Or, it actually gains additional/alternate properties after oxidizing. Most copper and bronze statues are created with the intention of oxidizing, so I wouldn't exactly say it's a design flaw. A bronze helmet pulled from a tomb is theoretically still perfectly usable.

Sphere of Summon Abyssal Scavenger.
Abyssal scavengers are small, eyeless creatures not much larger than a softball, and are little more than a nuisance on their lonesome. They are characterized by their shiny chitinous shells and almost comically oversized teeth, each of which is more like a rasping file than an actual tooth.

that's just the way that specific crystal grows. Crystals all have a habit, they don't just grow into random shapes. The habit is a manifestation of their lowest energy state on an atomic level. e.g. the lowest energy state for fluorite is an octohedron.

The crystal lattice in a cubic mineral is cubic in shape, so the crystal grows into a cube. Similarly minerals like tourmaline grow into a pillar-like shape with a hexagonal cross-section because that's the preferred shape of their crystal structure.
Of course it only does that if the growth is unrestricted. Usually in nature you get either a lot of very small crystals, or an imperfect shape due to there not beign enough space, the growth on one or more faces being disrupted or multiple crystals growing from the same point of origin and fusing together.
