Aaayyyy /tg/
Lets get a civ General rolling

(Thanks to Sleep_drawfag for our new copy pasta for General, AND for these cool cards!)

Previously people wished to suggest more random event cards but it turns out many interested Anons do not have the source for the existing ones. There is an imgur gallery that has all the 45 cards I made and also a small selection of hands to draw from as a fluff picture.

Cards
>http://imgur.com/a/xtYLp#0
Cardback and draw
>http://imgur.com/a/dPcrN#0

>Guidelines for recommending event cards:
- Non-specific - Try to make them open ended and not tied to a specific race/location/other event etc. remember that there is no system behind them they are there as sparks of ideas for CMs. Do not go "You find X amount of gold in random treasure chest."
- Reasonable - They should not change the game significantly to interfere with the CM's work, they should aid the CM's work.
- Copypasta - Before you suggest one please review the already existing ones. While completely avoiding duplication is not possible, as I already have several, but try to keep from straight duplication of existing ones. Like in the future we can have "hunting season" and "the great hunt" or "tornado" and "hurricane" but right now there isn't really any great difference between them.

NOTE: Just to make it clear this isn't for art requests, there is no guarantee that your suggestion will be created. All I can do right now is to note them down and add them to my (pretty long)to do list. Keep it in mind that I might not be able to do draw it at all, either because I lack the skills or because I disagree with the idea. Discussion about suggestion/ideas in the thread

Don't thank me, that was not meant for master posting, like the guidelines of event cards aren't merit anything. Plus there is still content out there that is still missing. Tfw people don't even bother spelling your name out while talking about you. ;_;

Hype, hype, hype!

Remember: Tomorrow, Saturday, at 4pm mountain Canadian standard time!

We've got at least one chicken to memorialize into our small shrine.
An Otyugh egg case in our Aquarium to take care of.

If there is no structure, it can't hold up.
Lets use that chart real quick.
Tikifowl in Mindscape.

What do they eat?
What kind of food do you find in a mindscape?
What kind of housing the Tikifowl have? Do they nest, like Harpies? Do they live underground? Do they even need houses?
What are they good at? What are they bad at?

How about Basphirark?
What do they do they do? How do they function?

No one has any idea, because the chart doesn't tell us.

>What do they eat? What kind of food do you find in a mindscape?

>What kind of housing the Tikifowl have? Do they nest, like Harpies?

They look like birds, so they either live in nests or surreal cuckoo clocks.

>What are they good at?

Telling time. ;)

>How about Basphirark? What do they do they do? How do they function?

It says they are "the light of people who don't have wings in heaven", so I assume they are some kind of beacon for non-angelic souls.

Any good thoughts on how a Were Civ would start out in a Ruin?

1: were's have always been in the ruin, but infighting and lack of leadership has allowed the ruins in which they live to be little more than a no-man's land or a bandit haven.
2: Individuals from various backgrounds, cities and such have all been dumped due to their new found were symptoms.
3: Small group has run away from society to make their own because of judgment or torment.
4: Party or trade caravan is out on a journey when they are bitten, causing them to need to form their own society.
5: Cult in the ruin praying to a god was blessed with lycanthrope. Now they plan on becoming their own civ.

Thoughts? Any good suggestions?

The ruins were once their capital city. Some foul dark magic destroyed this once noble kingdom and turned its inhabitants into mindless monstrosities. It's not really known what exactly happened, that's part of the plot to discover (and avenge). Over the centuries the remaining monsters began to experience a change. The curse waned in strength. They were able to shift back to their original form sometimes, and their mind was once again theirs, and not just filled with primal animalistic instinct. Now they are regrouping and rebuilding, and finding out what happened.

>>44954372
You are still not getting the point here. The picture itself doesn't bother people. What bothers people is that Myrm always reposts it and even posts troll posts praising his own work and when someone says anything critical about it he gets triggered and goes rabid defensive mode claiming everyone else beside him is an uncreative pleb that cannot understand his work that requires higher intellect or something. Which does nothing but fills civ general threads with Skub arguments that nobody likes. But then claims that everyone else it at fault and he is the marty of creativity that get shit flinged on by the dirty uncultured masses. While he did like one attempt at an abstract civ where he did absolutely nothing but write vague short posts and wait for the players to suggest stuff to happen which unfortunately died pretty fast.

Why is this bad?
>random person sees civ thread general
>he is interested
>looks into thread
>sees shitposting, and arguments over things he doesn't even understand/know about
>thinks this community is shit and leaves

This is the problem, filling civ general with pointless arguments helps nobody and it makes us look like retards. Heck at this point I am inclined believe that Myrm (or whoever) that repeatedly does this only does it for shitposting's sake.

>>44954335
There was once a prosperous city high in the mountains that grew rich off their high quality quarries and timber from thick bountiful forests. The city grew powerful and rich and that attracted the attention of a conquering army.

Unable to turn back the invaders fueled by dark magics with forces bolstered by undead or demonic minions the populace turned in desperation to a suddenly arrived prophet. They preached that should the populace agree to the price of their unknown god they would be given power enough to defeat their attackers.

The offer weighed heavy on them as the siege wore on until finally, as the invaders were scaling the walls for one last push, they accepted the bargain.

The moon hung heavy that night, turning a crimson red as the populace were overcome with a newfound strength and power. This change came at a price though, their bodies and minds becoming bestial and inhuman. The populace of the city surged forth, a tide of fanged and furred vengeance that tore the attacking armies to pieces in a night of bloody hunting.

The God of the Hunt was pleased with his new pack. The populace of the city returning to their ruined city, their minds broken and simple. Several generations later their descendants have begun to be born in the forms of their uncorrupted ancestors but with age they unlock the ability to shift into the forms of their monstrous parents.

Now with newfound intelligence they are directed by the God of the Hunt to rebuild their ancient home and stake their claim on the world.
>>
>>44954991
Largely depends on >>44954335 's writing skills. The setting is in essence mystery post-apoc at the beginning.

You knew nothing but hunger and rage, clouded by primal instincts, slowly but surely over the generations, over the years, the fog slowly lifted. Reason has once again claimed a foothold in your mind. Your deformed cursed body reverted back to its original self - for a time. You remember... these ruins.. they echo a story of glory, of tragedy. This was once the center of a noble kingdom. Commerce and works of art, politics and scholarship. You were at the height of the world.. then dragged down screaming, tearing, gnawing.. howling. You shredded your own people and devolved into werebeasts. Was it.. a war? A divine retribution for decadence? Betrayal? You're not sure. But there's a time and place for everything. The journey of a thousand steps begins with the first one, and you must rebuild these ruins, and redeem your people.

You have 200 people, who can transform to werebeasts at will. The countryside and the ruins themselves are still haunted by your cursed, misguided brethren. You must save those you can, and put down those you can't. They will not hesitate to rip your throats. Reclaim your glory, unearth the past, and show those who stand in your way that even a curse can turn to a blessing.

hope that's dealt with.

In other news, firefox has an official 64-bit version now, you don't need to patz about with experimental Nightly.

>>44980423
scale back a bit: these are concepts that you think are interesting. What about them do you find interesting? What is common to them, or otherwise commonly UNCOMMON between them?
>>
>>44980959
>What about them do you find interesting?

They provide an ongoing world that continues indifferently to the inhabitants.
>>
Working on a personal version, but I'm looking for perks for a few races. Haven't added some weaknesses yet, and I'll probably decide to make mandatory adaptability for all races to choose extra perks and disabilities from the list to make things more interesting.

http://pastebin.com/iJ6nEWBF

Got any perk suggestions? Only concrete things. No "fear of heights" or "rape victims". Preferably something general enough that could apply to at least another race. My problem is with Mycenae, Humunculi, Cyclops, Gnomes and maybe Bullywugs and humans.
>>
>>44981165
I think Reptile Folk and Bullywugs should be susceptible to cold.
>>
>>44981033
okay, NOW we can move onto >>44980423

that is, what are ways we can "provide an ongoing world that continues indifferently to the inhabitants."?

You've given some examples, but don't forget to brainstorm some more now that you've defined what it is you're looking for, and look to other media for more ideas.

The next step is to pick one of these examples, and figure out if there's a way to represent it in easy to work with mechanics. For example:

>Events
that's actually rather simple, because of all the event cards that Sleepy_drawfag made for us. Make a table(or wait for someone else to do it) that connects each card name to proper dice values.

Or, if you want some physical goodies, print out the cards and shuffle them yourself.

The point is to balance what will accomplish the goal you placed with what is practical and easy/convenient to actually do. If you narrow things down to a smaller scope, you can ask other anons here about it. Even better if you already have some ideas to bounce off of them.
>>
>>44981239
True I've been toying with that, but it feels a bit off to me somehow that swamp creatures and amphibians that live underwater need heat so much and despise cold.

So, I assume it wouldn't be advisable to run a Civ right at this moment for lack of players?

When would people say is peak time? I know Saturday Night seems to be the absolute peak, but it'd be helpful to know which time-zones most players are in.
>>
>>44984009
About 65-75% of traffic is in the American time zone, like all of 4chan. But Europe time deserves love too you bastard
>>
>>44984018
I am aware. I am a Europe. I fear the possibility of starting a Civ and not having players.

I've been on and off several times today alone. Between am unpopular timezone and having stuff to do, i can't really give an estimate for my hours
>>
Alright. I'm gonna go for a walk and get back in an hour or two. Maybe then people in EST will be waking up, or at the point of being bored in work.

I'd love to run a RP civ, with the players being people within the civilization, like the Machine Civ with the Thought Nodes, or that one Gremlin Civ.
>>
>>44984077
A player council again huh? Largely depends on the race chosen, fellow node
>>
I'm back from my walk. Gonna have a shower and eat then see how many people are here and willing to play.

There's no exception. Amphibians don't suffer from cold. Cold blooded can also mean high resistance to cold.
I suppose they can swim while the sun is shining on them during spring or summer. Anything else will get them killed.
