The Marines Malevolent fucking endorsed a Chaos attack on an Imperial World, and even have troops infected with the Obliterator Virus. The Marines Malevolent aren't the best Chapter, they're the worst Chapter. If the Administratum knew of half the shit they've done, they'd get immediately excommunicated.

Somebody drop the Minotaurs on those cunts already.

>Captain Vineyar of the Marines Malevolent and Chapter Master Tu'Shan of the Salamanders were involved in a tense altercation in the aftermath of this incident. Some sources imply that one participant went so far as to strike the other without a formal duel of honour having been called - an unusual breach of etiquette in the brotherly ethos of the Adeptus Astartes - but this is unconfirmed.

why are the salamanders such petty children that they start a slap fight with a brother astartes over hurt feelings? why cant they be honorable and respectful like the marines malevolent? a chapter master should embody the virtues of space marines and the emperor, not resort to school yard antics while operating in the line of duty

i hope the inquisition censures the salamanders for this behavior unbecoming of a first founding chapter. its pathetic and embarrassing
>>
>>44944636
Only because they have writer's shields. The Marines Malevolent need to die for being heretics and traitors.
>>
>>44942425
These guys are way too pragmatic in their job.

Even Raptors aren't this pragmatic.

No wonder people think of them as assholes.

One day they'll get sandwiched between the Minotaurs and the Carcharodons. It will not be pretty at all when Moloc and Tyberos will do a double lariat on their Chapter Master.

no its more like they have literally broken no imperial laws. unlike basically every first founding chapter

the iron hands are 10 time the dickheads and cause way more innocent imperial deaths for no good reason then the malevolents

you faggots seem to think they have mountains of heretical actions under their belt or something. all the hate (almost entirely from salamander coal burners) is that during a war, some hostages (not even the majority) died during the attack on the emperors enemies (with 100% of their foes being killed) and they didnt immediately stop their entire war effort to drop to their knees and cry

they are space marines and they did their fucking job. better than most any other chapter without plot armor. their actions actually make sense. when was the last time a chapter went out on a limb to do stupid "noble" shit and actually got burned for it? almost never because plot. lamenters are pretty much the only exception.

i would rather have the malevolents watching my back then the dark angles, blood angles, iron hands, salamanders, space wolves, etc. most chapters are only in it for themselves and ignore laws and do their own thing whenever it suits them
>>

The question isn't which chapter is right.

The question is which chapter is everyone else going to believe? And, more importantly, side with in a fight?

A first founding chapter, or a bunch of assholes who run around wearing seizures for armor?

I would rather have Space Wolves or Salamanders.

The other three you've listed are pretty likely to just blow me up if I'm standing too close to the enemy because they don't give enough of a fuck.

That said, they're literally called the Marines Malevolent. They're intended to be disliked. Trying to make them seem like anything other than assholes is like trying to make the Empire the good guys in Star Wars or 40k. They're not, that's the point of their inclusion in the setting, and you're an autistic faggot for thinking anything else.

Not breaking Imperial laws and not being noticed by the Inquisition does not make you not a traitor or douchebag. Pic related.
>>
>>44946558
I'm not talking about the civilians- nobody gives a fuck about them- they fired on the fucking Adeptus Mechanicus and looted their ship. They condoned Astartes with the obliterator virus and sent them off to attack the Salamanders instead of executing them on the spot for heresy. At the very least they need to be refounded, their leaders executed, and their entire ranks reconstructed all under the eye of the Ordo Hereticus.
>>
The issue isn't about them willing make civilian sacrifices to complete objective - all chapters do that routinely - it's about flaunting and being massive faggots about it.
SMs are designed to protect the imperium, being useful tools doesn't make them superhuman. Yes, they're stronger and faster, but an overgrown autistic virgin who needs hormonal adjustments until the end of good life is hardly superior to actual humans since the former usefulness is only limited to the at of war.
Hell, I'd extract spire nobility of administratum adepts over a company of marines - someone need to run the imperium and make people to man the factories.

i understand the name but their actions are pretty much in line with spetnaz

did you forget that chapters like the iron hands are literally described as HATING (fully biological)humans and consider them nothing but weaklings that need to be killed?

the m&ms are described as being very pragmatic (another stereotype of russians) not as hating humans and wanting to drink their blood and shit. blood angles successors sacrifice unwilling humans to drink their blood or to eat them and youre giving the malevolents shit after saving thousands of them?

>>

>>
>>44947625
The name, and the fact that somehow they've managed to get all the way into the Ultramarines inner circle. That's just kinda sketchy for any regiment no matter the name.
>>
One of them killed a Black Templar and took his armor in front of his brothers. It was suppose to be a honor duel, not killing your cousin and taking his clothes.

To be honest I see the Dark Angels showing more restraint than the Wolves would, so the Dangle would have to be worked up more I guess. When Dangles murder you, it's because you've seen a Fallen or know about one. Or pic related got too excited.

Sure, I can get behind that. They are pragmatic to the extreme, to the point where they feel the whole galaxy want's to their head, other Imperials included.
When you get shit on by everyone, you tend to become bitter. That's what happened to the MM.

However, I sure as hell would not like to have mne of them guarding my back, because I know that he will run away and leave me to die when the tide turns.

stories like the dark angles just ignoring and retreating from engagements to go do fallen hunting shit and leaving the imperials to die

blood angles successors sacrificing people to drink their blood and eat them

star phantoms blowing anything up that gets in their line of fire

salamanders and vulkan intentionally hunted down and burned an entire planet of humans that they knew to be innocent because they didnt want to listen to their shit

iron hands

space wolves and blood angles rage out and kill random people

space sharks, minotaurs, sons of medusa, etc etc etc

anyway i actually think most first founding chapters wouldnt bother with it, not that most of them would kill the prisoners. just that they would be angry that they were even asked and fly off and let them all get raped to death by orks. there are not many stories of first founding chapters doing rescue mission just to save a few normal humans. its almost silly to think about

Are you retarded or just goal post shifting? Nobody gives a shit about civilians. The Marines Malevolent attacked the Adeptus Mechanicus and stole RELICS. They then condoned the use of fucking OBLITERATORS AND SENT THEM TO ATTACK AN IMPERIAL WORLD.

The Marines Malevolent are full heretics/traitors for these actions. The civilian killing doesn't mean shit, the fact that they've actually attacked the Imperium and didn't execute Marines infected with the Obliterator Virus (and went so far to use them as weapons in politicking) that damns them.

To: General Vladimer Kurov, Commander Imperial Forces, Armageddon.

From: Colonel Destrier Celestine, Armageddon Command Guard

Date: 998.M41

Subject: Conduct unbecoming, Marines Malevolent

Thought for the day: Let the fire of battle cleanse your soul

General Kurov,
I must bring to your attention an action that took place at 06:44 (local time) in the environs surrounding Hive Hades. An incident involving the Marines Malevolent Chapter of Space Marines has brought to light some disturbing behavioural patterns within their ranks that I feel merits your most detailed attention.

Striking from the Diablo Mountains, a force of Orks (estimated strength: 5,000+ with vehicle and dreadnought support) poured down Devil's Ridge and stormed the blockhouses at the head of the Eumenidies river bridge. The Orks slaughtered the defenders here and swept across the bridge into Emperor's Deliverance refugee camp. As you are no doubt aware, this camp currently houses over 12,000 refugees from the destroyed hive and nearly 1,000 members of the Adeptus Ministorum.
>>
>>44955723
I was therefore horrified when the Whirlwind anti-personnel tanks of the Marines Malevolent opened fire on the Orks while they were still within the camp's perimeter. High explosive rockets turned the refugee camp into a storm of shrapnel and when we launched our counter-attack, I saw horrendous collateral damage amongst the camp's population. While the Orks were penned within the camp, the Marines Malevolent were able to isolate areas of resistance and destroy each one in turn. The battle lasted for another six hours and the Orks were eventually destroyed utterly.
>>
>>44955736
At the battle's conclusion I confronted the leader of the Space Marines, Captain Vinyard, and appraised him of my disapproval regarding his battle stratagems. Not only did the captain threaten my life, but he also stated that those who had died in the camp were expendable and acceptable losses. He went on to say that those who would not fight against the Orks and would cower in a camp had no right to live because their freedom was bought with another's blood. Captain Vinyard then expounded fully (and at some length) on his belief in the ultimate supremacy of humanity in war and his Chapter's tenets of belief. Namely that there is no such thing as innocence, merely degrees of guilt. I fully believe that the Marines Malevolent hold Imperial citizens in contempt and perceive themselves to be self-evidently superior to their fellow man. While biologically this may indeed be the case, I feel it is a worrying psychological trait that has not only brought about the deaths of nearly four thousand refugees and members of the Adeptus Ministorum, but shows a worryingly egotistical streak in the command structure of the Marines Malevolent.

I look forward to your earliest reply.

Colonel Destrier Celestine

they did their job. no one else had any better ideas. everyone was just sitting on their hands waiting for the problem to solve itself. actually scratch that, other imperial forces flat out refused to help in the rescue operation so the M&Ms had to do it alone

this is actually a really good point

Yes that's true, its hard to tell if that got cited since the reporter was clearly biased. I think the skittle Marines problem is they should not be allowed to talk to people. Also killing other Marines and taking their shit seems like a bad idea.

don't try to act smug, cockhugger. It's about their attitude to their mission.
They have exactly kind of approach as CSMs do - wreck shit in the most spectacular way possible, with little care about the reasons behind their actions.
If you like, you can compare them to Lorgar who only cared about worship and did not care who to worship.
MM are the same in the regards they want to wage war, caring little about their mission which is being defenders of humanity. Not humans, but the humanity and the imperium. Feels have nothing to do with it, it's all about mindset.
As said, all loyalists sacrifice imperial citizens in their tens of thousands when it benefits the larger part of the mission, but MM are the only ones who are openly arrogant about it and see other humans are trash, whereas they are themselves nothing more but tools so that humanity is shielded from its enemies.
This kind of shit led Astral Claws to become what they are now.
But sure, be an edgy smugwannabe cunt, stupid pathetic whelp.

>>44955792
This.

It's a wonder why this always needs to be saidabout this incident.

Civilians are worth nothing in the Imperium. 5k orks is a lot, even for SM. Every brother lost is a huge loss. Who gives a shit about civilians when your bolter is litteraly worth more than the average hive planet.
>>
>>44955792

Oh, it's true.

But it's also a case of 'Worrying disregard for the people they are supposed to be protecting'.

It's sorta 'They stopped the orks but also destroyed the people they were there to stop the orks killing'. There isn't really a good answer about it as this is much more grey than say...the Flesh Tearers running out of enemies and killing the imperial guard allies.

>litteraly worth more than the average hive planet.
That's so far from the truth you're in danger of going all the way across the chart of wrong till you're actually right. Hive Worlds are some of the most precious resources in the Imperium, entire Chapters would be worth one. Planets are of the ultimate value for the Imperium.
>>
>>44956671
I list admit I laughed about the chart.

But I do remember reading something about an Imperial Governor getting his hand on a space marine weapon is :
A) A blasphemy
B) Still EXTREMELY expensive and only the most wealthy of governors would be able to get one from the black market

Man power is the one thing the Imperium doesn't lack. On the top of mind, the Crimson Castellans let one of their recruiting hive worlds after fighting the Tyranids for it because, well shit, there's always another one nearby.
I'd say by far the most precious worlds are Forgeworlds.
>>
>>44956720
Hive Worlds aren't just recruiting. They're massive resource pools and trade because of just how large the population is. The only thing worth more than a Hive World to the Imperium is a Forge World. Bolters are rare- but there are FAAAR more bolters in existence than there are Hive Worlds (tens of thousands to countless millions).
>>
>>44956793
Also I don't really count Forge Worlds because technically speaking the Adeptus Mechanicus is not the Imperium of Man.
>>
>>44951895
There's a Deathwatch short story that looks at it kind of interestingly. You know how the Angels of Vengeance are a chapter so stubborn, they'll win a battle to lose a war? The Marines Malevolent are like that with pragmatism. A wounded marine should be left behind rather than putting everyone else at risk. They'd rather use Whirlwinds to eleminate Orks and hostages rather than put their marines, and their fighting strength, at risk - and they are a very poor chapter, to the point where they argue with Salamanders over some old armor.
>>
>>44948587

Why do nerds get so invested in defending a made up chapter? Doesn't the fluff become more interesting if the DA have no qualms about killing loyalist marines to protect their secret?

It's fairly clearly stated that the Dark Angels left the system before the Black Templars did, and the Black Templars never made contact after they tried to make their own jump.

It's actually fucking hilarious - the one time that the Dark Angels don't really do something wrong, and the Black Templars are hating them for the perceived foul play. I love the horrible irony of it.

>>44956720
Except, no about the Space Marine weapon thing. Bolters are common enough that underhive gangs sometimes make use of them. They're expensive as far as Imperial weapons go, and they need continuous expensive ammunition, but ultimately they're really pretty standard.
>>
>>44955792
That is true, but the human commander of a bunch of humans isn't going to be able to look at the large picture like that. Especially since those refugees could have been potential conscripts or something.

But the most worrying thing is that they literally did not care about any losses, even though at least in theory their job is to protect the Imperium and its citizens (the former, its equipment, buildings, and leaders before the later). Their lack of humility or restraint could lead to Chaos taint.
>>
>>44956867
Human bolters are different from Astartes bolters.
>>
>>44956951
No they aren't. The Godwyn is, yes, the larger of the patterns used by the Imperium and is generally exclusive to Space Marines. That's simply a matter of useability. If a Inquisitor, Guardsman, or Sororitas is capable of firing one there's no reason they wouldn't.

Sargent Harker shoulders a standard heavy bolter, the same as Devastators, like a rifle.
>>
>>44956991
Calibers vary widely between boltguns, as do quality of machine spirits and firepower. Commissars for example typically use lighter caliber boltguns so their shoulder doesn't come off from all the executions.
>>
>>44956825
Is it Machine Spirit? Where they deag the wounded sargeant while being attacked by Kroots?

I thought it was very good to expose, even so briefly, how interesting the MM can be.
>>
>>44956854
Why yes, because the BT never left the system. The reason they never made contact is that they were blown to hell and back man.
>>
>>44957020
>Calibers vary widely between boltguns
>Commissars for example typically use lighter caliber boltguns

[citation fucking needed]

I'm so tired of this "durr, hu-man calrbur bolts, hurr" shit that keeps getting passed around without anyone ever giving any source or evidence.
>>
>>44957100
Not this guy.

I'll agree that, normally, all bolters of the same class have the same caliber.
For example assault marines can use the ammo of their pistols in a proper bolter.

However, SM weapons are a much better quality, so that's why, to get back ln the subject, a SM weapon is worth an astronomical sum of money, and therefore, much, much more than a human.

Remember, a lasgun is more expensive than a man in the Imperium.
>>
>>44957100

Basically the entirety of Deathwatch.

>Man’s Reach exceeds his Grasp
>Grave religious taboos exist throughout most of the Imperium against daring to touch weapons meant for the hands of the Emperor’s Angels of Death. Astartes weapons react violently to the grip of the unworthy, and men bearing terrible burn scars are living proof of a flamer’s outrage in the hands of an ignoble master. Still, there are invariably those bold and foolish enough to try taming the machine spirits of Astartes weapons. Obtaining an Astartes weapon should require considerable effort on a character’s part and never simply be the result of an Acquisition or Influence roll. Astartes Ranged weapons count as one Class heavier to anyone lacking in Space Marine physiology. For example a Pistol is a Basic weapon; a Basic weapon is Heavy, and so on. Furthermore, Astartes weapons impose a –30 penalty to all Tests made with them by presumptuous mortals due to improper scale, weight, and/or recoil— even in power armour. The GM may also choose to impose other problems from the rebellious machine spirit based on the nature of a weapon (a plasma weapon may require Toughness Tests from routine heat venting; a power weapon may run the risk of feedback, etc). Space Marines may use weapons scaled for normal humans without penalty if they choose, although the GM may wish to require that the Space Marine take an extra action or two to remove parts that get in the way (such as the trigger guard or the stock!).
>>
>>44957068
Or they just got lost in the Warp. That happens sometimes. Maybe the Fallen left a bomb. As the Deathwing suggests, maybe there were Tyranids.

Normally, I'd agree with you, but it says outright that they left the system the moment they got the Fallen, and before the Black Templars reached their jump-point.
>>
>>44948157
White Scars :^)
>>
>>44957159
>Most bolter models have their roots with the Space Marines, despite smaller, inferior adaptations treasured by Imperial officers and nobles.

>Angelus Bolt Carbine
>Class: Basic (Bolt)
>The fanes of Gunmetal, among their most important duties, hold an oath-bond to manufacture the casing and primary propulsion charges for Astartes calibre bolt shells. Production of the Astartes bolts is carefully controlled and monitored, and once made, each case is stamped with the aquila and its maker’s mark before being passed on to the Adepts of the Machine God. Despite the security and precautions inherent in this sacred duty, it is said a few of these shells never see the aquila stamp. These so called “blind shells” are both utterly illegal and highly desirable, but on their own, blind shells are useless without a weapon to fire them.
>Consequently, the Fane of Fykos makes in secret a weapon known as the “Angelus”. Bluntly elegant in shape and crafted from the finest materials, the Angelus’s lacquered stock houses its magazine and unlocks to take three Astartes calibre bolt shells snugly nose to tail. Provided only to their richest and most trustworthy of clients, the exclusivity and terrible killing power of the Angelus is favoured by the wealthiest of bounty hunters and the most accomplished of beast-slayers in the Calixis Sector. Carrying one of these powerful, but highly illegal weapons entails certain risks all of its own.

Beslan had a huge casualty rate because the terrorists were blood crazy Chechens who rigged everyone and everything with bombs. Not to mention some of the hostage's family members took up arms themselves and stormed the building.
