In MtG, planeswalkers can go through the Blind Eternities since they have a small shard of the Æther in their soul.

A really small subset of powerful entities can world-walk between the worlds because they are powerful enough to tank the magic-quantum-foam-unmaking effect that the Eternities have — amongst these are the non-planeswalker Elder Dragons, Marit Lage, and the black uber-spirit from Kamigawa, "Myojin of Night's Reach" (and possibly the other Myojin, but that is unconfirmed.)

A planeswalker from the older times made a planar barge from a corpse of Chromium, one of the Elder Dragons, after his demise, and used it to ferry troops across worlds.

1. Is it possible to use Darksteel to create a similar plane-moving Æther-worthy vessel? According to a Wizards article, reforging darksteel takes bullying the world into retconning the shape of a particular piece of it, so...
2. There, originally, were a lot more Elder Dragons around than five, they were mostly crippled and their wings and sanity stripped away by Elder Dragon sealing magic during the Elder Dragon Wars. They became the Elder Wurms. Would it be possible to unbind one to ally with it? Kill one and make its corpse your mobile base?
3. Can you make sangrite/etherium from non-Jund dragon blood?
>>
>>44894724

Not sure about the others, but anyone who attempted 2 with any degree of success would have Nicol Bolas on their ass in a heartbeat. He doesn't like having competition.

As for 1, I don't think so because anything that deals with the aether and shit tends to involve exile, and Darksteel is 'only' indestructable. It wouldn't break, it would simply sort of cease to be.

On Zendikar, when it come to exploration, even the sky isn't the limit anymore!

There's more than that many ways to make a vessel that can travel the planes. The Weatherlight, the Predator, and all those portal ships from Phyrexia 1.0 were all made without darksteel or elder dragon corpses. So the answer is probably that you could make a ship with those, but you don't have to.
>>
>>44895002
The Weatherlight was made with a power core made from a whole plane, and I had no idea that Phyrexia had actually portalling ships. Didn't they have a Mass Effect-ish jump gate system? Where can I read more?
>>
>>44894724
Post-Mending? No.
Pre-Mending? Maybe.
>>
>>44895866
Why not? We have walkers killing Eldrazi dead now, so their power (both in-character and narrative) is at an all-time high now.
>>
>>44895940
Or maybe the eldrazi get depowered by the mending (and maybe their imprisonment) too.
It wouldn't be absurd.

>>44895002
The predator couldn't planeswalk and had to use gates or something, if I remember well.
>>
>>44895940
They don't kill the titans using their own power, though. Nissa basically plugs all the leylines she can possibly get into Chandra's bumhole and use her pyromancy to channel the elemental power and rage of an entire plane into (possibly colorless) flames to disintegrate them on a level not reached before, without using a plane as a bomb.

The Gatewatch walkers aren't that mighty, considering Ob kicked their ass without any effort and even Drana could possibly kill one of them if she really tried. Those guys are just crafty as fuck and found a way to turn hedrons and leyline into weapons without destroying the plane.

>>44896403
So finding a way to turn something into a tool to cross the Eternities is more of a feat than that in your opinion?
>>
>>44894933
Maybe that was part of Nicol Bolas's plan all along. Planeswalk the eldrazi titans carcass to New Phyrexia and.... profit?
>>
>>44896479
Basically. They don't have any sort of artificer nor enchanter yet and they aren't experts on aether and the eternities either. Jace with Nissa just found a way to weaponize leylines because Nissa was a professional with those already anyway.

The only one with a tiny bit of artifact knowledge would probably be chandra since her parents were artificers and she most likely learned some basics back then. Building something plane-crossing would require someone like Nahiri or maybe Karn to pull off.

Kiora, though, might be able to do it. She has the unique ability to drag creatures from other planes into existance, which not even Garruk did. That might be due to the bident with her spak combined, but they could nonetheless maybe work from that to figure out a way to allow non-walkers to planeswalk using a vessel of sorts.
>>
>>44896623
>They don't have any sort of artificer nor enchanter yet and they aren't experts on aether and the eternities either.

Well, we do have Tezzeret (and Karn, for that matter.) Neowalkers don't stop at the Gatewatch, anon.

Lore thread?
>>
>>44896657
I guess. I wanted to post it in a lore thread but didn't find one.
>>
>>44894724
I'm not super familiar with the newer cards, but what is the purpose of that one? I assume it combos with something else.
>>
>>44896623
Kiora can't actually pull other creatures through the Blind Eternities. She just summons a copy of them based on the connection and memories she has with them, backed up (formerly) by the power of Thassa's bident.
>>
>>44896699
Helps activate metalcraft
>>
>>44896648
tezzeret as esper freed from bolas would be nice. Hes a black man and a redemption arc wouldnt be bad for magic. its a win on publicity and for the fans.
>>
>>44896684
"Once there was a god named Sophia"
>>
>>44896648
The problem is that the current Gatewatch don't exactly know Karn or Tezzeret enough to get their help yet. They might eventually, but as things stand it won't happen any time soon
>>
>>44896759
Doesn't Jace know Tezzeret?
>>
>>44896893
Isn't Tezzeret still under Bolas' control?

I was more thinking of the (relatively) light hearted adventures of explorers actually.
Like Plane Trek, except the Enterprise look like a Kill Six Billion Demons building.
>>
>>44896759
I meant that I never asked what the _Gatewatch_ can do, anon. Just what neowalkers can do.

>>44896893
Yes, but they're likely to attempt to kill each other on sight.
>>
>>44897004
I'm currently attempting a Fate game about neowalkers. So far I have a birdwoman from Rabiah who's five colored and can do power tricks, extreme generalist, and a djinn monk from the Jeskai Way who was a student of Shu Yun and was launched 900 years into the future when his spark ignited and came into resonance with the timeline fuckery of the Fate Reforged temporal shatterpoint.
>>
>>44896648
The neowalkers actually don't know each other very well. Remember that Jace and Gideon JUST met.
>>
>>44896732
did Kiora lose the bident?
>>
>>44897434
Kiora is kind of lost overall. She basically "died off-screen".
>>
>>44897478
Is this one of those situations where she is maybe alive because there's no body or the kind where she's almost certainly dead, like Iona?

If it's the second one that's lame
>>
>>44897513
Well, she rode a big kraken to fight Kozilek, who literally tore that thing to pieces and she and the bident fell into the ocean, right und Kozilek's nose and black'd out. That was the last we heard of her.
>>
People are forgetting, or maybe don't know, that Venser (dumb neowalker specialist on teleportation) was trying to figure out a machine that allows non-walkers to travel on the blind eternities.
But everything changed when Koth of the Hammer attacked... Well, at least Venser died in the end of New Phyrexia's book, he will not be missed.
>>
>>44897586
This is bait
>>
>>44897478
Wizards keeps doing this to characters they either forgot how to write or ran out of ideas for, except instead of killing them outright they leave them in limbo. Melira, Koth, Feather, some of the Praetors, Kiora... especially Elspeth, who's now LITERALLY in limbo.

Shit's worse than GRRM.
>>
>>44897638
If you want i can fully explain why Venser is dumb, but well, i'll do it anyway:
- At the end of Future Sight book Venser was fighting a shadow creature (those cards with Shadow ability) wich lives in the edge of the plane and the blind eternities (yeah Venser was able to teleport to pretty much any kind of space/place it was his special power as well as becoming indestructible is Gideon special power) and to destroy this creature whose name i don't remember, he took two powerstones and teleported away leaving ONLY the energy contained in those powerstones with the creature... Yeah, KABOOM = Evil guy is dead.
- But before this Venser took "an wrong turn in a teleport" and was trapped inside some sort of pocket space and then he was manipulated by Nicol Bolas to free him of his prision... Yeah, everything wrong going on in the last blocks is Venser's fault.
- When Koth found Venser he bullied him into helping by covering Venser's helmet in rust and unless he planeswalks to Mirrodin he would die by asfixiation... Well he was able to teleport magic stones leaving the energy behind but he couldn't:
1 - Teleport without his helmet.
2 - Teleport without the rust.
3 - Teleport just the helmet into Koth's @$$...
Yeah, that's pretty much why the character sucks. But to be fair his death saved every good guy/girl/silver golem in New Phyrexia, a very cliche thing, but ok.

Before the Mending, it was possible to build ships that could cross the Blind Eternities and travel planes. The Weatherlight was a ship built by Urza to help combat the Phyrexians on Dominaria. It got blown up (along with Urza and a bunch of other stuff) to defeat the Phyrexians on Dominaria during the whole Weatherlight saga (this is also how Karn got his spark, which may or may not be Urza's spark, we don't really know).

Phyrexians invaded Dominaria by (basically) putting a fuck-huge planar portal over Dominaria and just letting the flood gates open.

Post-Mending it seems that using said planar portals or building said planar ships is worthless/pointless, as the boundaries between the planes is much stronger than before (and as was said by another anon, it took a shit ton of power to do such a journey in the first place).

Venser was probably the one who knew the most about planar portals and planar ships of the Neowalkers, as he got his spark around the time that the Mending happened. He hadn't died up to the point in the "present" timeline because of drinking time-slowing water, where he aged very slowly, if at all.

When Elspeth and Koth met Venser, he was messing around with Phyrexian oil on Dominaria, and it was mentioned that he had blueprints and ideas about trying to build another planar ship, but didn't follow through on it because of his study of the Blind Eternities after the Mending.

But with Venser now dead (and sparkless), his body taken away by the new Phyrexians on Mirrodin/New Phyrexia, the only people left that know about that stuff are Bolas, Karn, and maybe Tezerret.
>>
>>44897569
Oh I bet she's fine in that case
>>
Jodah and Jhoira have Venser's planeswalking machine too.
>>
>>44897894
dudes pretty 10/10 imo
>>
>>44898012
>He hadn't died up to the point in the "present" timeline because of drinking time-slowing water, where he aged very slowly, if at all.
This is Jodah mate, not Venser. He ends up with Jhoira at the end of Time Spiral trilogy since they both are immortals in a timely sense.
>>
>>44898186
Ok, then how is Venser still in his mid-20's (as depicted on his PWer card), because in the lore Venser is literally the last person to see Karn before he fucked off into the Blind Eternities as he felt the Phyrexian oil begin to corrupt his body, hoping to either purge the oil while inside the void between planes (as he was built to survive such a thing to begin with) or be destroyed and have the oil destroyed with him, so it wouldn't corrupt any other planes he'd traveled to prior to knowing about the oil in his body.

And that was during the Mending, which took place about a century before the "present day" of the Magic timeline.
>>
>>44898174
Maybe i'm too harsh on him because of bad writers being unable to make him use his powers in an interesting fashion... But well, he is a likable character if you like white caped mages. From the trilogy of Time Spiral books i've liked Lord Windgrace a lot, but well, he sort of died too closing one of the time rifts (becoming a huge panther that destroyed it with a bite), IF/WHEN he returns i wonder about the consequences of his essence being infused into Urborg... You know, Yawgy's grave and stuff.
>>
>>44895573
Phyrexians had planar gates that could punch from one plane to another and create a portal through which objects can pass without having to go through the Blind Eternities. We know this because Xantcha needs a special membrane to survive the Blind Eternities but can happily use a Phyrexian portal.

The Phyrexians are 2 millennia more advanced than the Thran were at the height of their technological progress. They can do ungodly shit technologically.
>>
>>44898255
The time between the Mending and the New Phyrexia is not that long. During the closure of Tolaria's time rift Karn saw something that frightened him and he "lost" himself in time while Venser finished the closure of this rift (a really big one created by Barrin's Obliterate) the thing is:
- Maybe Karn saw the future of Mirrodin and traveled to the past in the hope of wipe out the corruption. He failed and got trapped and corrupted. All this happening in the past, so to Venser it was like two years since he saw Karn while it was a century since Karn's was trapped in Mirrodin.
- Maybe i don't recall properly all the events since i got my hands in the books after the end of Vision of the future launch day, 2007 wasn't like yesterday... But i remember that only Jodah and Jhoira were ageless as well as Teferi/Lord Windgrace and Freyalise before the mending.
- Maybe even the writers are mistaken about the passing time of such events, some of them maybe forgot that the Neowalkers aren't ageless unlike the "Primewalkers".
- Maybe he teleported the "oldness" away... =P

Almost every last one of those, other than 'being a planeswalker' or 'being an entity native to the Blind Eternities (aka the eldrazi)' are no longer possible due to the Mending.
Also, nowhere is it said that a planeswalker has a 'small shard of the Aether in their soul'
>>
>>44898163
Too bad Wizards completely forgot, because this is actually an incredibly interesting and CANON piece of post-Mending planeswalking machinery
>>
Neowalkers may not be immortal, however, each plane has a different time flow and therefor one day to one may be 1000 years to another. Time fuckery still happens.

The planar boundries are strong again, but in the mending the old souls gave their prime sparks to seal the wounds brought on by the overlay and all the power released to turn back the phyrexians. The overlay was an effect created through a machine on Rath, that merged Dominara with Rath. There was a sizable invasion force on Rath, and a portal that Phyrexia used to send reinforcements. Urza and those he manipulated put an end to it all, at high cost.

In theory one could make a ship that can walk the Blind Eternities. Weatherlight used ancient trees grown specificly into the hull, from a forest so ancient it was considered an artifact. But you would need a power source like the Weatherlight had. You would also need either the same tech they used or a planeswalker's spark. Venser's machine worked because of his spark. It just made it easier for him.

Your best bet is to find an old portal and reactivate it with a powerful artifact, or bind a Walker to your service.
>>
>>44903530
>or bind a walker to your service
Planeswalkers can't transport other people. Not since the Mending.
Also the Overlay happened because Rath was created in a specific place so that once it grew to the correct size, it would overlap the location in the Blind Eternities where Dominaria was.
>>
>>44894724
>Myojin of Night's Reach
IIRC she couldn't planeswalk naturally, but there was a fracture in the multiverse between Kamigawa and Dominaria that was caused by the Apocalypse Chime in the Homelands. It allowed her to slip between a few select planes and allowed some Kamigawan stuff to bleed over to Bolas's hometown of Madara, but it was fixed in the Mending.
>>
>>44904905
>japanese stuff bleeds over to Madara
I bet Bolas loves Naruto.
