Dragon consumes the power from other immortals then? Do all immortals have this ability? I think I did the same to grind.
>>
is this about that star oil he was going on about last time? also lord grind was running the city, and your dragon was running the city, so lord grind has to be the dragon you're talking about. i killed him.
>>
>>44964469
Different city tho
He's talking about Draco
>>
>>44964469
(i think i fucked up my storytelling. the current city is way farther east then grinds was. your currently in dracopolis.)

>>44964450
>>44964469
"i know about stars... do you want to know? i can show you."
>>
>>44964558
sure
>>
>>44964603
the ooze reaches forward and touches your forehead.

a vision. from the times before immortals.

...the oil that falls from the burning sky, the oil that changes and makes men fly, the oil that glitters and shimmers like gold, the oil that keps men from getting too old... the stuff of the stars...
you snap back to reality. your stony body feels like it is on fire.

obviously, "stars" are just star oil, the blood of immortals.

"dragon eats stars." states the ooze, matter-of-factly.
>>
>>44964802
Then maybe we should eat dragon.
>>
>>44964902
Yes we shall consume all the eaters and bring some civility and fine hats to this world.
>>
>>44964902
"Dragon has eaten many more stars than you. He would eat you like I eat crunchy crunchy mouse!" The ooze bites at the air.
"Snake lady has eat more than you. You should go see her!"
>>
>>44964992
Is she a nice snake lady?
>>
ok lets go see her.
>>
>>44965199
>>44965149
"She is nice to me. Don't know if will be all nice to you."

"Well, thanks for your help I guess."

"No problem." Giggled the ooze, winding back up to the ceiling. "River is that way."

You follow her instruction and arrive at a sewer outflow pipe that dumps directly into the river. What a lovely city. Upstream, you can hear singing.
>>
Rolled 11 (1d20)

>>44965399
Sing back I'm sure we're a lovely baritone.
>>
>>44965586
Yeah, you do alright.
As you navigate the rickety wooden scaffolding and statuary footholds that don't matter because this isn't a video game, you sing along with the voice upstream.

Eventually, you reach a point under a bridge. There is a woman here, with green hair.

"That was some mighty fine singin. May I get the gentlemans name?"
>>
>>44965673
Doff your hat
I'm Cliff and your name madame?
Attempt to kiss hand
>>
>>44965786
you doff your hat.
"the names cliff. may i have the pleasure of knowing yours?"

"im medusa. please, get any puns relating to "getting stoned", getting "rock hard", or anything like that out of your system now.
why have you come down by the river to talk to an old immortal like me?"

"you look quite youthful."

"i was one of the first. i can barely remember being human anymore. i was also one of the few who dint immediately go to war with all the others, desperately carving out territory in a bid to be the biggest, baddest immortal there was."
>>
>>44965913
Why do they all do that and what do you do now?
>>
>>44965963
"why? The stars chose a certain kind of person. there are few immortals who wont try and kill you if you know who they were before the change. my guess is that they were insecure, powerless, rejected. as i said, many look upon their human selves with disdain."

"what do you do now?"

"i failed at making peace, so now i sit here and watch the river go by."
>>
>>44966305
Didn't we get sent here to try and kill her? I say she's nicer then that guy let's make her a hat.

The produced hat is... Lacking.

"I was sent here to kill you, but it doesn't seem right. Here, it was supposed to be a hat..."

She accepts it, turning it over in her hands.
"That's the nicest thing anyone's done for me in a long time. It was Donny wasn't it?"

"Yes."

"He hates me more than anything. I know who he was."
>>
>>44967481
Who was he and does he need smashing?
>>
>>44967481
Maybe we should investigate the third deadbeat, see if they are as friendly as these two. Then head up and punch Draco's head off.
>>
>>44967481
Who was he?
>>
>>44968349
>>44967845
"he was the perfect example of a post immortal human. powerless, fearful, yet strangely cruel inside his mind. his name was Melvin. have you been inside that nightclub of his? if you move certain things around just right, it looks like a temple."

>>44968015
"thank you for your time. i have to head off now. ill try to keep in touch."

"keep up your guard, cliff. id be very sad if anything were to happen to you."

you wave and ascend a ladder back to the bridge. the scrapyard is on the outskirts of town nearby.

arriving, you find a jungle of scrapmetal. the place is a maze.
quite literally infact. the piles of junk seem arranged.
>>
>>44968569
dammit i meant pre immortal
>>
Rolled 10 (1d20)

navigate the maze?
>>
>>44969040
you barely push through, although there were one or two moments where you almost got lost. eventually, you push out into the end of the observable maze.

there is a robot here. it appears to be building more maze.
>>
call out a greeting and compliment his maze
>>
>>44969110

>>
>>44969193

the robot stands straight up and whirls around.

"immortal entity detected. neutrilization commencing."

the robot is 20 ft tall, and badly dinged up. a lot of it is scrap. on its white chestplate, you can see a faded image of a flag with stripes.

the robot lunges forward.

It straightens bank up.
"Greetings cosmoterrorist, the machine before you is none other than the 'defender of democracy'! Your kind have been working to destroy stable human life, but if you tuck your head between your legs and praise America, I can at least promise the robot will make it quick."

You smack the fist, sending it flying into a pile of metal. The robot stares at the pile for a second before charging again.

This time, you instinctively dodge, but the robot whirls it's torso around and sends you flying.

You are Ina pile of garbage. There is a large metal tube here, with "heavy ordinance" written on it.

>>
Rolled 18 (1d20)

assimilate black box
>>
>>44971451

You jam the box into your chest cavity.

Nearly 100 years of memories are added to your knowledge. Most of the early stuff is simply footage of land and testing ranges, but it quickly becomes pitched battles with immortals. The later, more recent stuff is wandering the wasteland, killing the occasional weak immortal. The robot was building maze after a fight with Donny that crippled it. The robot was carrying around 5 immortals worth of star oil. Eventually, you see yourself.

Viewing years worth of memories in an instant is more than a little taxing.
